Teams were in full competition mode believing there were no more Non-Elimination Legs left in the Race. To secure their spots moving forward, the teams felt it would be every team for themselves from now on.
At the Monument of Discoveries, Janice & Inah moved into the lead which allowed them to get the best seats on the flight to the Azores. That advantage helped them avoid being Yielded as they had been rumored to be a target by other teams.
Self-driving would be a big factor as teams found it difficult to navigate the island. Marco & Michele and Janice & Inah would move into the lead at the first Road Block which would then carry over to the Intersection.
Needing to burn their Self Yield and also as payback for being Yielded earlier, Benjie & Kobe decide to Yield themselves at the Intersection. That forced their partner team Troy & KC to also wait for the Yield to finish before they could complete the task. That pushed both teams to the bottom of the pack.
However, both Troy & KC and Benjie & Kobe are able to make up a lot of time at the cozido delivery task when they choose restaurants closer to Furnas Lake. Jervi & Luke and Gee & Archie, meanwhile, unknowingly choose the furthest restaurants pushing them to the back.
The deciding factor in the Leg, however, would be the second Road Block. The azulejo puzzle, well, puzzled the teams. As Troy & KC zoom into first place all the way to the Pit Stop, Marco, Benjie and Gee all fail to use the tiles they had retrieved in the pouch from earlier in the Leg. That causes them all to fall further behind.
Benjie and Kobe debate using the Interchange when Benjie is stumped by the puzzle. But he sees Marco open his tiles pouch, giving him the clue he needs to finish the task.
Though Benjie & Kobe leave Lagoa Do Fogo in 5th place, they are given the wrong directions by a confused local. That allows Gee & Archie to arrive at the Mat just two minutes before Benjie & Kobe who end up last and eliminated. Despite being able to make up the time lost from TWO Yields this Leg.
