Great comebacks and strong debuts. New music from Moon Kim, TAN, Kim Woo Seok and Calista.
“Lonely Stars” by Moon Kim
Moon Kim has been busy writing great songs for other artists since last performing as a member of Royal Pirates. But it is awesome to see him releasing one of his songs for himself. “Lonely Stars” is a wonderfully melancholic track about longing for a distant significant other. Moon’s silky smooth vocals glide across the atmospheric melody. #NightDrive playlist worthy? Absolutely.
“DU DU DU” by TAN
TAN certainly has some familiar faces for longtime K-pop fans. But the Wild Idol winning group herald their arrival with the retro R&B vibe of their debut “DU DU DU.” A hint of synth-infused bass provides the smooth foundation for the sensual rhythm and attractive vocals of the group. Definitely a great and charismatic debut.
Fan-dedicated song “My Girl” is a bright treat on the album. And the intro track “Fix You Part1.” is a likeable and intriguing tease of things to come from them.
“Switch” by Kim Woo Seok
Fresh off his great run on the recently concluded Bulgasal, UP10TION’s Kim Woo Seok is back with his third solo release 3rd Desire [Reve]. “Sugar” was one of my favorite tracks of last year. But title track “Switch” combines the bright sweetness of that track and the sexiness of his solo debut “Red Moon.” The pop dance track takes the best of both worlds for an appealing total package of a performance.
The rest of the album is solid. But my favorite tracks are definitely the groovy opener “Ghostin'” and the dreamy “Shame.”
“Race Car” by CALISTA
New P-pop girl group CALISTA make their debut with their first track “Race Car.” The song was released last month, but first unveiled the MV for it last week. The group effortlessly makes an immediate impact. Power and charisma overflow in their total performance. From dance breaks and vocals to style and presence, the group certainly has it all. And they are able to showcase that with this track. The dreamy pre-chorus is my favorite part of the track as it leads into the powerful and dynamic refrain.
