Leg 14.03 – “Please don’t cut my head off.”

TARPHDM14

Our 10 remaining celebrity teams set off on the 3rd Leg of the Race by opening the first clue telling them to make their way to the Naminara Republic.

TARPHDM14

Teams will have to figure out the Naminara Republic is actually Nami Island in Chuncheon.

TARPHDM14

Teams will drive a brand new 2018 Kia Niro to Gapyeong Wharf.

TARPHDM14

From here, they will take the zipline to Nami Island where they will search for their next clue.

TARPHDM14

That clue reveals the Detour: Traditional or Modern. For both Detours, teams must rent a two-person bicycle to reach every location.

TARPHDM14

In Traditional, teams must learn how to make traditional mulberry hanji dolls to complete an Amazing Race diorama. If approved by the local artist, teams will be given the next clue.

TARPHDM14

In Modern, teams will be given a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 which the will use to take photos of themselves recreating famous romantic scenes from Korean dramas filmed here on Nami Island. There will be seven scenes and locations along a path. Once they show their photos to a local actor who will approve them, they will receive the next clue.

TARPHDM14

After the Detour, teams must search the area on foot for the Blind Double U-Turn board. If activated.

TARPHDM14

After checking in, teams will also find the next clue directing them to Soyang Dam. From here, teams will hop on a boat to a fish farm to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM14

Here in the Soyang Reservoir, teams must sort different species of fish found in this man-made lake from a crate filled with the catch of the day.

TARPHDM14

Teams must then drive themselves to the Gongjicheon Sculpture Park in Chuncheon.

TARPHDM14

Here, teams must learn and perform a Korean kumdo routine to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM14

That clue points teams to the popular Dakgalbi Street where they will find the Road Block: Who’s up for a taste of Korea?

TARPHDM14

For this Road Block, teams must eat an entire family-sized serving of dakgalbi, or spicy stir-fry chicken, in five minutes. If they fail, they can try again or instead incur a two-hour penalty.

TARPHDM14

This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg. If anyone cannot keep their dakgalbi in their stomachs (read: If anyone vomits!), then the U-Turn or Yield will be activated on the next Leg.

TARPHDM14

After enjoying the delicious lunch teams can make their way to the Jade Garden, the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.

The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+. Half to their charities, half for them to do what they please.

The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

A very nice second Leg in Korea. I definitely think any future visit to Korea by any TAR should focus on outside of Seoul and even Busan. There are plenty of great towns and other cities across the peninsula that have yet to be touched by any Amazing Race season. But you can bet TARPHDME will be touching them a lot in the future! lol

Anyway, Nami Island has been another spot on my TAR wishlist for a while. I think there could be plenty of things to do other than the two tasks I have here for the Detour. I like this Detour though as it will both provide some opportunity to really highlight the stunning scenery. Those 4K UHD drone shots will be amazing of course.

I’m not sure though if I want to visit in the wintertime with the island full of snow or maybe spring/summer with full greens or the nice autumn colors. Maybe a visit for each!

With the Detour at the beginning of the Leg, it’s a good spot for a regular U-Turn.

To help fill out the Leg, the tasks at Soyang Dam, lake and river should be good. Especially with more 4K UHD drone opportunities.

I’ve had a kumdo task on the waiting list too for a while so I thought why not insert that here too. Though maybe I should’ve saved it for a later visit. I might not be able to scout well and find any tasks for future Korean Legs. Lol

And finally, since we’re in Chuncheon, the dakgalbi Road Block is great. TARPHDME hasn’t had many eating tasks. So this is as good a spot as any. The Trigger Point is kinda gross, but someone is sure to vomit, so yay U-Turn/Yield!

Overall, this is a great, full Leg! And with some Kia-sponsored self-driving, it should provide for more great TV.
