It’s a Filipino Friday Saturday with fresh music from BGYO and 1st.One!

“Trash” by BGYO

I am very pleasantly surprised by BGYO’s latest track “Trash” because it’s definitely not trash at all. (lol Sorry, not funny.) But really, I very much enjoy this funky little track. And little it is because it’s only a little over two minutes long with not very much in terms of lyrics either. But even so, the vibes with this track are strong enough to carry the whole experience. And as a JL bias, him taking center stage, literally, with the chorus definitely adds a lot more bonus points for me. A fun song and performance.

“Paalam Na” by 1st.One

1st.One’s newest track “Paalam Na” is really one of the reasons I like to wait for a title track’s music video before I listen to the song. Because after watching the lyric video for it upon release, I like it. But I don’t love it yet, I think. It’s an interesting track. And also probably highlights how tricky it can be to work with Tagalog lyrics in pop-dance melodies. But I also know that once they do release the music video, I will probably grow to love it. I guess there’s something about seeing the visual performance of a track to add to the experience.

Nonetheless, it really is a good track and I like the direction 1st.One is moving toward with their latest tracks like the excellent “Dito” and their cover of “Your Love”. The chorus is very catchy and their short TikToks dancing to the song are very promising.

ETA 08/25/24 – Only 2 days since I first listened to it and I actually love it now! The more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. I’m sure it’ll find a spot on my year-end favorites list now. Especially when that MV drops. (Hello FirstOne Entertainment! hehehe)
