Recap: Mashin Sentai Kiramager, Episode 35 – Wandering Mabushina

Mabushina wakes up covered in mud, holding Shiny Breaker and finding the Operations Room completely trashed. Muryou says this was all her doing and is not surprised she doesn’t remember anything she was drunk out of her mind yesterday.

The computer system was damaged thanks to Mabushina, so the Kiramagers needed to rush out to face the Jamenju which arrived without them being alerted. The Kiramagers are unsure about the Jamenju’s erratic behavior, however. And it ends up running away. They return to the coconut tree.

An apologetic Mabushina listens as Muryou explains how it started. He had been packing special Japanese tea for a client he wanted to apologize to. He felt the gesture would show his sincerity. Since he had an extra bottle, he gave it to Mabushina and suggested she enjoy it with Takamichi.

Mabushina calls Takamichi over to the Operations Room. When Takamichi arrives, he sees Mabushina taking a sip of the tea and screams to not drink it. But it’s too late. Takamichi explains to Muryou that Japanese tea is basically like Merorophumophumo, a drink on Crystalia that has the same effects as alcohol on humans.

A drunk Mabushina chugs the whole bottle and is absolutely hammered. She grabs Takamichi, takes his notebook and says she will find the fourth Kanaema Stone herself. She hurls Takamichi across the room and headbutts Muryou. Losing her footing, she slams her whole body into the operations table, chugs some more tea and leaves. Takamichi chases after her.

Muryou says he hasn’t been able to reach Takamichi or Drilljan since. Sena sees the notebook, opens a page and thinks she knows where they can find Takamichi. She literally zooms out of the room. Shiguru, Juuru and Mabushina follow while Sayo and Tametomo help Muryou clean up.

They find themselves at a concert hall. An ice cream seller recognizes Mabushina, but they are shocked to find the grounds of the hall full of holes.

Yodonna appears and says this was all Mabushina’s doing. She explains that she was here with Golf Jamen yesterday, whacking people in the butt with golf clubs to gather darkness. That’s when Mabushina and Takamichi had arrived.

After Mabushina drops Takamichi on his butt, she calls for Shiny Breaker and begins drilling all over the grounds.

When he sees Yodonna and the Jamenshi, Takamichi quickly henshins. Yodonna, however, is very confused at Mabushina’s drilling. Mabushina digs up a Monstone and manages to stumble her way out of danger. But she bumps into the ice cream vendor from earlier.

Mabushina takes an ice cream bar and hurls it at the Monstone. It dodges out of the way and the ice cream is lodged in Yodonna’s mouth. She likes it.

Mabushina headbutts the Monstone instead and it fuses with Golf Jamen. Takamichi chases after him and tells Shiny Breaker to follow along with Mabushina. Mabushina goes flying around, causing major damage before she flies off.

Sena, Shiguru, Juuru and Mabushina head in the direction that Yodonna points out. Yodonna, meanwhile, demands the ice cream vendor gives her more treats.

The four arrive at a lake and find Drilljan submerged. Sena calls Zabyun to raise it out of the water. Juuru and Mabushina head inside. But instead of Takamichi, they find Golf Jamen and says this is all Mabushina’s fault.

The four surround Golf Jamen on the lakeshore so he can explain. While Takamichi and Golf Jamen had been fighting, a Jamenju arrives. Takamichi calls for Drilljan. But Mabushina whacks Golf Jamen on his butt. Golf Jamen tries to whack Mabushina with his golf club, but Takamichi shields Mabushina and gets whacked right into the Golf Cart Jamenju’s head.

An angry Mabushina dropkicks Golf Jamen and hurls him into Drilljan so they can save Takamichi. But Mabushina instead drives Drilljan into the lake, headbutts the Jamenshi and leaves him there as it sinks.

Meanwhile, Garuza decides this is the perfect opportunity to kill his nephew. So he hops into Smog Jouki and battles the Jamenju. Juuru calls Sayo and Tametomo, fills them in on what’s happening and they call King Oradin to help with Grateful Phoenix. Garuza is excited to get a chance at his brother now too.

Juuru, Shiguru and Sena are struggling against Golf Jamen. Mabushina cannot believe this is all her fault. She calls her brother and apologizes for creating this mess. She asks him what she should do. Takamichi tells her of an Earth saying, “I wish there was a hole I could crawl into.” He then realizes that the hole in Golf Jamen’s head is his weak spot. Takamichi tells his sister to take those feelings she has and do something to demonstrate her sincerity.

Mabushina has just the idea. She takes the coins from the others’ attacks earlier and infuses them with her feelings to fashion a Kirakira Golf Ball. Juuru and Sena chase after the Jamenshi. Mabushina hands Shiguru the golf ball and hits it toward Sena who then hits it toward Juuru who uses an Kiramai Eagle Shot to hit a hole in one. That blows up Golf Jamen for good.

With the Jamenshi defeated, Takamichi is able to get spit out by the Jamenju before Garuza delivers a finisher at it, thinking he has successfully killed his nephew.

Back at the coconut tree, Mabushina writes in her diary about what she has learned today. She is grateful for her brother and others’ kindness toward her.

But when she reaches for her drink, she instead grabs Muryou’s tea cup and is back to being drunk.

Later, Mabushina wakes up to find the others sprawled out around the Operations Room, also seemingly drunk.

Episode Thoughts

OMG! I don’t remember the last time I laughed so much and so hard during an episode of toku. This episode was amazing and hilarious all the way through. It definitely helps that Mabushina is an awesome character. But the chaotic randomness of the episode was just absolutely incredible. So much fun.

It’s a pretty funny concept. And you’re certainly not going to see it on certain other toku shows, if you know what I mean. An episode all about a main character getting drunk and causing chaos? Lol

It’s certainly relatable to some of us older fans watching the episode. Seeing Takamichi try to get his drunk little sister under control definitely brought back some memories for me. I don’t have siblings, but there’s certainly been a time or two where I’ve had to deal with… uh… less-than-sober friends lol

Like I said, Mabushina has been such a great character. And you can’t go wrong with a Mabushina-focus episode. (Seriously though, did you see her manhandling everyone this episode? Give her a Kiramai Changer now!)

Everyone else also got into the madness. Another example of the season really involving every single character in significant ways. Some truly random, but amusing quirks throughout the episode. Even Yodonna discovering the joys of ice cream from Hiroya Matsumoto. Completely random. But how can you not love and enjoy it.

This episode is a perfect example of being completely bonkers, but still being fun and enjoyable. And even with the hilarity, there was nothing that went against the fabric of the season. No out of character moments. No throwing away of the plot. It all fit. And it all worked.

Overall, just an unexpectedly chaotic and hilarious episode. Definitely a treat. And just another example of how Kiramager has delivered this season.
