Kogane and Boone try to stop Gira from heading into trouble. But Yanma appears and asks him to come with. As they walk to the castle, Yanma says the Bugnarak are after Gira’s power to control the ShuGods. Yanma asks how Gira is able to do that and he answers that he’s simply asking his friends for help.

Yanma says that is impossible. But anyway, if they hand Gira over to the Bugnarak, they will lose control of KingOhger and the three spirits. Yanma asks which side is he on. Gira says he would never side with Bugnarak. But when Yanma suggests Gira would choose his brother, Gira says this has nothing to do with his past.

Yanma reminds Gira that he’ll come for him if he steps out of line.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 6 Recap

The five kings are now assembled at the castle. Gira charges straight toward Racules, but Kaguragi and Rita block Gira’s sword. Gira takes offense to being called a prince and does not want to be lumped in with the likes of Racules.

King Racules says Gira was kidnapped at a very young age. They searched all over, but were unable to find any trace of him in Chikyuu. So, to avoid public humiliation, the family hid his entire existence. But Racules wants to celebrate Gira’s miraculous return and lends his hand out for them to work together against the Bugnarak and to ensure the prosperity of Shugoddam.

Gira says he will never work with Racules when he sacrifices children. Gira breaks through once again, but Douga grabs and pins him to the ground. Racules says it’s quite disappointing to hear, but they will move on to the alliance meeting after having Gira chained up.

Himeno says she’s slightly concerned about the cocoons, but Kaguragi says they’ll just have to take care of them when the time comes. Rita mentions that the Bugnarak also stole a treasure from Gokkan and believes that may put the world in danger. Racules says, based on his study of the legends, that treasure must be God Scorpion’s ShuGod soul.

Rita suggests the Bugnarak want Gira in order to be able to control the spirits. However, handing over Gira would put the kingdoms in danger while allowing the cocoons to fester would result in a devastating loss. It’s a lose-lose situation.

Rita shows them a copy of the Five Kingdom Alliance and says the appropriate response would be teamwork. Himeno says KingOhger would be able to handle that aspect. But Racules asks everyone to instead follow his lead.

Racules whips his sword out and slashes at the Alliance document, thus rescinding the agreement. He declares Shugoddam will have sole control of KingOhger. If they want their countries protected, they must swear loyalty to him. In other words, give up their kingdoms. And in turn, he will share the power of the spirits.

Buy Yanma points out that Racules does not have the power to move KingOhger.

Just then, embiggened Sanagims spring out of the underground tunnels and begin to rampage through Shugoddam. But the Ohgers can’t seem to activate their Caliburs. Racules wonders if the ShuGods object. Yanma asks what Racules has done.

Suddenly, Gira calls for Kuwagon who flies in, grabs Gira and the OhgerCalibur and flies out of the castle. Gira proclaims he will not let them lay a finger on his god friends.

Himeno wonders to herself if Gira truly can communicate with the gods.

Outside, Gira asks Kuwagon why they could not call on KingOhger. Kuwagon says something about needing God Scorpion, Sasorin. Then they’ll be okay.

Gira tries to summon KingOhger, but it does not come. He instead asks Kuwagon to accompany him and try to do what they can against the threat.

Himeno finds Kamejim and demands he hand over the soul stone. Kamejim trips her up, but Kaguragi is able to swoop in and swipe the soul himself. Kamejim laughs one more time before leaving.

The Shugoddamians gather in the town square, fearing their lives. But they are relieved when King Racules comes walking through. He tells them that he will protect his dear peoples and defeat the threat with the power of the spirits.

Gira notices that it is not Kuwagon with this formation. And suddenly, Sasorin stabs KingOhger Zero in the chest, causing it to break apart. The Shugoddamians cannot believe Gira is actually a traitor.

But Racules, alone in front of his castle, says it is time. He activates his Calibur.

Episode Thoughts

Now this is the kind of episode that works only if you had the five episodes we got in the last five weeks. Our five kings were introduced very well. And with that out of the way, the show was able to jump right into the drama. Some political intrigue. Some soapy melodrama. And the requisite action of course.

I’ll get my one nitpick out of the way first. After this week’s Geats, I guess I also was hoping for Gira to maybe wallow in self-pity a little bit more like Neon did next door. Have him process the fact that he’s actually a Hastie prince and all the questions that come along with how he got to where he is today.

But actually, Gira’s reaction is much more in line with his hot-blooded character. He will charge forward in a way that might be reckless for others, but conveniently heroic for our red hero. That’s my impression of him. But then Gira’s friends (which honestly, kind of annoyed me lol) specifically said “This isn’t like you!” Or them rolling their eyes at him like “There goes crazy Gira again.” So I assume before the invasion, Gira was just a nice oniichan with a vivid imagination and not this heroic guy that would actually jump into battle? I dunno.

But from what we’ve seen of Gira so far, he’s more of the type to rush in without a second thought which more often than not, might cause more trouble than help. That’s what I initially thought Gira’s friends’ concerns were. And living in Shugoddam, perhaps that’s how they’ve been living. Essentially keeping your head down and not potentially getting on the castle’s bad side. Which again makes sense if we are to place the five kingdoms into a real world application so to speak.

Anyway, the meeting of the Alliance was great drama. It really did well to illustrate the differences between the five kings (as well as Gira, of course). And also to touch upon the difficult decisions in conflicts, especially war. Sometimes there is no perfect option. Sometimes each country will push what benefits them without regard for others. Or even outright take advantage of conflict for their own benefit.

We already know the alliance and diplomatic relationships between the five leaders was tenuous, at best. So the tension in that meeting, with all the different personalities and ideals silently clashing was really fun to watch.

I quite enjoy the overdramatic theatrics, especially from the Hastie bros and Gira particularly. It gives the show that Shakespearean feel and kind of eases you into the idea that these people all have their own goals and ambitions and philosophies. And I hope they really milk all the drama they can from the Hastie Bros. Even all season, if they can.

The episode also did a great job leading into whatever is coming next with Racules. So the pacing for these six episodes has turned out quite nicely.

I don’t know if they are doing better or I’m just getting used to it, but the visuals look and feel much better this episode. Though I loved the Sanagim battle the most because it was actually filmed on location of course. But the other scenes looked more natural than they have been in the first five episodes. Maybe the show itself is getting used to working with these virtual worlds too. hehe

Overall, I actually think this might be my favorite episode so far. I think the progression of the story has really been well done. And this episode worked because of the way the first five episodes played out. It will be great if they can keep up this momentum.
