Saturday Sounds, September 21, 2024 – VROMANCE Appreciation + PLUUS, ORβIT, P1Harmony, Yeonjun

Been very behind with new music lately! But this week, I got to enjoy new music from PLUUS, ORBIT, P1Harmony and Yeonjun. And I also want to appreciate the talented, though underrated VROMANCE!

Appreciation: VROMANCE

I want to start off today with some appreciation for the group VROMANCE. They just announced that they were disbanding after eight years. And while it’s very sad to see this talented vocal group wrapping up this part of their careers, it doesn’t take away from their eight years of excellent performances. The four-then-three member group debuted in 2016 and was dubbed the male equivalent of labelmates MAMAMOO. And they immediately proved why deserved that title with their debut title track “She”.

Their strong vocals were always a highlight with every release. And that was certainly something that set them apart from other boy groups in the industry. Most especially today where pure vocal groups are even less common now.

So thank you VROMANCE for eight years of amazing music and performances! Best of luck on your future endeavors!

“Summotion” by PLUUS

I really liked PLUUS’ debut last year. But not so much the tracks they’ve released since. So finally checking out their latest track “Summotion,” I was so pleasantly surprised! It’s the kind of song that reminds me of their great debut. And certainly a song I have no problem listening to over and over. I think their debut really made me expect a steady stream of equally great music from them. But until “Summotion,” that was really the case. Happy to have finally listened to and enjoyed the track. But I also found out the news that he was leaving(?) the group to head to Korea to likely compete on a survival show. Best of luck to him, but sad that he’s leaving just as I’ve officially chosen him as my PLUUS bias. Lol

Anyway, enjoy that clever Color Coded Lyrics video they’ve made for the track until hopefully we are treated with a music video! (Please SBTown!) And also their performance at Waterbomb in Korea:

“Patience” by ORβIT

It is so exciting to have ORBIT back together as a full group. With them debuting during COVID, having all members in the same country was a special event. But now seeing the seven members together, the Korean members completing their military service and releasing this excellent track “Patience”; it’s a great feeling! The group definitely makes a strikingly captivating comeback. The haunting vocals and dramatic melody make for a cinematic experience. Both from their performance and in the music video too. It’s ORBIT like you’ve never seen and it’s a really exciting release from the talented group. So happy to see them back!

“Sad Song” by P1Harmony

I’ll admit, I’ve been hot and cold with P1Harmony’s title tracks. I love the group, but I’ve been drawn more to some of their B-side tracks in recent albums. Their latest “Sad Song” might be one on the warmer side for me. It’s an undoubtedly catchy track with its Latin-infused hip-hop rhythm. The boys deliver a great performance with the fun lyrics making for an energetic experience. Of the B-side tracks this time, I quite like the rock-powered “Last Call” and “Welcome To” as well as the midtempo “All You”.

“GGUM” by Yeonjun

TXT’s Yeonjun releases his first mixtape and “GGUM” is an attention-grabbing song and performance from him. The hip-hop track has an amazing dynamic in its melody, especially the piano break at the chorus. Yeonjun’s overflowing charisma powers the overall performance. And it’s an excellent showcase for who he can be as a solo artist.
