Recap: Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, Episode 45 – Get Your Heart Back!

Master Black assures the guys to trust him as he leads them out of the tunnels. They end up exiting right at the ruins of their old village.

They arrive back home and they try to get Seto to emerge from Papa Naohisa’s body. Asuna tries putting Papa Naohisa to sleep and Melto tries using KotaeSoul to try to get him to talk. But neither work.

Asuna asks Master Black why he disguised as Saden all this time.

Master Black explains that Pricious arrived 300 years ago. Master Black and Master Green were able to drive Pricious away, but Master Black had found where Eras was sealed. Through his investigations, he found Ryusoul Calibur in the temple in the sky was used to seal Eras. Pricious knew he needed the Ryusoul Tribe to pull it out. So he planned for all the Druidons around the universe to come attack Earth to provoke the Ryusoul Tribe to pull the sword out.

Master Black faced off against Saden and was able to kill him. That’s when he put on Saden’s body and posed as him to try and find a way to stop Pricious; plan.

Melto points out that it was only after Heras absorbed the power of Ryusoul Calibur that Seto told them to pull it out. Tyramigo says Seto sealed the Kishiryu away in order to restore the power of Ryusoul Calibur.

Melto realizes that’s why their village was connected to the temple where Eras was sealed.

Seto appears and says he was able to use the Kishiryu to keep Eras sealed, but Ryusoul Calibur still weakened. He adds that Eras cannot be defeated because it has become one with the Earth.

Before he can explain more, Seto leaves again.

Master Black knows Eras has grown roots into the Earth and is absorbing all the planet’s energy. So even if they defeat her, she will come back. Asuna proposes they just yank the roots out. Koh thinks that’s a great idea.

Over in the temple, Pricious wonders where Saden is so he squeezes his heart card. Master Black writhes in pain and explains that Pricious takes his lackeys’ hearts so they wouldn’t dare betray him.

The Ryusoulgers accompany Master Black back to the temple. But Koh has an idea.

The alarm system Pricious has set up alerts them to the Ryusoulgers being near. Gunjoji and Yabasword face them before they can enter the temple.

Saden meets back with Pricious in front of Eras. Pricious says he is happy that Eras has been able to birth new comrades for him. Because of that, he doesn’t need to take their hearts anymore in order for them to remain loyal.

Pricious apologizes for having to take Saden’s heart. But while Pricious trusts Saden, he doesn’t trust that he wouldn’t betray him if he had the chance. Saden says that is not trust then.

Pricious does not appreciate being talked back to and he crumples the heart card, causing Saden to writhe in pain again.

But suddenly, Saden whips out his sword and chops Pricious’ arm off. Saden catches the heart card and Pricious is shocked he was able to move while he crushed the card.

Turns out this Saden is actually Koh.

Koh zooms out of the temple.

The others have been busy taking care of Drunns who have managed to rip Bamba’s shirt open.

Gunjoji notices Koh is missing just as he is able to arrive back out. He tosses Master Black his heart back.

The Ryusoulgers do an unhenshined roll call before henshining to take on Gunjoji and Yabasword. But the Ryusoulgers are shocked when Gunjoji declares he would give his life to make the almighty Pricious happy.

Pricious arrives and Master Black tells him that he should take it from the Ryusoulgers who trust their comrades. Pricious says they can all be buried in the same grave then.

Pricious and Master Black face off. Master Black says Pricious will be forever alone.

Suddenly, Eras begins pumping loudly. Something activates inside Yabasword who proceeds to go berserk, attacking everyone including Pricious.

They are all shocked.

Yabasword embiggens and proclaims that both Druidons and the Ryusoul Tribe must be defeated.

Yabasword bombards the quarry with explosions, forcing the Ryusoulgers to dehenshin. It then engulfs the Ryusoulgers in a tornado.

Pricious flies up to Yabasword and takes its heart into a card. That forces Yabasword to debiggen back down to size.

Pricious has no idea what is happening, but something is definitely happening with Eras.

Episode Thoughts

I liked last week’s episode, but I’m back to being confused and underwhelmed. This was another exposition dump of things we need to know going into the final episodes. It’s like you really don’t need to have watched the previous 44 episodes in order to be able to follow what’s going on in these final episodes. And that’s not a good thing.

This whole Eras/Pricious arc feels like a midseason climax story. Not something that should be the climax and culmination of a 45-50 episode journey.

There’s definitely great potential in this whole Eras story. Especially with Eras seemingly rising up for some reason at the end. But it has nothing to do with the overall theme of the season or what we’ve been watching all this time. I want to watch a complete story from Episode 1 to Episode ~50. And it’s almost as if Ryusoulger just dropped everything pre-40 and decided to do something else for the final arc.

Then again, one of my criticisms has been there actually hasn’t been even a semblance of an endgame or goal throughout the season. So maybe that’s partly a reason.

But without knowing what the final episodes hold, I’m definitely torn over how disengaged I am with how this final arc is shaping up.

I did enjoy the complete clusterfrak of explosions and smoke at the end. And the roll call was amazing. But the epicness of those scenes did not match the story or writing leading up to it.

Anyway, Master Black putting on Saden’ suit is like if someone killed a human and then wore their skin. Like, that’s actually pretty disgusting!

And I always enjoy unmorphed roll calls. But isn’t it a little too early for one? Should save it for the finale or penultimate episode, yes?

Overall, I really don’t know what’s happening or how the final episodes will play out. But I guess I won’t know how I truly feel about these episodes until the final scene of the season. Still hoping things come together by then.
