After checking in at the U-Turn, teams must now hop onto a bus to the “hot” town of Karlovy Vary.

From the bus stop, teams must make their way on foot to Deer Jump Lookout.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

Here, teams must search the town below for their next clue. That clue will be a faint yellow and red banner hanging from the rooftop of the Hotel Imperial.

Teams must now make their way on foot to the Hotel Imperial where they will find the Forced Double U-Turn Reveal Board! As well as the Detour: Blow It or Press It.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

In Blow It, teams must head to Moser Museum and Glassworks Factory. They will choose three out of five examples of glass figures and learn how to blow, shape and cut replicas of them. Each team member must make at least one of the three they choose. Once their glasswork is approved, they will receive the next clue.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

In Press It, teams will learn how to make the famous Karlovarske Oplatky, or Carlsbad Wafers. Teams must correctly make 50 wafers and properly package them before receiving two wafers to go and their next clue.

That clue directs teams to the Statue T.G. Masaryka.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

Here, teams must search for one of eight porcelain cups with The Amazing Race Philippines logo painted on them. Inside these cups is their next clue.

Teams must now search the town’s 15 drinkable hot springs for five specific ones based only on photos of each tap. Using the porcelain cup they have obtained, both team members must each drink a full cup of water from these five hot springs and collect a piece of their next clue from each.

The newly pieced together clue will direct teams to the Mill Colonnade for their next clue, a Double Road Block: Use Hands or Use Memory.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

Karlovy Vary is a popular spa town with people coming to relax and enjoy the natural hot springs for their healing capabilities. For this Double Road Block, teams will head to Tawan Nikolina where they will experience one of the more unique relaxation treatments in town.

The Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition 19

The team member who will Use their Memory must watch a massage demonstration and remember the different parts of the body included in one traditional massage. The team member who will Use their Hands will then cover their teammate in hot chocolate and be guided by that teammate through the massage. If teams can get through one massage correctly, they will receive the next clue.

And that clue tells teams to make their way on foot to the Market Colonnade, the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.

The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

The last team to check-in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

So the episode preview above really should come with an SPG warning, yeah? Lol But basically, this Leg was inspired by the Korean drama Are You Human which aired last year on KBS (and this year on GMA Network in the Philippines) starring Seo Kang Joon and Gong Seung Yeon. I highly recommend the series. It’s great.

But I was enamored by the wonderful scenes the drama filmed in the Czech Republic. So I found out the town was actually Karlovy Vary and decided why not center a Leg here. It’s also perfect as a next Leg after Slovenia as well.

First, we have a quick pit stop in Prague just to add an extra Route Marker and have a good spot for the U-Turn Vote Board.

Then we arrive in Karlovy Vary where teams will be on foot the entire rest of the day. That should add extra challenge to the Leg, especially when I think there needs to be at least one more significant task on this Leg than what we have.

First up is the typical “Look for clue below from the lookout point/top floor”. We already had a task like this back in Vietnam. But it’s a nice location here and gets us to use the 8K UHD drones for great aerial shots.

The Detour should be good and it would be great if all six teams got U-Turned this Leg. Both tasks are very straightforward and certainly familiar tasks for TAR. But as we are nearing the end of the Race, the tension should be high and hopefully teams will already be kind of tired from walking by this point.

For the glass blowing, the difference here from other times is teams must choose different designs. Each team member must do at least one and then one of them does the 3rd. Since the figures are different, some teams could get lucky by choosing an easier one or others could be unlucky by choosing a really intricate piece.

The wafers is a good task, kind of like the fortune cookie task from the TAR30 finale in San Francisco. But it is a good Detour here and balanced with the glassworks.

A possible highlight for the Leg is the teams exploring the hot springs taps of Karlovy Vary. For the hot springs, I think it would be interesting to have teams just search for the 15 taps on their own instead of giving them any clues as to which are the correct ones. But having to find specific ones based on vague photos could also present its own unique challenges as well. Either task would be good though as it gets teams running around the town for a while.

I really wasn’t sure how to incorporate the spas into this Leg. But I think this Double Road Block should be very interesting and funny. It involves a couple of different parts of course. One team member must memorize a specific massage routine and they must then basically teach the partner how to do it by memory. All while being covered in chocolate. It should present a very unique and challenging task for the teams. And we could be in for some funny moments as well.

Finally, teams make their way on foot to the Pit Stop. And one point for this Leg is to also feature the town’s colonnades. Very beautiful.

Overall, I think this actually would make for a great early Leg since it does lack one or two other tasks to fill it out. But I think it’s alright as we have it. Very competitive Leg especially with only six teams and so close to the Finish Line.
