Episode Thoughts

So, full disclosure. I wasn’t even going to write about this episode. I actually wasn’t even sure I’d actually watch it, to be honest. Knowing how modern Power Rangers Christmas and Halloween episodes go. But since I needed something to post today to keep my streak alive (lol), I went ahead and watched and recapped this thing.

And surprisingly, it was not that bad. In fact, it might even be the best Christmas episode of the post-Disney Era. (Yes, I’m lumping Saban Brands and Hasbro into the same Era to match my apathy toward the franchise during this same time. Lol)

Obviously, it was going to be some sort of clip show. But I think the majority of the episode (at least half) was actually original story. Like, an actual plot and narrative.

Sure, there were some VERY hammy scenes throughout the episode. A little more than usual for Power Rangers. But the overall plot was actually quite sound. And maybe even above average for Power Rangers.

Mucus and Slyther had a solid plan and the Rangers needed to foil it. Basic set-up, but with pretty good execution and with a nice Christmas touch.

I’ve said all season how much I love Solon and think she’s such a great character. So seeing Javi appreciate her and wanting to give her a worthy present was very nice. She more than deserves it. At first, I thought he’d teach her how to play instruments or give her singing lessons or something. But giving her his family songbook was a nice, personal touch.

You gotta take these simple, but meaningful moments on Power Rangers whenever you can get them! Lol

The way they weaved the clips in was also fresh and creative. None of this “we need to retrace our steps!’ stuff that forces Rangers to go on Netflix to watch old episodes.

Anyway, this was actually a pretty nice episode. An actual plot that is executed well and still being a feel-good Christmas outing.

And apparently with this episode, it is goodbye basic cable forever for Power Rangers! See you later I guess. lol
