Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 22 – Game Plan

Voltes V Legacy Episode 22 Recap

Zardoz contacts his spy to remind them they must get inside the base as soon as possible.

Dr. Smith assures his peoples that the Voltes team has a lot of heart. And that is what will get them the win against the Beastfighter who appears to be evenly matched with them, spec-wise.

Gardo says something to the Voltes team, but they don’t understand his language. Mark whips out his Whip, but Gardo easily counters. Steve is shocked that someone could be so confident in themselves. (Look in the mirror!) Big Bert reiterates that he can see the Beastfighter is skilled in the samurai way. The Voltes team are amazed the Boazanians’ ability to truly study their opponents.

Big Bert tells his Kuya Steve that he feels they will lose to the Beastfighter even if they use their Laser Sword.

Just then, Gardo does something that causes the team to feel disoriented. Big Bert urges the others that they must retreat for now as he has a plan he would like to discuss. Steve is reluctant to do so, but eventually approves of the move.

As the Voltes team flies away, Gardo decides to chase after them through the sky. They have to fire back in order to give them a chance to escape. Mark leads Little Jon and Jamie in attacking Gardo, first allowing Steve and Bert to escape and they follow after.

Zardoz orders Gardo to let Voltes V be and to focus on attacking the camp instead. The generals don’t agree with the order, but Zardoz reminds them that he is the commander of this mission.

Voltes V Legacy Episode 22 Recap

Over in the forest, Big Bert explains that the Beastfighter uses illusion to gain the advantage against them. Steve thinks they just have to use their Laser Sword. But Bert insists their only chance will be to charge right at it once it whips out its sword. When the Beastfighter does that, it will expose its weakness and they can use the Butterfly Return technique. Jamie remembers the move and Big Bert explains that it is a secret of the samurai. And they are facing a samurai in the Beastfighter.

Steve doesn’t think it’s a good idea. But Big Bert says only Steve can do it since he controls Voltes V as long as he undergoes immediate training. Jamie encourages Steve and calls Dr. Smith who tells them about the incoming attack on CBF.

Voltes V Legacy Episode 22 Recap

Steve sends Mark, Jamie and Little Jon back to help while he and Big Bert train. Jamie wishes Steve “Good luck,” but Mark says “No, good luck sa atin lahat!” Steve asks WTF is Mark’s problem now and finally agrees to train with Big Bert in order to show him up.

Later, Zandra and Zuhl are jealous of the spy Zardoz repeatedly talks to. And at CBF, PJ bumps into Eva and he sees that she has blueprints of the base for some reason. He asks why, but she hits him with the folders and leaves.

Mark tells Dr. Smith that Steve and Big Bert have stayed behind to train and assures him that they can deal with the Beastfighter in the meantime. Little Jon and Jamie are unsure if they can, but Mark says they have to do all they can until their teammates return.

Back in the forest, Steve collapses after only a few minutes of training with his little brother.

Episode Thoughts

One thing I notice, and I can’t help but compare to toku episodes again, is that Voltes V could’ve done something a bit differently. That is have each Beastfighter “arc” basically be a focus episode for each Voltes team member. Like, for example, in the slow episodes, lay out an issue or conflict. Take Mark’s mommy issues. Spend a few episodes focusing on that then have him take the lead in the Beastfighter of the Week battle. Something like that.

In this case, flesh out the entire Big Bert/”Judy is a spy” angle (Yeah, we don’t believe Eva is a spy lol) and then lead into these scenes where Big Bert is the one who helps deliver the win to the team. You know?

Oh well. This episode was definitely much better than the last two at least. And it was because it was mostly action-focused. Seeing the battles and the chaos that ensues will always be fun to watch. And I must say, it was very satisfying to see Steve get hit on the head multiple times. lololol

Voltes V: Legacy Episode 22 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
