Leg 21.11 – “I can’t deal with this sheep anymore!”
The Penultimate Leg is here! One step closer to the Finish Line. And this Penultimate Leg will take place in Argentina! Teams must fly to Buenos Aires via one of two flights. Via Miami arriving at 3:45pm or via Dallas arriving at 4:30pm.
Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, teams must head to Floralis Generica in Plaza de las Naciones Unidas. Here, they will find a Road Block! Who’s blooming today? As this is the 12th Road Block of the Race, the team member with only five Road locks MUST perform this one.
For this Road Block, teams must build a replica of the Floralis Generica sculpture using six petals representing six currencies of countries they’ve visited with the highest Philippine peso exchange rates (as of filming in February 2020):

The larger the petal, the higher the rate. Once their flower is correct, it will open up and bloom on its own revealing their next clue.
Teams will also have an incentive! The team that completes the Road Block with the fastest time will receive a PHP100,000 bonus!
After the Road Block, teams must secure flights out of Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery to Rio Gallegos Airport. All teams will end up on an Aerolineas Argentinas flight departing tomorrow morning at 9:35am and arriving at 12:50pm.
Upon arrival, teams must choose a 2020 Kia Seltos and drive themselves to Estancia El Condor in Santa Cruz. Here, teams will choose and care for a horse friend before they accompany them to the next clue.
That clue directs teams to help prepare for the annual auction of sheep.
With over 7000 sheep, teams will need to usher in the correct number of sheep into various pens according to requirements they will randomly choose. Also! Teams will earn a PHP5000 bonus for each sheep they can correctly corral in their first and last minutes.
When complete, teams will learn that will be staying at this Estancia overnight in order to catch a 4am charter bus to El Calafate.
Upon arrival the next morning, teams must search the town center on foot for a flagged Kia Sportage and drive themselves to Glaciarium.
Here, teams will pick up ice trekking supplies and drive one hour to Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park.
Teams will trek to atop Perito Moreno Glacier where they will find another Road Block! As this is the 13th Road Block, the Road Block count has been reset.
For this Road Block, teams must recall their placements on each Leg of the Race so far. Using different-sized ice blocks, teams must stack ice blocks for each of the teams that Raced during each Leg and then correctly place their team ice block in the correct position in that stack. Once correct, teams must smash an ice block containing their next clue.
That clue tells teams to descend toward waiting kayaks and paddle back to shore to make their way on foot to the Pit Stop:

The last team to check-in here……….. WILL NOT be eliminated!!! This is a shocking Non-Elimination Leg and FOUR teams will be Racing to the Finish Line! WoWOWOowo!
But the last place team will still need to choose a Non-Elimination Penalty envelope:
As there is no U-Turn on this Final Leg, teams will only have four envelopes to choose from.

“Director’s” Commentary
So! To address that shocking ending first. This is only a Non-Elimination Leg because this Penultimate Leg is a logistical nightmare and also barebones as well. I really wanted some kind of Patagonia Leg for the Penultimate Leg. But in crafting this Leg, I found that it was very difficult to really plan for one that makes sense as a Penultimate Leg. At least, with only Google scouting as a resource of course.
So, I don’t want a Non-Elimination Leg here. But there’s no other choice. Having an elimination after this Leg, as is, would be really horrible.
First up is another task to fill the time before a morning flight. To make it relevant and with consequence, we have the P100,000 bonus. But I actually like the task. It’s an assembly task, but also a bit of thinking and memory task as well. Perhaps we can have several different petals of many different currencies and teams will need to find which ones they need.
Or even have teams calculate the exchange rates themselves. Give teams a specific amount of local currency and figure out the exchange rate on their own. Would be very interesting. And even be a good Final Leg task as well.
Dealing with sheep is also a great task. And I wanted to include it here. But it’s also a necessary logistics Route Marker to have teams stay overnight again. This will be a three-day Leg! What?! But to again make the task relevant and have some kind of benefit or consequence, we add more prize money.
The self-driving may be another challenge on this barebones Leg. But other than the ice trekking, there will basically be three different tasks spread out over three days. Definitely a horribly designed Leg. But oh well.
The second Road Block can be very fun. It’ll be a physically demanding task. Stacking huge ice blocks will definitely take a lot out of the teams. And instead of just stacking only what placements teams had, which would give high placing teams an advantage, we need to have teams stack ice blocks for ALL teams each Leg and then place their team ice block in the proper spot.
Should be a fun and interesting and different task. And with teams thinking this is the final elimination, it will up the drama as well.
Overall, a poorly designed Leg, but pretty to watch at least! hehe
