Recap: Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, Episode 37 – Birth! The Greatest Tag Team

Koh is shocked to find Tyramigo with a little boy, Ichiro, in his mouth.

Ichiro’s mother, Dr. Kyoko, scolds Papa Naohisa for the trouble this has caused since Ichiro is currently studying for exams. She tells them not to let Tyramigo out of the house.

Before she leaves, Dr. Kyoko turns to Ui and says it’s such a shame she has ended up hanging around hoodlums like these three when she had done so well in school.

They try to get Tyramigo to explain what happened, but he remains silent and then leaves as well. Koh follows him out.

Meanwhile, Gachireus approaches Waizuru and Kureon with a proposal to work together to destroy the Ryusoulgers so they can rub it in Pricious’s face.

Koh continues to try and get Tyramigo to talk, but Tyramigo tells him to mind his own business. Canalo, with a bouquet of roses, comes walking up to them. But suddenly Gachireus pops up. Koh calls the others.

Canalo and Koh are taken aback by attacks that seemingly come of nowhere. Tyramigo charges at Gachireus and accidentally swats Koh with his tail.

The others arrive, but Asuna hears the incoming attacks. Gachireus says they are invisible missiles. The Ryusoulgers have no way to counter them now so they have to retreat.

Back home, they try to figure out where the missiles might be coming from. But Koh also tries to figure out what is going on with Tyramigo. He says Tyramigo is keeping things from him and getting in his way in battle when Kishiryu and Ryusoulgers should have absolute faith in each other.

Over at the fun lair, Kureon and his Minosaur are surprised to find Pricious waiting for them. Pricious tries to take Kureon’s heart, but it turns out he doesn’t have one. Pricious then offers Kureon to be his right-hand man and the position as highest-ranking Druidon general.

Pricious gives Kureon time to think about it. Kureon wonders if this means he’ll no longer get bossed around.

Tyramigo visits Ichiro in the hospital. Ichiro says he’s fine and hopes they can play together again once he is discharged. Tyramigo isn’t sure since they could get in trouble with Dr. Kyoko. Ichiro reminds Tyramigo that he promised not to tell anyone their secret.

Pii-tan listens in on their conversation and wonders what they could be referring to.

Tyramigo wishes Ichiro gets well soon and he leaves just as Dr. Kyoko walks in. But turns out it actually isn’t the real her at all.

Elsewhere in town, Bamba clues Koh in to the fact that maybe Koh has been too possessive and controlling of Tyramigo.

Pii-tan confronts Tyramigo about what he heard, but Tyramigo still refuses to talk. Just then, Drunns run past while carrying Ichiro away. Tyramigo chases after them to a warehouse where Waizuru and Kureon have the real Dr. Kyoko, the Minosaur birther, captive.

Waizuru shoots at Tyramigo, threatening to hurt Ichiro more if he doesn’t stand down. Pii-tan quickly calls the Ryusoulgers and they hurry over.

Gachireus meets the Ryusoulgers to stop them from reaching the warehouse. But they also still have the invisible missiles to deal with. Asuna uses her hearing to try and alert the others to incoming attacks.

Koh runs ahead to help Tyramigo while the others must fight off a hoard of Drunns and the continuing bombardment of invisible missile attacks.

The Drunns continue poking at Ichiro which drives Dr. Kyoko further to despair. Pii-tan notices her life energy zooms straight into the ground.

Koh arrives and Waizuru spills the beans on the underground Minosaur. Pii-tan tells the others, who have no choice but to run and avoid Gachireus and the Drunns.

Melto realizes the Minosaur must be using the sound of their RyuSouls to determine where they are above ground so it can target the attacks. Asuna suggests they make a lot of sound then to prevent the Minosaur from being able to pinpoint their locations. The five of them use FueSoul to bombard the area with the sounds of different RyuSouls.

That confuses the Minosaur and that gives them enough time to henshin.

Koh apologizes to Tyramigo for being too possessive of him instead of trusting him. Tyramigo apologizes for being to stubborn sometimes.

Tyramigo gets on his feet. Koh henshins to Max and the two of them work together to charge at Waizuru who ends up shielding himself with Drunns so he can retreat.

Koh leaps up to the rafters, which drives Kureon away as well as the Drunns holding both Dr. Kyoko and Ichiro hostage.

Asuna uses DosshinSoul to drive the Minosaur out of the ground. But the Minosaur has already gotten enough life energy to embiggen. Koh, Melto and Canalo hop into King KishiryuOh and finish off the Minosaur for good.

At the fun lair, Gachireus scolds Kureon for making the Minosaur grow since they could have won if it remained underground.

Back home, Ichiro apologizes to everyone to dragging Tyramigo into all this. He admits it was his fault he got hurt because he slipped off a tree while playing with Tyramigo. His mother does not like him playing with guns as she wants him to focus on his studies so he can become a doctor. So when his mother walked up to them, he inserted himself into Tyramigo’s mouth to hide the fact he was playing.

Koh asks why Tyramigo didn’t just say that earlier. Pii-tan chimes in to say Tyramigo promised not to tell anyone.

Dr. Kyoko apologizes to her son for being overly strict with him.

Ui asks if she could say something. She tells Dr. Kyoko that Koh, Melto and Asuna are not hoodlums, but actually great people. By meeting them, she was able to realize how great it is to have friends.

Ui asks Dr. Kyoko if she could take back what she said about them being hoodlums.

Dr. Kyoko agrees and apologizes to them. But also thanks them for saving their lives. Koh says it’s no problem.

Before they leave, Dr. Kyoko tells Ui to remind her father to make an appointment so they can discuss the results of his endoscopy from last month.

Melto realizes that the Minosaur was able to attack from where they could not see since Dr. Kyoko is a gastroenterologist who uses an endoscope.

Just then, Seto appears to tell them the Temple of the Beginning is calling. They must all go there to understand why.

Episode Thoughts

I definitely enjoyed this episode. This was a great one that pretty much had everything you’d want from a non-climactic filler episode. Great character moments, exciting action, simple moments of fun.

Weaving together the two possessive relationships (Koh & Tyramigo/Dr. Kyoko & Ichiro) worked very well. It wasn’t so heavy as some kind of abusive relationship or something like that. But a pretty simple lesson about trusting each other, even in the little things. Reminding that friends should trust each other more. While also reminding parents to ensure their children get a good education, but not at the expense of their childhood and simple fun.

Interestingly, I just realized it also could play into Kureon’s own growth as a character as well. We of course have seen him suffer throughout the season and seemingly long for the day he is able to be free and make his own decisions. So perhaps this was the episode that sets him on that path to finally break free of being just a lackey. And instead him becoming his own person. (Or being, whatever Druidons are lol)

It was great to see everyone have something to do this episode. Even Tyramigo and Pii-tan. And that really helped with the big action sequences throughout. Especially everyone (minus Koh) taking on the Drunns and Gachireus, both morphed and unmorphed. That was the kind of big action scene I enjoy watching and wish we had more of from all toku, even in non-climactic episodes.

Ui’s moment at the end was particularly wonderful. Based on everything we know of Ui, it was a very big moment for her to speak up and stand up for her friends. As well as basically admit that she maybe was not in the best of places before Koh, Melto and Asuna came into her life.

That also added to Dr. Kyoko’s own growth and change as she realized her being too strict and perhaps too judgmental was not the best look for her. And so now, she’s on a better path forward with her son.

Of course, it was fun seeing Rei Yoshii playing Dr. Kyoko. I wonder if Ichiro is actually Rinna and her Genpachi’s son?! hehe It’s all in the Toei Universe, so it’s possible! And now I suddenly miss Drive! lol

Overall, I thought this was a great episode. Very enjoyable. Great balance of dramatic and fun moments with plenty of great action.
