Leg 2 – “I don’t know what smells worse; you or this poo.”

Teams set off on the 2nd Leg of the Race by flying to Vientiane, Laos!

Teams will need to secure their own tickets, but really they will be flying on one of two flights: Direct on Vietnam Airlines arriving at 11:05am and Lao Airlines via Luang Prabang, Laos arriving at 1:50pm.

At Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, teams will immediately find their cluebox. And that clue reveals an Intersection!

Teams will be Intersected until further notice. And for now, the two Intersected teams must choose a marked songthaew. They will direct their driver to take them to the Khok Saath Salt Village for their next clue.

And the next clue reveals a Road Block: Who’s feeling salty?” Each team must choose who will perform the task, but they will be completing it with an Intersected teammate.

For this Road Block, teams will help prepare two salt pans.

First, they must fill a pan with saltwater using a hose.

They must then fill the furnace with large logs and light the fire.

Once they’ve prepared the two pans, they must harvest all the salt from an adjacent pan into baskets and transport them to a storage area next to the salt ponds to receive their next clue.

After completing the Road Block, teams are no longer Intersected.

But the next clue reveals another Road Block! Who wants to get their fill? There is no restriction as to who performs this Road Block.

For this Road Block, teams must choose a marked home and collect enough cow dung to fill a sack. They will then deliver it to the store by bike to receive their next clue and money for the dung which they can keep and use on the Race.

Teams must now find a marked field nearby where local cattle are freely grazing. Teams will need to find all the cattle belonging to the family whose pens they’ve cleaned at the Road Block and herd them home.

Once they have all animals safely back, they must retrieve the bicycle used at the Road Block and find its matching pair. The matching bicycle, however, needs repair.

Once the teams have found the problem and fixed it, they can ride both bikes to the Pit Stop at this Temple.

The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

The last team to check-in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

The KBS variety show Brave Family was very fun. The show had celebrities living as a family in a foreign country for a week. Their first visit was to the Tonle Sap in Cambodia. And while TARPHDME visited the Tonle Sap on season 2, the Brave Family inspired a brand new FULL Leg in the river community for season 5.

And now, the second Brave Family visit to Laos (which you can watch for free on YouTube) has inspired another TARPHDME Leg even though Vientiane was also visited just a few seasons ago. =)

This Leg also completely takes place within a community instead of a wide metro area. It will also be a very physical Leg which hopefully also includes plenty of interaction with the locals.

The Intersection is just a twist to throw in, but also a little bit of logistics since I don’t know if there are even 11/22 salt pans enough for all the teams. But the Intersection also forces teams to work together in a way that doesn’t destroy the integrity of the Race and still requires teams to actually work instead of wait for help or answers.

Teams working together on the 2nd Leg, maybe before any have gotten to know each other or made alliances (ewe!) should make for interesting television as well.

The saltpan preparation and then transporting to the storage is very physical, backbreaking work. So it should be great to watch the teams go through it.

There is no Detour on this Leg, but it is also possible to make the cow dung collecting and the cattle herding a Detour choice. Both tasks though are great and should also provide some fun, exciting moments.

The bike repair is just another extra task for this Detour-less Leg. And I’m not sure the “Temple” exists because they never really explained what it was on Brave Family. But if it’s a nice courtyard area, then Pit Stop it is!

This could be a great physical Leg with lots of drama and hopefully lots of meltdowns!
