Leg 4A – How Can I Marry You if You Can’t Dance?

TARPHDM13

The fourth Leg of the Race begins as teams learn they’re heading to Tel Aviv, Israel!

Teams will be on one of two flights via Beijing arriving at either 3:10am or 7:10am.

TARPHDM13

Once in Tel Aviv, teams must make their way to Jerusalem Beach.

TARPHDM13

Here, teams must check-in at the Forced Double U-Turn Vote Board (powered by Samsung and sponsored by Smart) to check if it has been activated. If it has, ALL teams MUST vote for TWO teams to be U-Turned.

After checking in, teams will find their next clue which reveals a Duel Duel! It has an Hours of Operation! of 7am.

TARPHDM13

For this Duel Duel, teams will play Israel’s national beach sport, matkot. Team members must hit the ball back and forth without dropping it. They will face off against another team and the team with the longer rally of at least 15 in a best of 3 match will receive the next clue. The losing team will go to the back of the line. If neither team can win 2 out of 3 by way of failing to rally to 15, both teams must go to the back of the line.

TARPHDM13

After the Duel Duel, teams must make their way to Jaffa Port.

TARPHDM13

Teams will be given a list of restaurants and traditional Jewish dishes. Armed with two large trays, teams must collect the correct dishes from each restaurant in Jaffa’s old city, on foot and through cobblestoned alleyways.

They must then deliver the trays to Hapisga Garden to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM13

Teams can now head to the Jaffa Clock Tower. That clue reveals the Detour: Horah or Chuppah.

TARPHDM13

In Horah, teams must head directly to Charles Clore Park and learn a fast-paced, modern version of the Israeli Horah which they must then perform with a group of young dancers. There are two parts to this performance. The first will be performed with the group of dancers in a traditional circle and the second will have teams perform a routine on their own. Once they get the thumbs up, teams will receive the next clue.

In Chuppah, teams must collect supplies needed to build a traditional chuppah or wedding canopy at Jaffa Flea Market. They must then bring the supplies to Charles Clore Park where they will correctly assemble the canopy to receive their next clue.

TARPHDM13

After the Detour, teams must search the park for the Forced Double U-Turn Reveal Board (powered by Samsung and sponsored by Smart) if activated.

TARPHDM13

And after checking in, teams can head to the Pit Stop, Design Museum Holon.

The first team to check-in here will win only P100,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+…

…because this is Leg is NOT OVER! This is a SUPERLEG and teams are still Racing!

“Director’s” Commentary

Israel is one of those locations that feels so “exotic” to TAR since it’s rarely visited for whatever reason. And that’s even when Israel has its own Amazing Race. But TARPHDME has visited many atypical TAR countries before. Some groundbreaking locations too! Woohoo!

lol Anyway, I think this will be a very interesting Leg. It might be a little short on paper, but each task I think could provide lots of competition and drama.

First, we must somehow ensure the U-Turn is activated on this Leg. That goes back to the Trigger Point in the last Leg at the Road Block. So we have to ensure teams fail that Road Block easily. Hehe. The Forced Double U-Turn is fine for a SuperLeg or Non Elimination. Teams also knowing that two teams will be U-Turned might make them change their strategies during both the extra Route Marker and the Detour.

First up, after an Hours of Operation, the Duel Duel is in a good spot. It’s a simple task which popped up on TARAu. But it helps the logistics in this Leg. And it could add some extra drama between teams. Also gratuitous skin. lol

The Jaffa Port task allows to use a beautiful, interesting location to the fullest. Having teams walking around the area should be great. The task is inspired by TAR27’s similar task, but made more difficult hopefully.

Making your way on foot is always a nice extra task to exhaust the teams.

And finally the Detour is a good choice between cultural Israeli tasks. And both are pretty familiar aspects of Israeli tradition. The Horah is well-known, but this task should be more challenging than just learning a simple dance. And the Chuppah should be more physical and time consuming.

Great spot for a U-Turn with both tasks.

And finally, the Design Museum Holon looks like an interesting location for the Pit Stop, especially as a contrast to the more traditional locations earlier in the Leg.

Overall a good half of a SuperLeg!
