The final seven teams continue the Race by flying to Hobart, Tasmania. Upon arrival, teams must drive themselves to Wrest Point Hotel. Here, teams will sloppily put on “70s attire” and build a house of cards that is five stories tall.

While Holly & Dolor decide to choose a table in the middle of the room so they can copy other teams, Chris & Aleisha decide to go to the farthest table so no one can copy them if they’re doing well.

Skye-Blue & Jake think they’ve finished their house of cards, but they forget a card and when they place it, it collapses.

Chris & Aleisha end up being the first successful team and they open the next clue telling them to make their way to the roof of the casino. From there, they will abseil down the side of the building while cleaning three floors of windows on their way down.

Skye-Blue & Jake are right behind them. And when Aleisha speeds past a level of windows, it allows the siblings to pass them. Chris tries to reach all the way over to her side to avoid them having to go all the way down and possibly go to the back of the line.

The siblings open the next clue revealing a Fast Forward. To win this one, teams must head to Long Beach where they will strip nude and swim to a pontoon to retrieve their next clue. Skye-Blue & Jake decide to go for it and can now make their way to the Pit Stop by kayaking to the Lady Nelson. They check in as Team #1 and win $5000 each plus free Subway for a year.

Chris & Aleisha decide to pass on the Fast Forward so they will face the Road Block: Who’s a good shot? For this Road Block, teams must head to Taroona Shot Tower where they must count the steps it takes to the top. Chris decides to do it.

MJ & Chelsea, Ashleigh & Amanda and Jaskirat & Anurag are next to finish the window cleaning. Meanwhile, Holly & Dolor are next to finish the house of cards, leaving the Cowboys in last place even though they had arrived first.

On the way to the tower, Ashleigh & Amanda read in their guide book of Tasmania that there are 318 steps. So they already have the answer. Meanwhile already at the tower, Chris gets it by counting as the task was intended, he drops his led shot and gets the next clue revealing the Detour: Sweets or Spirits.

In Sweets, teams must head to Coal River Farm and lick their way through huge chocolate art until they reveal a hidden message telling them to find the clue at Chili the goat’s house. In Spirits, teams must head to Tasmanian Cas Co. where they will assemble a whiskey barrel.

Chris & Aleisha choose the whiskey barrel.

Back at the tower, MJ gets the right number and she and Chelsea choose the chocolates. Ashleigh and Anurag arrive next. Ashleigh decides to count the steps as she walks up anyway just to make sure. Both the Gold Coast Girls and Super Sikhs also choose chocolates.

Dolor is next to climb up the stairs, but he guesses 428 steps. His next guess is 317. And Dolor’s frustration grows as the Cowboys arrive. But both get even more guesses wrong.

Dolor finally gets his guess right after five attempts and he and Holly leave for the chocolate Detour. Dolor is unsure about it though and wonders if they should do the barrel.

At the chocolates, MJ & Chelsea find Chili the goat and over at the whiskey, Chris & Aleisha are also done. They head to the Pit Stop and check-in as Teams 2 and 3, respectively.

Ashleigh & Amanda and Jaskirat & Anurag have no problem licking for their clues. But later as Holly & Dolor get started with the chocolates, Dolor feels grossed out about licking next to her. He can’t do it. Holly is just worried about building tasks. But Dolor insists he will not do this. Either Holly does it herself or they switch. He even offers to do the building task on his own while Holly watches. When Dolor holds the board from the back, he can see where the words are so he can direct Holly to where she should lick.

Over at the Pit Stop, Jaskirat & Anurag finish as Team #4 and Ashleigh & Amanda finish as Team #5.

It’s down to the last two teams. Holly & Dolor go searching for Chili’s house as Brendon & Jackson start licking. Holly & Dolor think Chili is a person. The lady at the store tells them to search outside, but they think Chili is a person. They get in their car and drive to nearby human houses asking for Chili.

Brendon & Jackson quickly find Chili’s house and head to the Pit Stop. They check-in as Team #6.

That means Holly & Dolor are last and sadly eliminated from the Race.

Episode Thoughts

It’s definitely a historic moment this episode as The Amazing Race finally travels to Tasmania. A first for the entire franchise.

The first task with the house of cards is alright. They found a way to connect it historically, so that’s fine. And having all the teams there at the same, competing side by side is a good thing. Plus, it obviously wasn’t an easy task.

The abseiling down the side of the building and cleaning windows is definitely not new on TAR. (Not even new on this season! Lol) But obviously on a home country Race with 53 Legs, you’re doing to be repeating such tasks. As a processional task, it definitely separates teams too much though which is a little meh. I much prefer tasks where teams don’t have to get in line and can separate themselves based on their own performance rather than standing in a queue.

The Fast Forward was okay. It immediately reminds me of TARAu2’s nude art class Fast Forward. Lol

The Road Block was also a familiar task. A good location for it though.

The Detour was great as they were both fresh tasks. We’ve seen tasks where teams have to eat their way through chocolate. But not one where they have to lick their way through to chocolate. So that’s definitely new. But what a task to have during COVID time, yeah? Lol The whiskey barrel task is a good build kind of task. And also something different from the usual building crates or something more simple like that.

Overall, a pretty good Leg. Again, the more normal a Leg is, the better and more enjoyable it is. Even if the result was not the best. huhu

My Subjective Team Rankings

Chris & Aleisha had a pretty good Leg. It’s great to see them doing well. And I think they’ve really been stepping it up, which is a good thing. You never want to peak too early.

Holly & Dolor though were the stars of the episode. And arguably, the stars of the season. It is so sad to see them be eliminated so early. There’s like 28 more Legs left. And it would’ve been awesome to see them part of every single one of them. While Dolor being a big baby at the Detour was pretty bad, Holly did carry their team through it. And that’s been one of the fun things about them.

They complement each other well in tasks. And that’s really how they’ve been able to get through to Leg 16 even when there are times Dolor comes up short compared to how confident he can be. Lol That confidence is also what’s provided some of the funniest moments of the season as well. You can’t deny these two, especially Dolor, have provided great entertainment. And on a season this long and sometimes boring, Dolor and Holly have helped lighten the mood and make things fun. A big loss.

MJ & Chelsea showing that they can be unstoppable once again. They’re just a strong team. But as they showed a few Legs ago, they’re not invincible. It’s going to take some bad luck to get them out of the Race. But otherwise, they’re honestly the team to beat at this point.

Speaking of peaking early, it’s so weird to watch Jaskirat & Anurag just essentially get by Leg after Leg when they started the Race as the second coming of Tom & Tyler. They’ve really fallen under the radar, both with their Racing and compared to the other teams and their drama and out of nowhere rivalries.

(And again, I have to point out how great it is that the alliance that formed the other Leg was again absent. Let’s continue to keep it that way!)

Ashleigh & Amanda are strong Racers. But certainly not the most consistent. They match well with Brendon & Jackson who have also been up and down.

Now I rarely base my weekly rankings on things not in the episodes. But I feel like this relates to what’s been going on. In an interview for Network 10’s website, Jake says:
“That’s the approach I took rather than eliminated threats through alliances. The alliances Sky and I made were to ensure we made it to the final with people who shared similar morals, raced the way we did and teams that, if they beat us in the final, I could be happy for them, shake their hands and say you won fair and square.”

So is he essentially saying if the winner of the season does not share his morals, that team didn’t win fair and square? What?! That’s such a Mine Five/TRuE aLLiAnCe-type of nonsense thinking that gets me so annoyed. How cringeworthy. And judging from what’s been shown on the episodes, it certainly seems like one of the reasons the Originals was formed. So Skye-Blue & Jake, easily at the bottom of my list.
