Recap: The Amazing Race Canada 10, Episode 8 – Manure Time Baby!

So the real 7th Leg of the Race. Or is it the real 6th? Or are they calling it the 8th? Well, whatever number Leg this is, teams are still searching the State Saputo for matching colored tokens. Colin & Matt black and orange CF Montreal tokens and then find the orange Chevrolet bowtie token. But they can’t take it until they give the black CF Montreal token to Kevin & Gurleen who have a yellow CF Montreal token.

Taylor & Katie now have blue and black bowtie tokens while Michael & Tyson have green and white tokens. When Michael & Tyson find another green token, they yell out to anyone who would like to come get their white token. But Michael & Amari come over and don’t take the white token. Instead, Michael suggests he takes the green token and then they help everyone else find theirs. At the end, they can all switch together.

Michael & Tyson look at each like “WTF is happening?” Lauren & Nicole come over and say they’ll take the white token. But Michael tries to convince them not to take the white token so Michael & Tyson can’t get the green token. Lauren & Nicole understand, but they take the white one anyway.

Meanwhile, Amari secretly grabs the green token that Michael & Tyson needed while they weren’t looking and were unable to since they had two. Now the father and son have yellow and green tokens.

Three hours later, Lauren & Nicole are the only ones with only one token. Michael & Amari have the two tokens that Kevin & Gurleen and Katie & Taylor need. Katie & Taylor convince the father and son to hand over the tokens so long as they can keep Michael & Amari safe from elimination. (How? Who knows. Lol)

That means Colin & Matt, Kevin & Gurleen and Taylor & Katie are on the first train to Cornwall, Ontraio.

Michael & Amari continue laughing about the whole situation saying they’re just having fun while other people are treating this like “life and death”.

After all this, Jon says the trains will be arriving FIFTEEN MINUTES APART.

Upon arrival in Cornwall, teams find the clue inside 2024 Chevy Traverse telling them to go to Thom Racine’s house and search his basement of sports memorabilia to find a puck with their photos on it within 30 seconds. They will then play street hockey with the neighborhood kids and get the next clue when they score a goal.

Taylor & Katie find their puck first and score a goal. The next clue tells teams they will encounter a Switchback to season 2’s manure digging task. Today, teams will head to Split Rock Farms in Apple Hill to dig through alpaca poo for their next clue.

The Blind Double Pass board will also be waiting there.

Kevin & Gurleen are next to find the puck on their 2nd attempt. Colin & Matt find it on their first attempt and tell Michael & Amari exactly where their puck is. Michael & Tyson fail two attempts before Lauren & Nicole get their puck on their first.

At the farm, Taylor & Katie find the clue and then go to the Pass Board to Pass Kevin & Gurleen and maintain their lead. Kevin & Gurleen, right behind them, decide to Pass Michael & Tyson.

After the crap, teams will find the Detour: Spend Some Coins or Gird Your Loins. In Spend Some Coins, teams must figure out how to convert Old English currency to know how much to purchase haggis. They will look for currency experts in the crowd to explain the conversion rates and then find The Banker to exchange the moneys. In Gird Your Loins, teams must learn how to tuck and fold a 15 foot piece of cloth into a traditional Scottish tartan kilt. They must then search the fairgrounds for someone wearing the same tartan to get the next clue.

Colin & Matt find the clue next and Kevin & Gurleen yell at them to hurry up so they can leave. They decide to team up to complete the coins Detour. Lauren & Nicole are next to find the poop bottle.

Michael & Tyson arrive last at the poop, but find it before Michael & Amari. Of course, they still have to wait for the father and son to finish before leaving after having been Passed.

Katie & Taylor arrive at the fairgrounds, learn how to fold and then go for an attempt. One of them gets the thumbs down so they do it all over. Lauren & Nicole arrive 2nd and choose the coins. They get started talking to experts as Colin & Matt and Kevin & Gurleen work together and go directly to The Banker. For some reason, Lauren & Nicole try to sit with the two teams to work together. But Gurleen says they do not want to share.

Michael & Amari also choose folding while Michael & Tyson choose the coins.

Taylor & Katie get their kilts approved and can now go search for their matching triplet. But Michael & Amari struggle with theirs so they switch to the coins.

Taylor & Katie bring their triplet over to Donna and they get the next clue telling them to head to The Lost Villages Museum. In 1958, nine different communities were moved inland to allow for the creation for the St. Lawrence Seaway System. Teams will kayak out over the lost villages to find their next clue.

Colin & Matt are finally able to purchase their haggis and can also move on. But Kevin & Gurleen are incorrect. That allows Lauren & Nicole to move ahead of them. Michael & Tyson initially overpay, but then realize their mistake and now are able buy haggis. That leaves Michael & Amari in last at the fair.

Meanwhile, Taylor & Katie grab their clue from the water and arrive back on shore just as Kevin & Gurleen arrive. The BFFs are now able to head to the Pit Stop on the Long Sault Parkway. They officially check-in as Team #1 and win a trip to Thailand along with $10,000.

Kevin & Gurleen and Lauren & Nicole take 2nd and 3rd. After sinking their kayak and needing to start over, Colin & Matt finish as Team #4.

Michael & Tyson also sink, but they already retrieved the clue. Because they are rescued, they have a five minute delay before they can move on. That doesn’t matter though and they are able to get to the Pit Stop to officially finish as Team #5.

That means Michael & Amari are last and eliminated.

Episode Thoughts

The token drama was so strange. Kudos to TARC for figuring out a way to prevent teams from just collecting as many tokens as they can. Honestly though, if I had two other teams’ spot in the balance, I wouldn’t give them the tokens. At that point, everyone is annoying. I’m tired. F- everyone! Lol We can all settle for the last train together.

BUT! The huge guffaw I let out when after all that, Jon says the trains will be arriving FIFTEEN MINUTES APART lol. ALL THAT and only a 15 minute difference? The Amazing Race Canada 10 really has perfected the art of rendering tasks and entire Legs completely useless. It’s hilarious and insane. Which, I appreciate hilarity and insanity. But only if it’s enjoyable. With TARC, it’s debatable lol

So basically two needle in a haystack tasks back to back. Or actually three if you include the tokens too.

The Switchbacks for the 10th season are cute I guess. But I get putting the Pass after the poop to try and milk as much potential drama as possible. The Pass still sucks alpaca poop though. Really just nonsense. Just plop a Yield down and leave it at that.

The Detour was alright. Another pair of tasks that would be better staged in the actual country of origin rather than in Canada. But what can you do. Like in TARUS, I still don’t get how the old currency conversion task can be so tricky. I almost feel like this was easier because they actually had someone to talk to and perhaps ask questions to.

The kilt side of the task was good. But it’s funny how both sides of the Detour needed to have that “search the crowd” element because without it, both tasks would be kind of dry and quick otherwise.

The kayaking was an alright extra task. Just to fill out the Leg I guess.

But I think the best part of the Leg was the Pit Stop. What a stunning location! Really beautiful. And of course having the Mat in the middle of the road really makes it a very nice location.

Overall, kind of a meh episode. The Leg itself felt very flat.

But the preview! UY PHILIPPINES! *clap*clap* PHILIPPINES! WOOO!

Team Thoughts

Of the teams, I guess I’m rooting for Lauren & Nicole the most to win. Followed by Michael & Tyson. Both really have been the strongest teams. So I wouldn’t mind seeing either of them winning.

Taylor & Katie have done well these last two or three Legs, I don’t know how to count them lol But they are definitely not a consistent team so they could easily be eliminated next or win it all. I have no idea!

Meh to Colin & Matt and definitely to Kevin & Gurleen. And Michael & Amari were kind of cringey this Leg. They were doing too much. And the remark about other teams treating this like “life and death”. I prefer teams being competitive over teams not taking it seriously. You can enjoy the Race and have fun while also being competitive. So I was actually glad they were eliminated this week.
