Wajima, Shunpei and Kosuke are going crazy over the hottest new model, Chiaki. Koyomi just shakes her head.
Meanwhile, Haruto and Rinko head over to the National Security Bureau after getting a call from Kizaki. He shows them pictures of the man who gave Department 0 the magic stone before… it’s Sora.
Speaking of, Sora is on a rooftop intently watching the people below when Medusa arrives with Phantom Argos and the identity of a new Gate. Sora calls Argos by his Gate’s name (which he doesn’t like) while reiterating that he doesn’t want to be called Gremlin.
He skips off as Argos poses the question, Why does he call Phantoms by their Gates’ names?
Haruto and Rinko are sitting in her cop car wondering why Kizaki asked for their help all of a sudden. Rinko thinks it’s great that he trusts them now, but Haruto says he’s just using them.
While Shunpei and Kosuke are arguing over Chiaki’s best quality, Argos pops up nearby to attack the Gate… Chiaki. Kosuke henshins and they fight, but Argos flashes a bright light at him and manages to escape.
Kosuke de-henshins, as does Chiaki who takes her sunglasses and hat off to reveal herself to a shocked and happy Kosuke and Shunpei.
Across town, Haruto and Rinko investigate Sora’s past. He was a beautician and his former boss says he was a cheerful guy who loved his pranks. Like popping up behind people and saying “Heellloo!”
The boss wonders if Sora’s working at another salon because many of his customers have stopped coming here.
Kosuke and Shunpei have brought Chiaki to the shop, along with her manager who thanks them. He suggests she cancel her jobs today, but she doesn’t want to. Instead, Kosuke offers to be her bodyguard and he and Shunpei follow them out.
Donut cart owner and worker offer Haruto and Rinko a new Children’s Day donut, but they seem more uninterested than usual. They assume it’s because they just broke up, so they leave them alone.
Haruto points out how Gremlin is different from other Phantoms. Unlike Medusa or Phoenix, Gremlin’s personality is exactly like his Gate’s.
After Haruto grabs his donut, he and Rinko head to Sora’s old apartment for more investigating.
At Chiaki’s photoshoot, Kosuke and Shunpei get a rude awakening to her real personality. Instead of the sweet girl next door, she’s a diva, cocky workaholic. They hurry to the next location. Outside, Argos attacks the photographer while Kosuke’s had enough of Chiaki’s attitude. She runs out of the dressing room.
Sora jumps onto the hood of Rinko’s car with a cheery “Hello!” They head to a playground where they ask Sora about why he would give humans a magic stone (“I figured you guys needed it.”) and why he is pretending to be his Gate.
I’m not pretending, he says. It shouldn’t be surprising there are some Phantoms who keep their human heart. He’s checked others, but he’s the only who has done so. He didn’t choose this, which is maybe why he and Haruto are similar. Neither Phantom nor human, maybe they could get along.
Don’t lump you two together, Rinko protests. Okay, Sora replies, they’ll just have to have fun playing together in the future.
Chiaki looks at herself in the mirror. She’s made it this far, she’s got to let people know her by this form. The photographer pops up, Argos, and says he’s excited to get today’s shoot going.
Rinko asks Haruto if he believes what Sora said. I don’t know, he answers. Just then, he gets a call from Shunpei telling him they’ve lost the Gate they were protecting. Haruto hurries to meet them while Rinko says she’ll continuing the Sora investigation on her own.
Argos, still as the photographer, takes Chiaki to the dam where he takes a couple of pictures before revealing his true intentions, and form. He is going to drive her to despair by tearing her face and hair apart. But Kosuke arrives to hold him off a little. Argos soon gains the upper hand as Haruto arrives and henshins.
Sora happily watches from afar, but he suddenly has a strange flashback when he sees the back of Chiaki’s head. Argos easily pushes Haruto and Kosuke back as he summons some Ghouls.
He turns his attention to Chiaki, but surprisingly, Sora jumps in between Argos’ sword and her face.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you,” Sora tells Chiaki as he turns his attention to Argos. They spar until Argos hurls Sora across the railing and down into the water.
Haruto remembers what Sora said earlier about not choosing keeping his human heart and decides to jump into the water to save him. Chiaki faints, Kosuke sees if she’s okay and wonders just what Haruto is doing.
Episode Thoughts
Yes! Finally! I’ve definitely been looking forward to seeing Sora’s backstory and I guess we’re going to be getting it!
The idea that he’s not all Phantom or whatever, is very interesting. Maybe that’ll have something to do with Koyomi’s past and what she is exactly too.
I really enjoyed those scenes on the damn. They used some very fancy camera work there.
Overall a great episode and I am definitely excited to see what happens next.
