Recap: Kamen Rider Zi-O, Episode 42 – 2019: Missing World

Sougo refuses to fight Geiz and dehenshins. He remembers Geiz promising to destroy Sougo if he ever really became an evil demon king and accepting that promise.

Geiz prepares to finish Sougo for good. Tsukasa is about to step forward, but Tsukuyomi arrives and freezes time. She says she would like to ask Sougo some questions. They head back to the shop.

Uncle Junichiro expresses his worries to Tsukuyomi about possibly having the demon king in their Resistance hideout. Tsukuyomi heads into the dining room where Tsukasa helps himself to some pastries and Sougo and Geiz stare at each other.

Sougo says the timeline has been messed up and possibly completely rewritten. He explains that they were all friends and comrades (even with Woz) in the original timeline. Geiz says he’s never heard of a “Woz” before.

Tsukuyomi asks who they fought in the original timeline. Tsukasa says it couldn’t be the demon king since Sougo becomes the demon king in the future. Sougo says he’s not helping.

Sougo insists he must defeat Hiryu to return the timeline back to normal. But Geiz thinks this whole discussion is pointless and decides Oma Zi-O will be defeated, regardless of who that ends up being.

Tsukuyomi says she wants to trust Sougo and that either way, Hiryu must be defeated. Geiz tells her to do what she wants.

Meanwhile, Hiryu sits on his throne as Woz shows him video of Sougo as Oma Zi-O. Hiryu decides he must steal that position from Sougo. Ora points out that his Another Riders were defeated, but Hiryu says he’s just getting started. He wants Sougo to suffer even more using Another Zi-O II’s time rewriting ability.

Just then, Daiki storms into the throne room and shoots it up. He is very much interested in the Another Zi-O II Watch. He henshins. Hiryu summons Another Ghost and Another Ex-Aid to attack Daiki. But Daiki summons Specter and Brave to take out the Anothers.

Hiryu takes his Watch out to henshin, but Daiki is able to swipe it before he can. Daiki runs out, but Schwartz freezes time and retrieves the Watch. He returns it to Hiryu and tells him to focus on destroying Sougo.

Schwartz sends Daiki flying into a wall, forcing him to dehenshin. Schwartz then forces a power onto Daiki in exchange for serving him.

Geiz is by the water, trying to understand the strange feeling in his chest he has regarding Sougo. Sougo and Tsukuyomi come running toward him.

Geiz refuses to talk to Sougo. But Tsukuyomi says Sougo might be able to help them fight Hiryu.

Just then, Hiryu arrives and declares he will replace Sougo as the demon king. Sougo says he never wanted to become an evil demon king and promises to finish Hiryu off.

Both Sougo and Hiryu henshin and they begin to battle.

Tsukuyomi says Geiz should help, but Geiz says it’s better for them for Sougo and Hiryu to take each other out.

Suddenly, Daiki arrives and shows Sougo his new power. Daiki is now able to freeze time! Ora is shocked as Daiki approaches Sougo and takes the Grand Zi-O Watch and leaves.

When Hiryu gains the upper hand against Sougo, Geiz stops Tsukuyomi and jumps in himself. Geiz henshins and whisks Sougo away.

Schwartz appears and Tsukuyomi runs.

Up on a roof, Geiz explains that he only saved Sougo because he looked so pathetic. Sougo smiles and says Geiz is really the same as he the Geiz he’s always known.

Geiz asks that that guy was like. Sougo explains how their bond grew stronger over time. From Geiz wanting to kill Sougo to the two of them sharing a desire to save the world and becoming trusted comrades. Sougo points out though that originalGeiz wouldn’t be happy with Woz calling him Sougo’s servant.

Geiz grabs Sougo’s collar saying why would he ever be someone’s servant. Sougo laughs and says this is very Geiz-like.

Geiz can’t help but smile too.

Just then, Tsukuyomi calls to say she’s in trouble. She continues running from Another Build and Another Kabuto. They grab hold of her as Hiryu arrives, wanting to use her as bait for Sougo.

But Tsukasa arrives and says, based on his theory, he can’t let Tsukuyomi fall into Hiryu’s hands.

Hiryu demands to know who he is. Tsukasa says he’s just a passing-through Kamen Rider. They both henshin. Tsukasa tells Tsukuyomi to run, but Another Build and Another Kabuto follow.

Tsukasa and Hiryu battle just as Sougo and Geiz arrive. Sougo and Geiz henshin. Tsukasa and Geiz tell Sougo to save Tsukuyomi while they take care of Hiryu.

Tsukuyomi freezes time as Another Build and Kabuto approach her. But Heure arrives and immediately unfreezes time. He freezes time when Tsukuyomi shoots at him. Sougo arrives, but so does Woz.

Woz tells Heure that he will take care of Sougo. Heure whisks Tsukuyomi away.

Woz tells Sougo that he serves the new demon king and asks him to please stand down or he will have to use force. Sougo says he doesn’t want to fight him. Woz admits he feels the same way.

Woz turns to leave, but first says his goals have not changed and he is only doing what he must.

Ora finds Daiki and asks where he got the freezing power. He tells her Schwartz gave it to him.

Heure has brought Tsukuyomi to Schwartz at the castle. Schwartz says he will answer any question Tsukuyomi might have. Especially since she is his sister.

Both Heure and Tsukuyomi are shocked.

Episode Thoughts

Definitely a very full episode. Lots of things happened. But I think really, the biggest thing was that it really reminded us that there’s actually so many things we don’t know.

Who are the TimeJackers? Even if we assume this is all Schwartz’s plan for world domination, were Ora and Heure just blindly following him? Where did the TimeJackers come from? I assume we’ll find out more when Schwartz and Tsukuyomi’s past is revealed (next episode?). But what is their purpose? Why are they against the (presumed) humans like Geiz and Tsukuyomi’s peoples?

With Woz, he says he’s just doing what he has to do and his mission and goal hasn’t changed. So we still need to find out more about that and the moment he turned his back on his comrades. Is he the real Final Boss? If not, then what’s he doing and why?

I also wonder if we will return to the “original” timeline. That is, obviously the “timeline” is all over the place now. But if we stay in this present timeline without returning to the other one (that is, Geiz and Tsukuyomi and Uncle Junichiro never regaining their memories), that would basically negate the entire season, yes? I assume we will, but you just never know with this season lol

We still got lots of episodes left. And I can only hope they will all be as packed as this one, even if this episode really left more questions than answered them.

I certainly love seeing Daiki again of course. And Tsukasa was a bit of comic relief for most of the episode. lol But I’m definitely waiting for Daiki and Tsukasa to finally share a scene together hehe

This rewriting of time has also brought back tsundereGeiz. But I do think that whole scene of Sougo and Geiz only reinforces their bond rather than just being a deja vu-type of moment.

I also welcome more Hiryu. Like I said before, I do hope we get some actual closure with Hiryu’s character and Hiryu and Sougo’s relationship. Not sure if it’s too late for that. But I do think there’s a great story there. And Hiryu’s a good, full character to explore a little bit more.

Overall, a very full episode that seemed to be part-moving the story forward and part-season refresher to set up the final episodes. We’ll see how things play out.
