Episode Thoughts

This was definitely a very full episode and a lot of great things about it.

First off, it was a wonderful episode to illustrate the possibilities of human-Humagear partnership. It really was emotional to see 119 Nosuke sacrifice his “life” to save the victims. The scenes of 119 Nosuke’s clothes catching of fire as he walks through the burning hallway and then his human skin slowing burning and melting off his mechanical body! Very jarring, but in a powerful way.

Imagine that shot of 119 Nosuke’s lifeless shell of a body still holding up the debris as if he was frozen in time after getting engulfed in a nuclear bomb! Very sad, emotional stuff.

It really helps to drive home the point of the struggle between the humans and Humagears as different, but perhaps equal and helpful to each other when working in harmony.

Then we contrast that hope and positivity with Mr. Amatsu Gai’s sinister, evil grin and smirk. What an absolute asshole! Lol Just incredible how horrible he really is and with really nothing yet to explain why he is the way he is.

Still, I find myself not hating him though which is actually very disconcerting for me. lol But as they’ve done an excellent job at painting him this way, I hope they have an equally great fleshing out of his backstory.

It was awesome to see Yua’s doubts about her boss a little more directly this episode. Especially as she sided with Captain Homura and then her getting dragged by Isamu, but having wanted to help from the beginning anyway.

Speaking of, you can count on Isamu to do the right thing. So it was great to see him be noble and try to be heroic by running in. Though it was a little funny to see him dousing himself with water, but not Yua lol

Finally, Jin continues to be boss even in just very short scenes. It really is very interesting and fun to see the huge dynamic shift between him and Horobi. I was really disappointed though that Jin did not hand Gai his ass on a silver platter. I really wanted to see that happen lol!

Overall, a very full and very strong episode.

  1. I am very much looking forward to the moment Gai finally loses his smug composure. Like Ryoma when he first saw Lord Baron. That was powerful and satisfying.
