Leg 17.03 – “Do you want to break my neck?!”

TARPHDM17

The Race continues as teams must now fly from Chiang Mai to Pune, India!

All teams will be on Thai Airways and Indigo Airlines flights that will get them in Pune by 7am.

TARPHDM17

Once in Pune, teams must figure out how to find Sinhagad Fort where they will search for their next clue.

TARPHDM17

That clue points teams to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

TARPHDM17

And here, teams must first check-in at the Double Yield Board! (If activated.) Teams will then open the next clue which reveals a Duel Duel!

TARPHDM17

For this Duel Duel, teams will face off in a basic cricket match. Taking turns, the first team to hit five balls across a boundary line will win each Duel Duel. Each team member must hit at least two balls across the line. The last team must face off against a local pro and each team member must hit three balls across the boundary line to receive the next clue.

TARPHDM17

After the Duel Duel, teams must head to the National Film Archive of India in Pune. And here they will find the Road Block: Who likes watching films?

TARPHDM17

For this Road Block, teams must search through several hundred filmstrips until they find the one matching the film playing in the theater. When they present the correct filmstrip to the archivist, they will receive the next clue.

TARPHDM17

Teams must now make their way to Kamala Nehru Park where they must search for their next clue. And that clue reveals the Detour: Quick Tempo or Calm Concentration.

TARPHDM17

In Quick Tempo, teams must head to Muktangan Bal-ranjan Kendra where they will learn a traditional Lavani dance. They must perform the dance and get the approval of the dance instructor to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM17

This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg. If any team requires exactly two attempts to pass the Quick Tempo Detour, the U-Turn or Yield will be activated.

TARPHDM17

In Calm Concentration, teams will head to Pune Okayama Friendship Garden where they must learn six couple yoga poses and perform them correctly for the guru to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM17

Teams must now make their way to Saras Baug and search again for their next clue.

TARPHDM17

That clue will direct teams to Aga Khan Palace… the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.

The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+

The last team to check in here… WILL NOT be eliminated! This a Non-Elimination Leg and that last place team must now choose a Non-Elimination penalty envelope.

“Director’s” Commentary

A very nice Leg in Pune! Though I would’ve preferred a different part of the country, maybe one not yet visited on any TAR, Pune was a location that has been on my reserve list for a while and is a good connection between Chiang Mai and the Leg 4 destination.

First, the trip from the airport to Sinhagad Fort should allow for some teams to get lost along the way. That will allow teams to space themselves out organically instead of the show forcing teams into staggered release times. But also since taxi races can be very fun, especially in India.

Also, great 4K UHD drone shots at the fort in the morning! Yes!

Needing to fill out this Pune Leg though, I decided to throw in a cricket Duel Duel. Cricket has certainly been done on TARPHDME before, but not in a Duel Duel, so hopefully this can go quickly and be very exciting. But I think the rules can be tweaked so it can be so.

Again, needing to fill out the Leg, I was reading up on Pune and saw that the National Film Archive of India is located in Pune. I think I had rewatched TAR17 shortly before putting together this Leg a while ago. So I immediately remembered the film Detour from Russia. It’s a good, tedious task and definitely needle in a haystack. Especially for only one team member instead of both. But I think this is a good fit here after the Duel Duel.

Next up at the Detour. We first have a good ol’ learn and perform task. Very straightforward, but maybe not as easy as teams might think.

But the highlight of this episode has to be the yoga side of the Detour. It is very much a recycled task from TAR Canada 3. But it’s really because of TARC3 that I wanted to included it on a future TARPH. Seeing teams hurl each other onto the cement was hilarious. So we hope to see that here too. It’s another tedious and maybe more difficult task.

Hopefully an equal number of teams choose each side of the Detour. We could make this Limited Stations, but we’ll just keep it regular for now.

We get an extra Route Marker before the Pit Stop just to allow for more chances for lost taxis and the like.

And this is a good spot for a Non-Elimination Leg.

Overall, a pretty good and full Leg in Pune!
