Recap: Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger, Episode 11 – The Filming Must Go On

Director Hilltop has Keiichiro, Tsukasa and Sakuya star in a movie about the GSPO to counter the popularity of the Lups with the public. Keiichiro and Tsukasa aren’t too excited about the idea, but Sakuya is and he is fired up about it. They can show off how awesome they are while also getting girls.

Over at Jurer, the Lups get their next target. A lot of suspicious injuries have occurred at Tokai movie studio and it’s likely because of the next Collection piece they need.

The Pats continue filming the movie, but the director thinks Sakuya lacks sex appeal. Just then, he starts glowing and turns into a woman. Literally. He grows boobs and loses his penis.

Keiichiro and Tsukasa reason that a Gangler has turned Sakuya into a woman. They want to stop filming and investigate, but the director insists on continuing. Sakuya agrees the show must go on. He dresses in women’s clothes and decides to go all out.

The director loves his… her sex appeal now.

Right before Sakuya can use his sex appeal to convince movieKeiichiro to allow them to come with, the Lups can’t help but laugh at them, exposing them lurking about in on the rafters.

The Lups morph and head outside. The Pats usher the movie crew back in the studio and morph themselves. Sakuya feels his suit is too tight on his huge boobs.

The Gangler, Pitch Cock, exposes himself and decides to switch Keiichiro and Tsukasa’s genders too. Keiichiro grows boobs and loses his penis, Tsukasa loses her boobs and grows a penis.

Before the Lups and Pats can attack Pitch Cock, he makes them slip on an imaginary banana peel before he disappears back into the studio.

The director and movie crew hurry back outside and the director is very excited to see the raging sex appeal of the new genders.

Keiichiro and Tsukasa change into their new gender-matching clothes. Sakuya continues to be positive about completing the film. But not for the reason they assume. Sakuya says he wants the world to see how cool his two sempais are.
When he was still a trainee, he looked up to Keiichiro and Tsukasa very much. But he himself was lacking and was ranked close to the bottom. He almost wanted to give up, but Keiichiro and Tsukasa had unknowingly helped him regain his resolve with their words of encouragement.

Soon, Sakuya was able to join his sempais on the same team.

“So you didn’t just join to get girls,” Tsukasa concludes. “No, there was that too,” Sakuya replies.

Anyway, the director returns with revised scripts that now fit with their new genders. Keiichiro and Tsukasa suspect the director may be the Gangler and decide to force him to expose himself while they resume filming.

Keiichiro is now Keiko, Sakuya is now Sakimi and Tsukasa is still Tsukasa. They’re dressed in gaudy clothes as they take on the fake Podamans. But the turn out to be real Podamans, including almost everyone on the crew except the director and cameraman.

The Pats morph and battle the Podamans. The director is the most excited he’s ever been during production. The Lups arrive and they and the Pats target the director as the Gangler.

The director denies being the Gangler. Sakuya says they are all wrong. It’s not the director. Pitch Cock is the cameraman.

Pitch Cock exposes himself and they all battle. But Pitch Cock uses the banana peel technique to have them all slip. The Lups find a way around that by swinging around in the air until Kairi gains access to Pitch Cock’s Collection piece.

Pitch Cock tries shooting at the Lups, but instead hits the Pats again and they turn back to their original genders.

The Lups disappear and the Pats get their chance to finish off Pitch Cock’s first life with a Keisatsu Boost.

Goche embiggens Pitch Cock. Good Striker appears and before he can decide who to team up with this week, Kairi grabs him. They form LupinKaiser and then LupinKaiser Knight. Pitch Cock shoots at scissors and they become a hammer, which is apparently a different gender from scissors.

The Lups finish off Pitch Cock for good and the hammer turns back into scissors.

Meanwhile, the director still wants the Pats to finish the movie. And they do.

Episode Thoughts

This was an okay episode. I had low expectations, so maybe that’s why.

But while it started off sketchy, it finished strong with that every nice moment of Sakuya saying how much he looked up to Keiichiro and Tsukasa. (Let’s ignore his wanting to merely get girls.) Also, I did wonder why it seemed too obvious the director was the Gangler, but the last minute Gotcha! was pretty good. And it was also good that it was Sakuya who figured it out.

Back to the beginning, I can’t help but think it was a little bit of a meta reference when they basically said the Pats need the movie to promote themselves since the Lups are the ones getting all the attention. Hmmm…

The sex change plot though has to be the craziest I’ve seen. Not even innuendos, just flat out “I have boobs!” “I’ve got a penis!” jokes. Even full on crotch and boob grabs. Uh, okay. That’s why I felt like the beginning was off since again, it made the Pats seem bufoonish and a joke. Aside from the other obvious problematic moments.

At least they made sure about the details to the suits by having the skirts on the appropriate gender. But hey! I guess we got another female Red, if only for a couple of minutes.

Still, the whole creepy director who wants more sex in the movie was very Harvey Weinstein-ish to be any bit funny.

Of course, the Pats are somehow incapacitated again for the mecha battle. But it was good that the Pats got their finisher in after the Lups obviously took what they needed and bolted.

Next week, I hope the episode gets me to sympathize or empathize with Tooma more than I have been.

But overall, an okay episode.

  1. This is what I’d say is the first genuinely bad episode. The whole gender-bend plot wasn’t funny, and it made the Patrangers look their most inept.

      1. I’m actually working on a possible adaptation for LvsP, and I abandon this plot entirely. Instead I have Kujak (my name for Pitch Cock) trap the Patranger equivalents in a deadly virtual simulation.
