Once again, 13 teams will give it their all (we hope!) on The Amazing Race Philippines: DryedMangoez Edition Season 24! All with the hopes of crossing that Finish Line first to win a prize package still worth more than 10 million pesoses!

“Casting Director’s” Commentary

Thanks to Let who suggested in the comments section that I should do a “Casting Director’s” Commentary for the cast. Hehe.

So for anyone who has followed TARPHDME since I started making opening credits videos and actually having “casts” for the seasons, I usually first have a shortlist of people I actually would want to see on the Race. Or potential pairs who might be “in” at the moment of casting. Then I go on YouTube to look if they have nice opening credits-worthy videos. Lol If not, then I Google random Filipino pairs who actually do have opening credits-worthy videos. Last resort, I settle for scouring Filipino variety shows like Eat Bulaga or Wowowin or Family Feud for the off-chance they’ve guested pairs for a game or something lololol

So anyway, here’s the cast for season 24.

A priority get for this season was Olivia and Chandler McDaniel, sisters and teammates for the Filipinas national football team. As soon as the Women’s World Cup wrapped last year, I knew I wanted to cast any two players for TARPHDME. And the sisters Olivia and Chandler were the perfect choice. Sucks that there aren’t too many good videos of them together though.

Shamcey Supsup and Lloyd Lee have been on my casting reserves list for a long time now since I think it is basically a given that there will always be one beauty queen on every season of TARPHDME (even TARPH, the real one lol). So they would be a good team to watch.

Siblings are always an easy casting choice. Paolo and Bubbles Paraiso would be a great, athletic team. Maybe one of those alpha siblings teams that could go all the way.

Twins are always a TAR staple of course. And if we’re working under the guise of being a TV5 production, then Andres and Atasha Muhlach would be a good team to have. Possible to have either of them Race with either of their parents too. But I think having the twins Race on their own is a more interesting story and dynamic.

Having a P-pop team on every season is probably a good a move as well to bring in the fans. But I wasn’t sure of which pair to cast this time around. Ben&Ben are an OPM band more than a P-pop group. But I don’t remember where I saw them and decided to put them on the shortlist. So they’d be a good team here as well.

Next typical TAR team type is the parent/child. Bernadette Allyson and Icee Ejercito have been on my list ever since they guested on Eat Bulaga for a game lol. They were almost cast last season, but I wasn’t happy with the video for them. Now this year, I needed a team, so I had to settle for the less-than-great clip lolol But a mother/daughter team is good.

The other parent/child team is Nina Ricci Alagao and son Calvin Flores. I first saw them on Family Feud and then on Eat Bulaga with father Michael Flores. But I think a mother/son duo is the perfect choice for them.

Speaking of, James Blanco appeared on Eat Bulaga with his sons and then they did a Uniqlo video for their social media on Father’s Day. So a father/son team would be good too. But I instead went with his sons Inigo and Baste for the young brothers dynamic.

Next up is friends. First, I’ve had Betong and Maey on the list for a while. And if there were HD videos of the celebrity duos season of Survivor Philippines, then you’d probably have seen plenty of alums from that season on TARPHDME by now lololol But Betong as the winner and Maey would be a great team for here. Previous Castaways now on TAR? Very interesting. And they can be a fun team too.

Valeen Montenegro and Chariz Solomon are fun and hilarious. And they also have active lifestyles. So I think they could do very well on the Race.

Completing the Kapuso alliance, I guess, lololol is Pekto and John. I’ve also had them on the list for a while. But they guested on Fast Talk a while ago and thought, sure, I can use that video lolol

Finally, the two other couples. First, Klea and Katrice would be a fierce team to have on the Race. And of course, as an LGBTQ couple, they are a great representation on the Race.

And Scottie Thompson and wife Jinky also helps to fill another athlete/basketball player slot on the season. Which I think a TV5 season would always have every year lol

Overall, a solid cast. Maybe not my favorite TARPHDME cast on paper. But that’s alright.
