Recap: Kamen Rider Wizard, Episode 25 – Life Choices

Wizard 25

Everyone’s back at the shop, trying to figure out what to do next. Haruto realizes Granny offered herself up to become a Phantom to be food for Kosuke and Chimera. Kosuke explodes, are you an idiot!? Why would you do that!?

Wizard 25

Kosuke then remembers he had Griffon, his familiar, hop into Shunpei’s backpack earlier. They know where he is. Granny asks Kosuke to take her, but Haruto assures her he will save Shunpei and for her to just stay here.

Wizard 25

Kosuke goes to the pier to think and realizes all those times Granny was telling him not do stuff, she was only looking out for him. She wasn’t a strict hardass, she was only being a caring and loving grandmother.

Wizard 25

Haruto and Rinko head to the Bird Bowl with a plan. Shunpei is awake, but chained up as he sees the charm Granny gave him.

Wizard 25 Wizard 25

Haruto and Rinko think they’ve found them, but instead, they find Medusa waiting for them and Griffon all chained up too. They’ve been tricked! Shunpei and Weretiger are at a different location.

Haruto henshins and tells Rinko to leave. He and Medusa fight a little before he goes Land Dragon.

Wizard 25

They continue to spar when Sora arrives. He tosses Shunpei’s backpack over and giggles that Haruto isn’t going to pull a fast one on him. He says to make sure and bring the Gate to the old scrapyard tomorrow.

He hops along and Medusa follows, wanting to talk.

Wizard 25

Back at the shop, Granny is folding another charm when Kosuke knocks on the door. He tells Granny they should go back to Fukui together, but she says that’s the last thing she wants to hear. Kosuke says he finally understands that she has only wanted to care for him and if he loses her now, “I will fall to despair.”

“You little fool…”

Wizard 25

She gets up to hug him and tells him not to give up. She hands him the charm she just finished.

Wizard 25

Across town, Medusa angrily meets with Sora and demands to know why he merely used her earlier. He giggles and says he just thought they could defeat the mage easier.

Wizard 25

Haruto, Rinko, Koyomi and Wajima are trying to figure out a plan for tomorrow, but Kosuke and Granny come downstairs and say this isn’t the time to be indecisive. They better just go. Granny too.

Wizard 25 Wizard 25

Next morning, Kosuke and Granny arrive at the scrapyard. Shunpei begs Kosuke not to exchange Granny for him, but Kosuke just tells Shunpei to shut up. Sora asks, before they swap, how about tossing over the belt? Kosuke obliges.

Wizard 25

Weretiger lets Shunpei go and pushes him towards Granny who approaches the Phantoms. Shunpei begs her to run with him, but Sora pushes him aside and grabs hold of Granny.

Wizard 25 Wizard 25

I’ll grant your wish, Sora says to Granny. And that’s to drive her to despair… by killing her grandson. Weretiger sends Koiciexplosions towards Kosuke, then strikes him with his sword. But Kosuke suddenly disintegrates into feathers.

Wizard 25

That gives Haruto the opportunity to pop out of the ground, take shots at both Sora and Weretiger, get Granny out of Sora’s hands and break the chains on Shunpei. The feathers also return Kosuke to his regular human form.

But how!? Haruto explains he used his belt to cast a spell on Kosuke. And now it’s time to get revenge for yesterday’s trickery.

Wizard 25

Haruto and Kosuke henshin. Haruto takes on Sora while Kosuke takes care of Weretiger before switching.

Haruto goes Flame Dragon and uses Drago Timer and summons the other three Dragon forms to take on Weretiger while Sora retreats.

Haruto gives way to Kosuke who finishes Weretiger off himself.

Wizard 25

Back at the shop, Haruto, Rinko, Shunpei, Koyomi and Wajima are folding origami while Kosuke sees his Granny off.

He tells her not to worry and shows her the two charms she made for him, the one from last night and the other from when he was a kid.

Wizard 25

Episode Thoughts
Well thanks Wizard for making me cry with all the Kosuke-Granny scenes. They were very effective and it was great to see a different side of Kosuke,

Definitely interested in seeing more Medusa vs. Sora. And it looks like next week, we might get a peek at Medusa’s pre-Phantom self, Misa. I hope so.

An overall solid episode with Kosuke and Granny as the highlights. It needed a little more Shunpei though.

  1. As you can probably guess from my comment to the previous episode, I do not share your opinion about this episode. For me it was another example of how hastily patched on and idiotic Kosuke is. The guy is in his early 20s now… well the actor is no idea how old Kosuke is and he only figured out now that his grandma was meaning well and looked out for him, for pretty good reasons based on the flashbacks. For me that doesn’t say good episode it says “Kosuke is a self-centered idiot” as a matter of fact I do not get how a person of such moral integrity and iron will like granny could have a grandson like him who is barely more than a 2nd grade clown.
Sadly looking back I would say that this is sort of the turning point when the show refuses to actually develop its characters and keep them stationary. You see it especially with Medusa’s powers. Not only do we have no idea how she can detect Gates or Koyomi phantoms but we also don’t know why she doesn’t use her petrifying powers more often, they seem pretty powerful. Also we now, and in other cases, can see that Haruto can cast spells on others as well, so why doesn’t he use that more often?

For me the only highlight of this episode was Sora and seeing where his scheemes let him to be. The rest was at best average.

    1. I see what you’re saying with Kosuke. I guess I give any complaints I have about him a pass since I know there will also be flimsy, paper-thin characters on toku shows.
