Episode Thoughts

So interestingly enough, I feel like this episode laid things out very nicely. While Oma Zi-O’s part in everything is still a big question (that might get answered next week), Schwartz’s plan and the reason for Sougo collecting the Watches made sense.

A lot of the foundation of Schwartz’s plan to make sense seems to even stem from Build‘s finale (which again, was rumored to have been rewritten to support Zi-O‘s plot). Different worlds and timelines. Smashing worlds together to create a brand new one. That was introduced in the Build finale. And Zi-O took that and ran with it.

Not only are the Riders from different worlds, Sougo’s very actions (or at least, each tribute arc) each created brand new timelines. Even Geiz and Tsukuyomi first arriving in 2018 created a new timeline from wherever they came.

So it definitely also makes sense for villains from the original timelines to still exist if Riders no longer existed in those timelines/worlds.

The show hasn’t talked about this detail in a long time, but previously, when Another Riders were defeated, the original Riders temporarily regained their memories. Then when Sougo obtained the Watch, the Riders would lose their memories again.

We seemingly see that at play with Chase. He comes from the new timeline where Drive doesn’t exist, but he still has his memories pre-Drive Watch and they are bubbling to the surface because time has been completely screwed up. And the worlds colliding are throwing everything into chaos. Anything goes! lol

But aside from drawing on Build‘s world building, literally, Zi-O has definitely drawn from Decade as well.

The Decade/Zi-O memes have been there all season, but it definitely looks like it’ll become a reality. And with only two episodes left, it appears Zi-O might end just like Decade did.

That is, Decade didn’t end with the season finale. (Obviously, since we still have Tsukasa roaming different worlds to this day lol) And it might seem Zi-O’s story won’t truly end with the season finale either.

But also the idea of different worlds collapsing and coming together. Now, I actually haven’t seen the Decade-W Movie Wars. The last of Decade I’ve watched was the season finale cliffhanger. So I don’t know what kind of conclusion showed up in the movie.

At the same time, Decade was more about the journey with the characters than the real endgame. But Zi-O does have a better and more defined plot. So we’ll see how well the two episodes wrap everything up.

I was kinda expecting a more epic face to face between Tsukasa and Daiki. I wish Tsukasa had dehenshined when he put his hand out for Daiki. Especially knowing Masahiro Inoue and Kimito Totani’s great chemistry and back and forth, I was excited to finally get a chance for a real face to face this episode. But alas, it didn’t happen. Hopefully sometime in the next two episodes.

Hearing that Decade BGM play was pretty awesome.

It was great seeing Chase. I honestly never expected the Chase-Go bromance to reach all the way to a different season. But here we are!

Again, everything the Drive characters have been in post-season have done more to further their story and characters than most of the season itself. And I hope Taiko Katono sticks around for Episode 48.

I really enjoyed seeing young Schwartz again. I feel like it would’ve been fun to see him more during the season, going up against his big little sister. Tenma Naruse did a great job this episode and I think definitely matched up well with Kentaro Kanesaki’s performance of Schwartz that we are familiar with.

So in the preview, it showed Sougo revealing to Uncle Junichiro that he’s a Kamen Rider. But early in this episode, I thought Uncle Junichiro’s worried look at the Watches on the Daizer meant something. Like he’s known all along or something else. Or maybe even a bigger role in the big picture than we ever expected. I hope there’s a twist there next week. But I’m fine with him just being Sougo’s caring Uncle.

Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good episode. Some nice moments in it. But it does feel like it was just revving up for the final episodes. Laying the foundation and cleaning things up to allow the last two episodes to just go crazy. Lol! We’ll see!

  1. So, everything starts to be clear!
Pretty good moment with Chase. I should watch “KR Drive” soon😉
I guess Junichiro started to thinking that Sougo is Kamen Rider.
And nice moment with Tsukasa and Daiki😁
Just two episodes left and now I already want to know how “KR ZI-O” ends!

  2. Finally managed to catch up with the show after three months, and I still don’t know what’s going on. But you know what? I’m more “happily confused” instead of outright frustrated, unlike with my annoyance with Ghost’s confusing plot. And that show only had one timeline to deal with XD.

I have to chalk it it up to how likeable Zi-O’s characters are up to know. There is really something fun with how the mains interact with each other. Plus Tsukasa and Daiki are fun additions. Sougo’s face when Decade transformed into Zi-O is priceless, like “WTF! When did you get my power?!”

Still that whole “combine all rider worlds and destroy them” explanation gives me headaches. I mean, we all had the impression from the start that, in Zi-O’s world, all rider shows happened in one single timeline. After all, they met all those characters in the present, and Build (which was the jump off point) already hinted this. So, why did Schwartz have to go with a convoluted plan to make Present Sougo into Zi-O when he could just destroy the timeline. Or, assuming that Oma Zi-O achieved his powers via the same route, why didn’t Schwartz just destroy HIS timeline.

    Ahhh, my head hurts again.

    1. I agree. I am not as frustrated as I have been with Ghost and even Drive (though with Drive, I was just disappointed in the potential).

I feel like I enjoy the characters and the journey a lot more than the actual plot. And in that sense, it’s the same as how I felt after watching Decade too. I didn’t get what was going on either, but it was fun and enjoyable and I liked all the characters.
