Leg 12.10 – “I’m so high right now!”

TARPHDM12

They’re almost home! But first, the Race continues in Nepal. This time, teams will be flying to Pokhara!

Teams will depart the Pit Stop before sunrise and must head to the airport to secure tickets on any available flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Flights depart at 8:30am, 9am and 10:20am.

TARPHDM12

Once in Pokara, teams must make their way to SOS Children’s Village.

Twelve seasons ago on the very first Amazing Race Philippines DryedMangoez Edition, teams visited the SOS Children’s Village Pokhara and delivered boxes of supplies. Today, the children will be giving teams Thank You cards and show them where all the TARPHDME1 gifts have gone to use. Teams will have the option of donating their money to the village before receiving their next clue.

TARPHDM12

Teams must now head to Highground Adventures.

TARPHDM12

Here, teams will ride the Zipflyer zipline. While enjoying the Himalayan view, teams must also keep an eye out below for their cluebox. Once they reach the end of the zipline, teams must figure out a way to make their way on foot to that cluebox. If they can’t see the cluebox, they must go on the zipline again.

The next clue reveals the Detour: Hay There or Water Here. Both of these Detours will get teams acquainted with daily life on Sarangkot.

TARPHDM12

In Hay There, teams must chop and gather bundles of hay from the fields and collect enough to fill large bins at this farm.

TARPHDM12

In Water Here, teams must fill water jugs from a communal well and deliver them to nearby homes using a small wooden wagon.

This Detour also contains the Hazard for the Non-Eliminated team on the last Leg. That team must do an extra bin of hay or deliver to extra homes, depending on which Detour they choose.

TARPHDM12

After the Detour, teams must make their way to Purna Yoga Retreat Centre where they will find the Road Block: Who has a good ear for healing?

TARPHDM12

In this Road Block, teams must master Tibetan singing bowls by learning and performing a specific healing and meditation sound massage. Once they pass, they will be given the next clue.

TARPHDM12

Teams must now make the trek up to the World Peace Pagoda for the next clue.

TARPHDM12

And that clue directs teams to Phewa Lake.

TARPHDM12

Here, teams must row a canoe to the Pit Stop:

Tal Barahi Temple.

The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

A visit to Nepal of course should always be two Legs. There’s just so much to see and do in Nepal. That’s why I’m kinda disappointed this Leg is Pokhara again after TARPHDM1 instead of another part of the country.

That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do in Pokhara though. And only half of the original TARPHDM1 Leg took place in Pokhara. So I still think this is a solid Leg. One more task would make it really great I think. And of course better tasks would be possible with a nice little scouting visit.

But for what we have, it’s alright.

First, the Children’s Village Route Marker is a nice little callback to the first visit here. It would be very interesting to see how much has changed since the first season (which, in our wildest dreams, would have taken place 12 years ago lol).

Also in that first season, the paragliding and ultralight plane Double Road Block was very stunning. And it was a great travel porn-y way to show off the Himalayas. Compared to that, this zipline is kind of tame. To counter that, we add that “look for the cluebox” part of the task. Really though, the most difficult part of this task is the trek through hills and rock and creeks from the zipline end to the cluebox somewhere in the forest or something. That would be very interesting.

We haven’t really had farming tasks this season, so this is a good place to have the Detour. It also shows the quieter, less touristy side of Nepal as well. More local and intimate. But again, DELIVERY TASK!!! AHHH!

The Tibetan singing bowls would make for a good Road Block. Definitely a different and fresh task.

The World Peace Pagoda is just an extra Route Marker. And apparently it can involve a little hike, so that’s another challenge for teams. It’s also a repeat Route Marker, but that’s okay.

And finally the rowing to the Pit Stop at Phewa Lake is a good final task for the Leg. Just to help fill it out as well.

Overall, a solid Pokhara Leg.
