Episode Thoughts

This is the kind of episode that can be successfully satisfying when they show has been able to effectively lay all the necessary groundwork. And it’s not even in a way that you are specifically leading up to a certain moment or revelation or big twist. But the reveal of Genba’t past and identity and the fallout works because of both the character and plot development up to this point.

For the characters, Genba’s feelings for the team and the team’s feelings for Genba are absolutely believable and make for legit emotional moments like that final scene in this episode. We have seen how the Boonbooms have grown closer over the last 26 episodes. Their bond as a team that works together and as friends who sincerely enjoy each other make the “breakup” scene sincere and impactful.

I think about other seasons of both Sentai and Kamen Rider that try to fake these moments. Where we’re supposed to believe the heroes have some deep emotional bond with each other. But it all comes out forced and hollow.

Not here on Boonboomger. And this is also partly made possible by the way the season can balance both it’s lighter and heavier sides. The season has been very fun and lighthearted. But it has delivered some pretty heavy and dramatic moments as well. Those lighter moments help to build that foundation to allow the heavier moments to stand strong and tall.

And this episode revealing Genba’s truth is really such a great example. Another example too of everything coming together for a satisfying result.

I thankfully was not spoiled at all about Genba so this episode had its maximum impact for me. It’s a very big story. Genba’s entire planet wiped out by the Hashiryan. And his father imprisoned. (Might we get the Boonbooms on a mission to save him?) The story reminds me of Kyuranger (a season that is one of my favorites) in a very positive way. And it very much raises the stakes for both Genba and the Boonbooms too.

As surprising as it was for me, it definitely fits in with the season’s overarching plot. First, in building up the Hashiryan’s evil resume. Second, in expanding the season’s “universe”. And finally, adding on to the characters’ own development as well.

For this episode, it was getting another glimpse of pre-show Taiya. Him being a good guy who naturally likes and wants to help people. We’ve seen it with the other Boonbooms. But how wonderful to see that a small gesture like Taiya offering Genba a lollipop can mean so much.

Little moments like this season have really gone a long way in making the Boonbooms and the season itself such an engaging and endearing experience. And again, makes scenes like at the end, especially as Genba walks away from his new friends, feel so emotional. Very very close to a MaGMCM for me!

My love for this season just continues to grow week after week!

Elsewhere, we also get a bit of world building with the Hashiryans as we get another new dynamic between the Commander and our General3. But we also get the shocking moments with Mr. Naito and Director Tokoyari. Having a nefarious figure not directly connected to the antagonists at the forefront (at least not yet) really adds another dynamic as well. And again, when there’s major threats and obstacles like this, it helps boost our heroes as well.

Some really great action today with the Boonbooms fighting the Nejiretta and Sakito’s battle with Disrace. When you get exciting action with legitimately good drama in one episode? What a treat!

Overall, I of course love this episode of Boonboombger. Very exciting episodes to come!

P.S. I also just realized Genba’s family name is DELIVERY. lol
