Leg 3 – “Rub it all over my body.”

It’s a beautiful afternoon in Amman, Jordan as 10 teams set off on the third Leg.

And to start this Leg, teams must make their way to the Amman Citadel where they will search on foot for flagged supplies. Teams will take the supplies with them as they board charter buses for a mystery destination. Each charter bus will leave as soon as there are four teams onboard.

Teams will find out the mystery destination is the stunning landscape of Wadi Rum.

Teams must now use the supplies they brought with them to assemble a tent to sleep in overnight at this Bedouin camp. Once teams have successfully assembled their tent, they will be given a departure time for the next morning. Two teams will depart every five minutes starting at 5am.

And at 5am, teams will choose a brand new 2017 all-wheel drive Kia Sportage so they can drive themselves to…

The historic city of Petra.

Once here, teams must make their way on foot to The Treasury to find their next clue.

And that clue reveals the Detour: Camel Care or Steady Hands.

In Camel Care, teams must clean and care for a traditional camel transport while also assembling and attaching it to its cart. Once approved by a doctor from the Princess Alia Clinic and assuring the camel is well taken care of, teams will receive their next clue.

In Steady Hands, each team member must make sand art in a bottle, a favorite souvenir here in Petra. Once their souvenirs are approved by the artist, teams will be given their next clue.

After the Detour, teams must search the area on foot for a marked dig site where they must dig to find some ancient scrolls. Once they’ve found two corresponding scrolls, marked by identical seals, teams will be given the next clue by the archaeologist.

Teams can return to their all new, top of the line 2017 Kia Sportages and drive themselves almost 200 kilometers to Amman Beach on the Dead Sea.

And here, teams will find the Road Block: Who’s a floater?

For this Road Block, teams must first put mineral-rich Dead Sea mud on each other (including the non-Road Block-completing teammate).

The Road Block participant must then float in the Dead Sea while translating the Petra scrolls they just unearthed. Once they’ve translated the scrolls, which tell of the baptism of Jesus Christ, they will receive the next clue.

And that clue points them to the location of the baptism of Jesus Christ, Al-Maghtas.

The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

The last team to check-in here WILL be eliminated.

”Director’s” Commentary

This Leg is definitely a more touristy/historical-ish Leg. Jordan is definitely known for its historical significance, so since we’ve made the trip all the way here, a 2nd Leg is a no-brainer.

Wadi Rum is a must visit of course. The bus at the beginning of the Leg is just to make up for the long distance. It’s definitely an equalizer. But having the teams drive from Amman to Wadi Rum is certainly a possibility as well, just to add another challenge and fill out the Leg. I like the Leg as it is, but self-driving such a long distance would be fine as well, I think.

Besides, teams will be sleeping at the Bedouin camp overnight anyway, so a long afternoon drive shouldn’t be a problem for the rest of the Leg.

The picking up supplies is a simple task. And the tent assembly is also a typical TAR task, but an extra task to help fill out the Leg. It also does the “morning departure time” thing, but it won’t really matter since teams will be departing no more than 25 minutes apart.

Another reason for the overnight and early, before dawn departure is to get teams to Petra at sunrise. It’s apparently the best time to visit since there aren’t many tourists yet. So that’s definitely the perfect time to be filming of course.

There must be lots of possible tasks at Petra. But I’m fine with the Detour I have. With the camels, I did read that they and the other public transportation animals like donkeys, are not well cared for. So this task will help that and there’s an organization at Petra that ensures the animals are taken care of and not mistreated. The sand art Detour is pretty good as well. I have no idea if I’d even be able to do it, so that means it’d be a great task for teams to struggle through. Hehe.

Again, to maximize our time in Petra, which will be filmed of course with amazing 4K UHD drone footage, the archaeological digging will be another great task. Not sure if the whole area is protected or something, to prevent digging and the like. But hopefully there’d be an area where we can set up such a task that won’t affect the historical sites.

I read that there’s a lot of walking involved when exploring Petra. So it would be good to have tasks that require teams to walk around. Again, to maximize our time there. But also to tire them out, of course. Our time at Petra could easily reach noontime even if teams arrived at 6 or 7am. And with possible high temperatures? That would be awesome!

So we’re at the Dead Sea. OF COURSE, we do something with the Dead Sea scrolls! We combine that with the very touristy activity of floating in the Dead Sea covered in mud. Looks interestingly hilarious on paper, having teams floating while trying to translate and write out words and stuff. Don’t know if it would work, but again, a difficult, nearly-impossible challenge is a GOOD challenge on the Race.

And to complete the Leg, a visit to the site of Jesus Christ’s baptism is a great way to finish. The Catholic fans in the Philippines will definitely appreciate that.

Overall, a very exciting Leg if all goes according to plan. And having 10 teams Racing on it should make for exciting episodes.
