Kureon unsuccessfully tries to get the DimeVolcano Kishiryu on their side. But it requires a correct answer to its riddles.
Meanwhile, Koh, Asuna and Melt morph to take on a Minosaur that’s rampaging downtown. The Minosaur is able to emit a fog that creates illusions.
Waizuru whisks the Minosaur away before the fog dissipates. They and Kureon head back to try and get DimeVolcano on their side. Bamba and Towa are able to come across the scene as Kureon again fails DimeVolcano’s quiz. DimeVolcano blows fire at them.
Towa and Bamba head over to Chez Tatsui to tell the others. For some reason, Papa Naohisa falls asleep and starts talking in his sleep about DimeVolcano. He says DimeVolcano’s power was so frighteningly strong that the Ryusoul tribe sealed it away.
Ui asks her father how he knows that, but he wakes up.
Melt remembers reading about the DimeVolcano in old manuscripts. He sees the description of it only giving its great power to those who answered its questions. To those who couldn’t answer, it burned them to ash.
Koh says the manuscript should have info on how to answer the riddles, but it turns out Asuna had accidentally torn it out of the book before. But it’s alright, Towa, Asuna and Koh all believe Melt can answer the questions himself without any help.
As they trek out to the forest where DimeVolcano is hiding, Melt studies up as much as he can.
Koh screams out for DimeVolcano and it appears. Asuna pushes Melt forward. Melt and DimeVolcano both bow to each other. DimeVolcano appreciates Melt’s manners, but says he won’t be holding back.
DimoVolcano asks the riddle. What is it called when the top and bottom are flooded? Melt tries to think, but he can’t come up with an answer and tells them to stop putting all their hopes on his shoulders.
DimeVolcano breathes fire at Melt, but Towa quickly whisks him to safety. Asuna and Towa try making Melt feel better and say they should work together to find a way to answer the riddles.
Koh runs back to DimeVolcano, but it doesn’t appear. He uses KikeSoul and finds he has actually ventured into the city to visit a young boy, Haruto, in the hospital.
Haruto has had surgery on his eyes and is still bandaged up. He is happy DimeVolcano has come to visit and asks him for another riddle. Haruto simply answers DimeVolcano’s question and he laughs in amusement. Haruto tells DimeVolcano that his bandages will be removed next week and he’ll finally be able to see DimeVolcano’s face.
DimeVolcano tries to make excuses to avoid showing his face.
Koh understands the situation and follows DimeVolcano back to the forest. He introduces himself as a member of the Ryusoul Tribe which reminds DimeVolcano of the hurtful past. But Koh bows in apology for his people selfishly sealing him away.
Koh says he understands DimeVolcano must have felt lonely having been separated from and being feared by everyone. But Haruto is not afraid. DimeVolcano says it’s because Haruto can’t see him and he believes once Haruto’s bandages come off, he’ll abandon him too.
Just then, Koh and Bamba learn Haruto has been kidnapped by Waizuru.
Waizuru meets with DimeVolcano to taunt him about Haruto and try to blackmail him. Kureon shows live video of the Drunns lighting a fuse leading to a box of bombs under a chained up Haruto.
Koh tells DimeVolcano that he and his comrades will save Haruto. DimeVolcano asks Koh to say “pizza” 10 times and then asks how he feels. Koh says he wants to eat pizza.
No one thinks that’s the right answer. But it actually is. DimeVolcano says people were so afraid of it that they lost sight of the true meaning of his riddles when the answers were already in the questions.
Because Koh was not afraid, he was able to sincerely answer the question. And because of this, DimeVolcano will grant him his power.
DimeVolcano helps drive Waizuru and Kureon away, allowing the Ryusoulgers to morph and hurry over to Haruto.
The Ryusoulgers take on the Drunns, but the Minosaur emits its fog again. Koh quickly uses DimeVolcano’s MeraMeraSoul to upmorph to MeraMera Armor. It allows him to overcome the fog and defeat all the Drunns in one strike.
Kureon drags the Minosaur away.
Koh quickly runs over to save Haruto from the explosion with MeraMera Armor protecting them.
Back at Chez Tatsui, Papa Naohisa says he found the missing page in his bag, but does not know how it got there. Ui decides to bring her father to a doctor.
Turns out the page’s instructions were exactly as Koh did earlier. Do not be afraid of DimeVolcano’s appearance and answer plainly and sincerely.
Koh brings Haruto to meet DimeVolcano now that he has his bandages off. Haruto says even when he couldn’t see, he knows his friend is big, strong and kind.
DimeVolcano approaches them and Haruto thinks he’s so cool! DimeVolcano is very flattered and thanks Haruto.
First Ryusoulger tackled suicide and mental health. Now they tackle discrimination! Wow!
Lol But seriously. This episode was basically teaching the kiddies not to discriminate against someone based on their appearance. It’s certainly a very unconventional story for toku. But it was done in a very creative way as well. It was very refreshing and actually not totally predictable?
Tyramigo getting a personality and being able to talk has actually turned out well. And DimeVolcano being able to speak in full sentences like this was unexpectedly great too. It turned out to be a great episode when in the beginning I wasn’t sure what was even going on. Lol
At first I thought it was going to be another episode about Melt overthinking things. Then I thought it was going to be about teamwork where the five of them had to put their heads together to figure out the riddles. But it was neither. Turns out it was a Koh-focus episode.
The episode showed that Koh is very earnest. Yes, a little naive and hyper. But he’s sincere and he always means well. He doesn’t seem to have a negative bone in his body! Lol And so far, it works. I wouldn’t be surprised if his positivity turns into a big plotline later on where he breaks down or something. But at the same time I know it doesn’t really need to go that deep. Though I would enjoy it if it did.
The episode was also very interesting because we didn’t get a mecha battle! Now that’s strange! But very refreshing as well. We of course still got lots of mecha “action” with our new friend DimeVolcano. But not the traditional mecha battle. And that was also partly since the Minosaur never embiggened, thus not defeated. We didn’t even learn who the Minosaur was born out of yet either. So it lives to see another episode.
That’s all very interesting and refreshing.
On the contrary, I don’t get Papa Naohisa’s exposition sleeptalking stuff. I’m not sure if it was just a comic gag or if it’s actually going to be part of the story moving forward. Like, Papa Naohisa is from the Ryusoul Tribe or something. But it was just too random to be funny.
Anyway, overall this was a pretty good episode. It started off a little awkward, but finished pretty well and in a heartfelt way.
