Leg 24.06 – “Snakes and a Plane”
Teams begin the 6th Leg of the Race in the afternoon at the Coober Pedy Opal Fields Golf Club.
Here, teams must choose a hole and sink or putt a ball into the hole with the fewest number of strokes. The scores will determine a task in the next Leg. After teams get the ball in the hole, they can sign-up for one of three overnight charter vans to take them to their next destination: Alice Springs!
Before leaving the Golf Club, teams will cast their votes at the Must Vote Double U-Turn Board!
The next morning, teams will be dropped off at the Clay Pans in Ilparpa. Initially surprised to see all ten teams here together, they will be informed that this is a CashKarera Leg! However, one team WILL be eliminated at the Pit Stop!
And to begin this Leg, teams will encounter a Roundabout. They will choose a local 4×4 vehicle and drive themselves to either the Double Road Block at Telegraph Station or the Detour at Alice Springs Reptile Centre!
Telegraph Station is the birthplace of Alice Springs and was established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide.
For this Double Road Block, teams will go back in time and relay a message, the location of the next Route Marker upon completion of the Roundabout, to each other using Morse code. The team member who will relay the message must first translate the location (Ayers Rock) to Morse code and then correctly transmit it. Their teammate must then decipher the message by translating the Morse code correctly.
For the Detour, teams must head to Alice Springs Reptile Centre where they must first check-in at the U-Turn Reveal Board!
Then they will choose between Mind or Body.
In Mind, teams must memorize a presentation on local native reptiles and then properly relate it to an audience. What they don’t know is they will be accompanied by one of those native friends, a python!
In Body, teams will help prepare the day’s meals for some of the centre’s residents. Once they have properly completed the meals and served them, they will receive the next clue.
This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg. If three or more teams are U-Turned, the U-Turn or the Yield will be activated on the next Leg.
After completing the Roundabout, teams will head to Alice Springs Airport. Teams will take a charter flight from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock Airport.
But what they don’t know is that they will receive the next clue mid-air! And that clue tells teams they must perform a tandem skydive! After jumping out of the plane, teams must keep their eyes open around Ayers Rock (also known as Uluru) for the flag and cluebox which they must make their way to on foot once they land back on solid ground.
At Uluru, teams will face another Roundabout! In this modified Switchback to a memorable Detour, teams will decide which of Anangu Art or Bush Tucker Bites they will complete first.
For both tasks, teams must rent bicycles to reach all the necessary locations.
In Anangu Art, teams must search the area around Uluru for four art stations. At each of these art stations, teams must recreate one of four pieces of a full aboriginal dot art piece which they will join together at the starting point to present and exchange for their next clue.
In Bush Tucker Bites, teams will search the area for 10 bush tuckers, food native to Australia. Teams must memorize the local names for each bush tucker and bike back to a table at the starting point containing each food item. They must correctly identify each item, without taking notes, to receive their next clue.
After the Detour, teams can drive their brand-new 2024 all-wheel drive Kia Sportages to the Pit Stop near Kata Tjuta also known as The Olgas. Specifically the Kata Tjuta Dune Viewing Area.
The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+ in addition to their banked CashKarera winnings.
The last team to check-in WILL be eliminated! But they will still be able to take home their CashKarera winnings. … OR!!!!! They can forfeit their CashKarera winnings and remain in the Race! However, if they do choose to do so, they must finish the next Leg of the Race as Team #1 or they will be eliminated!
“Director’s” Commentary
So this is a very interesting Leg. It’s basically half a Switchback to TARPHDME’s last visit to Uluru. Like I mentioned last week, I wanted this season’s visit to Australia to center around the Outback. So without in-person scouting, I just had to recycle this, actually, pretty good Leg.
To start off, we have this little task at the golf course which will play into something into the next Leg. It’s an easy spot to have this task.
Also a good spot to place the first U-Turn Vote of the season!
Next, we will need to magically transport teams closer to Alice Springs. And then surprise them at the great location of Clay Pans in Ilparpa that this is a CashKarera Leg! It’s interesting to consider whether or not this will be a Non-Elimination Leg. I originally conceived CashKarera Legs as a way to make Non-Elimination Legs more meaningful while retaining the staggered Pit Starts. So having this CashKarera Leg be an elimination Leg is definitely a big twist. But I decided on doing that because it is a recycled Leg.
I’m not sure about that twist at the end though. Just wanted to add something to the CashKarera Leg just to have it lol It’s an interesting possibility. Something like TARAu2’s Salvage Pass I guess. The chances of a team finishing the next Leg as Team #1 is pretty small. So, just between us, the last place team here would probably be eliminated next Leg anyway. Hehe. I also haven’t thought ahead to what happens if they did survive next Leg. Like, how to deal with the originally scheduled Non-Elimination Leg then? I have no idea lol
So we have another Roundabout. And also, we will still have staggered Pit Start times here. I think having these two Roundabouts will actually help in leveling the field and allowing different teams to have a chance at top placement money.
For this first Roundabout, the two tasks are a Double Road Block and Detour. To counter how recycled this Leg is, this Roundabout is definitely needed. And having a Forced Double U-Turn should really raise the stakes as well.
The Double Road Block is recycled. It should be a challenging task for the teams.
The Detour is a good pair of tasks. I think reminiscent of typical TAR tasks. Memorize and perform vs the familiar preparing food for animals. (Didn’t we already do this in Thailand? lolol) Hopefully the python will provide some funny moments with the teams.
For the second half of the Leg, it will center around Uluru. Just like the original TARPHDME Leg.
The surprise skydive will hopefully be a fun moment. We want to see teams freaking out! Lol Though I don’t know how much of a surprise it can be if they’re being fitted with all the safety equipment before boarding the plane. lol
Originally a Detour in the original Leg, Anangu Art and Bush Tucker Bites will instead be another Roundabout. Again, to counter how recycled this Leg is. Both are great tasks and it really immerses the teams in the wonderful culture and history of this area.
Finally, a Pit Stop with the iconic the Olgas in the background.
So overall, a recycled, but good Leg. Nice tasks that are worthy of being recycled. But okay with a CashKarera Leg and elimination!

The little drawings of the teams at the clay pans cracks me up.
They’ve had a rough five legs so far. lol
People would be so upset with that twist I think. Haha but it is definitely a big surprise. I think it is interesting twist for the CashKarera Legs. I would think teams would definitely give up the money for a chance to continue.
I came up with it at the last minute lol
