Recap: Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, Episode 31 – A Magnificent Challenge

The General3 offer Disrace some taiyaki. But Disrace says they must use their time better. Ittasha keys in a clock to bring about Clock Guruma.

Meanwhile, Sakito heads to Hashiri Curry, a new curry restaurant that’s opened up, to give it a try. But he is confused after his plate is empty after only one bite. He tells Byundi that the one bite was delicious, but he wants his full plate.

Elsewhere, Mira introduces Taiya, Shashiro and Jou to her boss Reika. Her father used to own this curry restaurant and Reika has inherited it after her father passed away. This has been Mira’s favorite since she was a child.

Reika says the new curry restaurant that opened nearby has taken all her customers, especially when hers is not tasty. The guys say that’s not true and they complement her the delicious curry which she makes according to her father’s recipe. Reika feels she has not gotten it right and Mira wonders if something is missing. If things continue like this, the restaurant will go bankrupt. Mira asks the boys for help.

Taiya tells Shashiro and Jou to go check out the new restaurant. Jou drags Shashiro over to Hashiri Curry and they see Sakito and Byundi waiting in the loooong line. Sakito tells them this is some amazing here as the people in line eagerly beg to taste it.

Taiya gives Reika some very expensive spices from around the world and offers to remodel the entire restaurant. But Mira says that’s not the kind of help she asked for. Taiya offers to buy out the other shops, but Mira says absolutely not.

BunBun comes in and says Taiya really doesn’t get it. If curry’s involved, then BunBun is confident in his!

Back at Hashiri Curry, the boys finally get a table and are served their curry. They take one spoonful and their plates are immediately empty. They feel horribly unsatisfied in their meal and crave more.

Turns out the this is Hashiryan work. Disrace, the General3 and Clock Guruma are in the kitchen working on their plan. Disrace has made the curry uber addictive and Clock Guruma is able to speed up time through each customer’s meal. The customer feels unsatisfied and they want more, thus repeating the cycle. Only a few seconds of table time for each customer.

The boys finish their second plates and they beg for more, as do all the customers. This produces plenty of gassholin.

Back at Reika’s restaurant, BunBun whips up a pot of his curry and tells them about how curry was the first thing he ate on Earth after Taiya saved him after the crash. Since then, BunBun has loved and enjoyed making many different types of curry. Especially since it brings a smile to Taiya’s face.

Reika says her father told her the same thing. The time and effort into making the curry is nothing as soon as they see the joy on the people’s faces as they enjoy the delicious food. BunBun says it does take some time to remove the scum on top and to keep the curry from burning.

Mira realizes that perhaps the recipe requires them to boil the curry longer.

Meanwhile, Taiya sees the Hashiryans at the other curry place and quickly tries to get the people in line to leave. Sakito, Byundi, Shashiro and Jou, however, are now in a curry trance. They will not allow Taiya to keep them from their curry.

The other people in line say they will die if they don’t eat this shop’s curry and they surround Taiya.

The General3 and Clock Guruma laugh at Taiya. Clock Guruma tosses his clock’s hands at the people. But Taiya quickly henshins to knock them away. Clock Guruma speeds up time, preventing Taiya from being able to react quickly enough.

On the other side of town, Genba finds and confronts MadRex, demanding to know where Disrace is. MadRex says he’s surprised the Boonbooms had a Burekian on the team, but he tells him where Disrace is. In exchange, Genba must relay this message to BunRed: “Kill me.”

“If you make it out alive,” MadRex adds.

Genba hurries to the back to find Disrace.

Taiya struggles with Clock Guruma’s time manipulation. The guys and the people continue to hold him back. But Mira comes running with some of Reika’s curry.

Mira feeds Sakito, Byundi, Shashiro and Jou with some of the curry and they snap out of their curry stupor.

Sakito and Byundi explode with curry happiness and Shashiro and Jou cry curry tears. Mira invites everyone to come over to Curry Shop Gon’s pop up tent to give the curry a try.

Mira says this curry is delicious because it is filled with love. Taiya says this is very bakuage.

Shashiro and Jou apologize to Taiya who says it’s alright. Sakito apologizes to them and says they’ll have to take care of this because he’s very full from all the curry.

Shashiro, Mira and Jou henshin and they and Taiya quickly finish off Clock Guruma. The Boonbooms hop into Boonboomger Robo 119 and with Mira taking the lead, they finish off Clock Guruma for good.

They head over to Reika’s restaurant, but it’s a full house so the boys have to wait their turn.

Meanwhile, Genba finds Disrace. But he is protected by a force field. Disrace has his way with Genba and knocks him around, forcing him to dehenshin.

Sakito and Byundi arrive to find an unconscious Genba.

Episode Thoughts

A familiar and typical Boonboomger episode. Which of course means it was a great and fun episode! The season manages to take the simplest of plots and deliver a thoroughly enjoyable and fun time. It’s easy to have a smile on your face the entire time you’re watching a Boonboom episode. And that is a great feeling to have.

Lots of fun moments during the episode. Like Taiya humble flaunting his wealth when offering to help Reika’s restaurant. The boys going crazy for curry and then having to apologize to boss Taiya. Lol. Mira being her bright and bubbly self.

But also some nice, quieter moments. Like all of BunBun’s scenes, especially talking about his first plate of curry with Taiya. And then Genba and MadRex’s moment as well.

What a dramatic moment with MadRex telling Genba to tell Taiya to kill him. A very interesting moment especially when connected to what we learned about him and the General3 last week.

But also interesting as it seems to help set up next week. Which is… the ToQger crossover!!!! Yay!!!

I have been looking forward to seeing a potential Boonboomger–ToQger crossover considering the anniversary. But also considering the similar vibes of the two seasons. (Though I also hoped for a ToQger–Kiramager crossover for all the colorful kirakira lol)

I’m a bit sad as it seems we’re not getting all the train children (now college-aged actually! Lolol). Though it’s understandable considering the cast is quite busy these days, especially a few of them getting some pretty major (and well deserved!) projects too. But of course it’s going to be awesome and so fun to see Akira and Shin Nagahama. And Ticket-kun too!

If next week is the climax for Genba’s story, pairing it with the ToQger crossover would be perfect. But I also wouldn’t mind holding off on Genba’s story too if they want to. Either way, I am confident the show will do well by the story.

But anyway, very excited about next week.

Back to this episode though, it was another fun and enjoyable ride. Again, I really like the way they are able to always weave the stories and characters together to make up a complete package. And that certainly bodes well as we head deeper into the season.
