Recap: Kamen Rider Zi-O, Episode 45 – 2019: Eternal Party

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Woz whisks Sougo and Geiz away from Schwartz and his Riders. They, along with Heure, wander around the stream.

Geiz pushes Heure against the fence, upset that he lied to them about Ora being Another Drive. Geiz tells him to get lost. Heure stomps away.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Sougo thinks Geiz is being too harsh, but Geiz reminds him that Heure has been using and hurting innocent people all this time. Sougo thinks Heure has changed. Geiz says people don’t change so easily and that an enemy is an enemy.

Sougo asks why Geiz is still here then if people can’t change. If that were true, there is no way for them to change the future.

Geiz reminds Sougo that it is he who destroyed that future in the first place. Geiz says Sougo cannot possibly understand how it was like to live in that hellish future.

“You’re right, I can’t,” Sougo says. He walks away.

Sougo runs into his former high school classmate Owada who invites him to a Tekken tournament is about to compete in. If he wins, he will represent Japan in the world championships.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Elsewhere, Ora approaches Heure and he is very suspicious of her, unsure if she’s a copy or real. She says he’s just being paranoid, but he runs off.

Heure runs into Ora again. But this Ora henshins to Another Drive. She proceeds to attack him. But another Ora (the one from earlier?) also arrives. She tries to use her power (which she obviously no longer has) and that gives Another Drive a chance to grab her by the neck to try and strangle her to death.

Another Drive explains she is the Paradox Roidmude who can take Ora’s place as the real one once she disappears.

Heure screams for Ora, but Woz arrives to save her as he knocks Another Drive off her.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Geiz arrives back at the shop where Tsukuyomi sits in the dark. She tells him about what Miharu warned her about earlier regarding Sougo and the future. Geiz says Miharu is right and that they should have never come here. They were merely running away from their own time.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Geiz says he and Tsukuyomi should return.

Meanwhile, Owada has lost at the Tekken tournament and he is very upset despite Sougo trying to cheer him up. Schwartz pops in and sends Owada to his own world bubble. But in exchange, out of a dimension wall pops Daido Katsumi.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

After introducing himself, Katsumi henshins to Kamen Rider Eternal. Sougo henshins and they battle.

Back at the shop, Geiz grabs Tsukuyomi’s arm and says they should go back. But Miharu arrives and says they can’t go together since they are from different worlds. Geiz says he understands and leaves.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Miharu says he feels like a bad guy. Tsukuyomi says he’s just doing what he has to, but she asks for more time. She believes what he is saying, but they only gained hope for the future after meeting Sougo.

Miharu says that future belongs to Sougo. Seeing Tsukuyomi’s reaction, he says he will help her get her power back from Schwartz before they return to the future.

Another Drive is able to gain the upper hand on Woz. But Geiz arrives. Heure is shocked that Geiz would arrive to save him. But Geiz says he just likes having Heure be indebted to him.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

While Sougo and Katsumi battle, Tsukasa arrives. Schwartz reminds Tsukasa that since he took his power, Tsukasa is a non-factor. But Tsukasa says his very existence is his power.

Tsukasa is able to open a dimensional wall into Owada’s world and he takes Sougo with him into it.

In Owada’s world, unlike in the real world, he is able to repeatedly win the tournament.

Tsukasa calls this an “Another World” which is based in the realm of possibilities. Owada had the potential to win so Schwartz used that to create the world. Tsukasa says this is all so Schwartz can revive Dark Riders. Kamen Rider Eternal was once defeated by W. But in Another World, Eternal came out on top.

Before they can return, Sougo says they should save Owada. But Tsukasa says he cannot do that until this world is destroyed.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Meanwhile, Miharu arrives and henshins to take on Katsumi.

Over in the warehouse, Another Drive is able to handle both Geiz and Woz.

Ora approaches Heure and asks if he’s okay. He says it was pretty close. Ora offers to make things easier for him.

Sougo arrives from the other world and he, Geiz and Woz are shocked to see Ora has just thrust an energy blade through Heure’s body.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Heure asks why. Ora says only one of them was going to survive against Schwartz. So she made sure it would be her.

Ora walks away and Sougo runs over to Heure as he dies in his arms.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Another Drive laughs at what Ora has done. That enrages Sougo and he henshins to face take her on.

Down by the water, Schwartz watches as Miharu and Katsumi battle. But this is part of the plan. Miharu traps Schwartz to allow Tsukuyomi to try and retrieve her power.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

Miharu takes the battle into the water and says he is the future while Katsumi is just a ghost of the past. Katsumi says that doesn’t matter since the future ends up becoming the past anyway. Katsumi is able send Miharu flying back out of the water and onto solid ground.

Schwartz henshins to Another Decade which stops Tsukuyomi’s power retrieving.

Geiz leaves the warehouse as Sougo summons Drive to help him defeat Another Drive for good.

Sougo returns to Heure to kneel by his dead body.

Back by the water, Schwartz tosses Alpina around. Geiz arrives before Schwartz can deal a finishing blow.

Schwartz says Geiz arriving is also part of his plan. Schwartz sends Geiz to his own Another World.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 45

And in exchange, ShiroWoz makes a return appearance.

Episode Thoughts

So first of all, I doubt Heure is dead since he didn’t fade away in gold glitter like most dead characters do. You know what I mean? At the same time, I really didn’t even care whether he really died or not. Like, speaking of Drive, I felt more connected to and interested in the Roidmudes than I do with either Heure or Ora. And I’ve definitely expressed my disappointment how underdeveloped Heart, Brain and Medic all were despite having a good foundation for what could’ve been a great story.

Zi-O is starting to fall into the “Pull the endgame out of nowhere” trap that a lot of recent Rider seasons have fallen into. Now again, this season really hasn’t had a completely coherent plot to begin with. And you just had to go with it for the anniversary fanwank of it all.

But after this episode, I really don’t think we’re any closer to the endgame than we were 10 episodes ago, to be honest.

This episode seemed to drive home the fact that everyone is from different worlds/timelines/universes. And with all the talk that Build‘s ending was rewritten to kind of help lay the groundwork for Zi-O, that would make sense. Tsukasa’s prominent role this season also contributes to the idea. That even though all our mains came from different worlds, they’ll solve the Oma Zi-O problem (and all the other problems) by creating a new world/timeline/universe together and erasing the original timeline we had at the start of the season.

Or if not erase, just let it exist elsewhere (since they’ve also established that with every Another Rider, another timeline has sprung up somewhere). And the Sougo, Geiz, Tsukuyomi and Woz that we know (and love?) will now inhabit whatever new timeline they create and forge.

That doesn’t guarantee all roads don’t still lead to Oma Zi-O. But then again, with only a few episodes left, we still have no clear picture who or what Oma Zi-O really is in the first place.

Or even if he fits into this endgame at all. We’ve got Schwartz’s world domination plan. Who knows what Ora is up to. And now ShiroWoz pops in as well.

So, I only know of Matsuoka Mitsuru because of “Surprise Drive.” So I don’t know about his backstory from W. But if I did, I wonder if it would add to my understanding of the emotional aspect of the events of the episode.

At the beginning, I understood both Geiz and Sougo regarding Heure and the future. And they both made good points. But obviously the main purpose of this “conflict” is to somehow relate to whatever is about to happen between Sougo and Geiz (and Tsukuyomi) in the end. Will they end up having to truly battle each other? Will they have to truly say goodbye to each other? What does Mission Accomplished truly look like for them?

I really don’t know!

Bringing in the Paradox Roidmude to use in this way was interesting too to wrap up Drive‘s involvement in the season I assume.

And Schwartz’s Another World idea to revive defeated Dark Riders does make sense. But for what purpose? Just to defeat Sougo and Co.?

Anyway, I don’t know if I really want to or should be feeling this way at this point in the season! lol Being surprised and shocked by twists and unexpected turns is always fun. But maybe the suspension of disbelief I’ve put myself under during the season has caught up with me and now I’m feeling like I don’t just want to go with the flow. I want to at least know something going forward towards the end. Get a sort of idea what’s happening. You know?

Because I really don’t know. lol

  1. This starts to be dangerous and even more interesting! Schwartz is really badass and he will do everything to be king himself. And WhiteWoz appeared again!😮
And I was shocked when Ora killed Heure. How could she…!😡 R.I.P. Heure😢😢😢 He really changed. Sougo very liked him. We can clearly see, that earlier situation with Another Kikai changed the youngest Time Jacker.
Tsukasa surprised me too. That’s why I have to watch “Decade” lol
There’s only four episodes left. How can this series ends?
