Leg 14.04 – “My legs are going to fall off!”

TARPHDM14

For this 4th Leg of the Race, teams learn they must fly to Hanoi, Vietnam!

Teams must book their own flights from Seoul Incheon to Hanoi and will end up on one of four flights: Korean Air (arriving at 9:30pm), Asiana (9:50pm), Jeju Air (11:45pm) and Jin Air (11:50pm).

TARPHDM14

Once in Hanoi, teams must make their way to the Hanoi Opera House.

TARPHDM14

They must then search inside the opera house for their next clue.

TARPHDM14

That clue tells teams to take an early morning train to Ninh Binh, arriving at 8:19am.

TARPHDM14

Once in Ninh Binh, teams must search for their next clue at Tam Coc Wharf.

TARPHDM14

AND the Forced Double Yield Vote Board!

TARPHDM14

After voting, teams will rent bicycles which they will use throughout this Leg and first ride it to Bich Dong Temple.

TARPHDM14

At Bich Dong Temple, teams must look for a Travelocity Roaming Gnome who will accompany for the rest of the Leg.

The next clue at the temple will reveal the Detour: Sweep It Up or Scoop It Up.

TARPHDM14

In Sweep It Up, teams must find flagged homes and sweep up all the rice that has been drying on the road. They must fill sacks with the rice and then bring the sacks of rice inside the corresponding home according to the address printed on the sack to receive the next clue.

TARPHDM14

In Scoop It Up, teams must search nearby ponds to collect six dozen duck eggs. They must then herd 15 ducks into a marked pen to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM14

After the Detour, teams must continue down the road to find this flagged area.

TARPHDM14

They must first check in at the Yield Reveal Board before opening the next clue, the Road Block: Who’s feeling trapped?

TARPHDM14

For this Road Block, in a modified Switchback to season 1 of The Amazing Race Philippines: DryedMangoez Edition, teams must load a bicycle with large and small shrimp traps according to a provided example. They will then deliver the baskets to a nearby fisherman down the road, by bike, to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM14

This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg of the Race. After this 4th Road Block, if any team does not have an equal number of Road Block between teammates, the U-Turn or Yield will be activated on the next Leg.

TARPHDM14

After the Road Block, teams must continue on to Den Thai Vi – Ben Thanh.

TARPHDM14

Here, teams must gather and deliver specific prayer items downriver to a dragon boat team while rowing the boat using their feet as the locals do.

TARPHDM14

When they return to shore, they will be given the next clue.

TARPHDM14

And that clue directs teams to climb the more than 200 steps to reach the Pit Stop on Hang Mua Peak.

The first team to check in here with their Travelocity Roaming Gnome friend will win P100,000 for their charity AND a trip for 2 to any country they have visited or will visit on the Race. All courtesy of Travelocity Philippines!

The last team to check in here… WILL NOT be eliminated! This is the first Non-Elimination Leg of the Race and the last place team must now choose a Penalty Envelope:

“Director’s” Commentary

Hmm.. this Leg feels very familiar.

Well, that’s because it’s recycled from TAR29 of course! So TARPHDME of course started out as hypothetical routes for the real Amazing Race Philippines that is now dead and buried on TV5. And the purpose really is to imagine how regular ol’ Filipino people (or celebs and pseudo-celebs) would Race in these various locations. Including, naturally, recycled Legs considering any possible budget for a real TARPH.

This won’t be the last recycled Leg this season. Fair warning. Lol

But again, it would be great to see Filipino teams running these Legs from various international TARs.

This Ninh Binh Leg from TAR29 really was one of the best Legs in a long time. Incredibly physical and with stunning scenery to boot. Just great all around.

This TARPHDME version comes with tweaks of course. First, a little task in Hanoi to have teams doing something after arriving from Seoul and before heading to Ninh Binh.

The bikes from Tam Coc Wharf to Bich Dong Temple and the Travelocity Roaming Gnome are unchanged from the original Leg.

But the Speed Bump turns into one side of the Detour here. And the drying rice is a very typical task that should be good here. It’s also possible to make this a Limited Stations Detour so both tasks can be featured. And this is a Non-Elimination Leg anyway.

The rest of the Leg is also unchanged because it’s pretty great the way it is. Especially with the 9 teams Racing on it. Should be even more crazy and dramatic than TAR29! Woohoo!
