Recap: Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, Mission 50 – Eternal Bonds

Go-Busters 50

The Go-Busters are fine, but separated. They decide to meet up at Jin’s hangar, but Enter has other plans. He fires at Hiromu, Yoko, Nick and Usada.

Go-Busters 50

Enter says they should return to the real world, but Hiromu tells him only after he is defeated. Then I’ll just have to do it by force, Enter replies as he henshins. Hiromu and Yoko do the same and into Powered Custom.

Go-Busters 50

Jin says he’ll go on ahead to the hangar and tells Ryuji to make sure to bring the others. J’s already at the hangar and looks on at Jin’s body.

Enter tosses Hiromu and Yoko around, continuing to use their own attacks against them before Ryuji and Gorisaki arrive to help Hiromu and Yoko escape.

Go-Busters 50

Back at the EMC command center, Morishita gives an update on the city; the cocoons stopped activity as soon as Enter was teleported, but the humans are still fused with them. Nakamura worriedly prays the others make it back safely.

The Go-Busters and Buddyroids arrive at Jin’s hangar and see Jin’s physical body for the first time… or what’s left of it.

Jin cuts right to the chase. They will transfer the backup card from Hiromu to Jin’s body. Simple. Jin’s data on the card will be attracted to the remaining data of Jin’s physical body, sort of like magnetism.

Go-Busters 50

The others are worried about what’ll happen to Jin, but he says he’ll be fine.

He’s lying, J bursts. Despite Jin’s insistence not to say anything, J explains putting the card in Jin will make him split apart. There’s no way Jin’s fragile body would be able to handle such a large amount of data being transferred, causing him to eventually split apart and scatter.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

The Go-Busters and Buddyroids are all against it. Hiromu says they’ll think of another way and they turn to go find it before Jin explodes.

“YOU DUMBASSES!”

Jin asks them if this is the limit to their resolve. Don’t they remember what will happen to the world if they don’t do this?

They hear Enter and an army of Buglars arriving at the hangar.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

This is no time to be indecisive, Jin says as they all begin to get emotional. He goes to Hiromu, Ryuji and Yoko and the Buddyroids one by one and tries to get them to realize this is what they have to do, otherwise the sacrifices they and their families have made as well as the future of the Earth will end up amounting to nothing.

He turns to J last, who hasn’t taken his gaze off of Jin’s physical body and a black Jenga block. The world is an interesting place, Jin says, that’s why they must do everything they can to protect it… together.

Go-Busters 50

Hiromu goes to Jin and grabs on his jacket before crying into his chest. Let’s do this, Hiromu says. Ryuji rallies everyone else, they wipe away their tears and head to fight off Enter and the Buglars.

Go-Busters 50

J clutches the black Jenga block as they henshin into Powered Custom and charge towards the army of Buglars.

Go-Busters 50

Meanwhile, Jin initiates the transferring process. He tells Hiromu he’ll be turned into data momentarily to allow the card data to transfer.

The others finish off the Buglars and turn their attention to Enter. Enter knocks Ryuji, Yoko and Nick aside. It’s Enter vs. J and with Jin’s words repeating in his mind, J gives it all he’s got to push back against Enter.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

The card has transferred to Jin’s physical body and as soon as it does, both the card and the body explode. Kuroki feels it.

Go-Busters 50

“I’m glad I had these extra 13 years to live,” Jin says.

Go-Busters 50

Enter begins feeling the absence of the backup as Nick in bike mode tells J to hop on. They knock Enter back out into the open as he de-henshins.

Go-Busters 50

Hiromu is back in his solid state as Jin says he can use “this body” a little longer.

An enraged Enter watches the Go-Busters walk out of the building. Hiromu tells Enter the backup is all gone.

Go-Busters 50

It’s okay, they still can’t afford to defeat him because Jin’s data is still inside him. That’s his trump card.

No, Jin says. His data is all gone, he won’t be needing that little sliver of data in Enter anymore.

Go-Busters 50

It’s still okay, Enter says, as long as he defeats them, he won’t need that backup. He transforms into his Enter Unite form and hops into his Megazord.

The Go-Busters henshin and hop into their Megazord as well and they battle with Enter.

Go-Busters 50

Enter has them pinned to a rock face before Lioh arrives to allow them to separate into Go-Buster Ace, Go-Buster Lioh and Buster Hercules.

Hiromu tells Nick they need to use a new attack Enter does not have data on. They focus their Enetron into their legs, allowing for a surprise attack on Enter’s Megazord and opening the door for the others to finish it off.

“Zut!”

Go-Busters 50

Enter gets thrown back down to the ground.

The Go-Busters have their final roll call and a final “Busters, Ready? Go!” before charging towards Enter.

But Enter still has the upper hand. He puts Ryuji into a head lock before kneeing his helmet, causing the visor to shatter. Enter sends a wave towards Yoko, shattering her visor as well before hurling an even bigger blast towards them, shattering Hiromu’s visor as well as ripping holes on all their suits.

Go-Busters 50

Hiromu gets up and speeds toward Enter. But Hiromu’s dagger goes flying and Enter pokes his sword into Hiromu’s chest.

Go-Busters 50

You’ve surpassed normal humans, Enter says. But in the end, you’re still imperfect, only human.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

But that’s exactly what makes them human, Hiromu replies. Because they aren’t perfect, they rely on and help each other. They entrust others with their lives and their wishes. Humans are connected without needing backups.

That’s what makes Enter, who’s sacrificed his comrades, completely different from humans.

Enter hurls Hiromu away from him and says enough, everyone must disappear. Let’s settle this, Enter says.

“It’s time for Buster.”

Go-Busters 50

Hiromu activates his final attack. Ryuji and Yoko put their hands on Hiromu’s shoulders, Jin and J on Ryuji and Yoko’s. They’ll do it together and give it all they’ve got.

Go-Busters 50

Volcanick All Busters Attack!

The Go-Busters and Enter lunge at each other.

Go-Busters 50

Enter lands on the other side. His avatar fizzles.

“C’est la vie. Adieu, Go-Busters.”

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

He explodes. The scattering of data adds to the increasingly unstable Subdimension and causes the Buddyroids to separate out of Powered Custom. The Go-Busters fall to the ground, helmetless. Everyone’s exhausted, but relieved that they’ve finally done it.

Go-Busters 50

“No regrets,” J says.

Go-Busters 50

Hiromu tells the others he’s glad they were his comrades. Ryuji agrees. Yoko expresses her gratitude.

Go-Busters 50

They close their eyes as the Subdimension begins to completely collapses in on them. Suddenly, Jin and Hiromu’s father appear. It’s too early for them to die, they say. They need to look forward. Wake up!

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

Wake up, Morishita says. The cocoons have been shut down and the fused humans have been freed. Kuroki realizes that means Enter must have been eliminated.

Go-Busters 50

But Nakamura confirms that that means the Subdimension has completely collapsed. She doesn’t detect anything.

Suddenly, they get a call.

It’s the Go-Busters. They’re alright and have made it back safely. Morishita and Nakamura hurry out of the command center.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

Kuroki takes a huge sigh of relief. He then sees Jin sitting at the table. He puts up a piece sign and disappears. Kuroki smiles and joins Morishita and Nakamura to meet the Go-Busters.

They salute each other before hugging.

Go-Busters 50 Go-Busters 50

Morishita and Nakamura are helping set up the shot of Yoko and Usada as Kuroki gets ready to take a picture. It’s Yoko’s first day of high school. Kuroki tells Nakamura to start the countdown before he takes the picture.

Go-Busters 50

At an EMC lab, Gorisaki frantically tells Ryuji they’re late for Yoko’s party.

Go-Busters 50

J’s in the woods, sweeping up. He has a nametag, “Forest Overseer.” He takes a seat on the ground and looks at the black Jenga block which he’s made into a necklace.

Go-Busters 50

They’ve all made it to the party and toast Yoko getting into high school. Hiromu is about to take a bite of his food when Nick stops him to tell him it’s chicken.

He freezes up, but Rika slaps him upside the head. He snaps out of it.

Drunk Kuroki and J hug.

Go-Busters 50

Later, Hiromu and Nick are by the sea as the sun sets. So what’s next, Nick asks. He doesn’t know yet, but Hiromu says he has 13 years to catch up on.

Alright, I’ll be right there with you, Nick says before they drive off into the sunset.

Go-Busters 50

Episode Thoughts
I’ll have a full Hindsight Review in a little bit, so no reminiscing yet.

Now I’ll start off saying, I actually think compared to the other two “finales” Go-Busters has had, this one kind of felt a little less… I don’t know. Epic? Exciting? Emotional?

That’s not to say it wasn’t epic, exciting and emotional, because it certainly was. But I feel like the Messiah shutdowns had a much loftier presence, much more heft and kick. And really, Go-Busters was going to have a tough time doing that a 3rd time.

But the finale still delivered. And I still ended up crying in the end. I was pretty much tearing up right at the start again. I started choking during Jin’s speech to the others, especially when Hiromu cries into Jin’s chest. And I was pretty much bawling when the Go-Busters just laid there, thanked each other and waited to die.

Goddamnit. I never use the oft-thrown around term, “feels,” but I think that moment definitely warrants the use of the word. MaGMCMs all over the place.

The climaxes they’ve already had, the years and years leading up to this moment and at the top of everything else, the death of their families, none of it was in vain since they completed their ultimate mission. It was a touching and dramatic scene.

The appearance of Jin and Hiromu’s dad and their eventual call to the command center could’ve been eased in to a little better, but it didn’t take away from the gravity of the moment.

I think many expected Jin to die in the end. His line saying he was thankful to have gotten to live an extra 13 years was striking and definitely showed how long this journey has been for everyone.

Enter’s final stand and the realization that no matter how much data he collected, he could never be perfect, or even better than humans led in nicely to him pretty much accepting of his defeat. He was going all-in, just like the Go-Busters were. And while he failed, it was interesting and refreshing to see him go down bidding the Go-Busters “Adieu” instead of doing the usual cursing or vowing to return that many big bads usually do.

And leave it to Go-Busters to cap it all off with more hilarity. Rika literally knocking Hiromu out of his chicken freeze, Nakamura’s countdowns, and the more than logical drinking buddies in J and Kuroki, it was a great epilogue.

Hiromu and Nick heading off into the sunset was a nice symbolic touch, but I actually just realized how much that ending reminds me of Power Rangers Mystic Force as Nick (!) rides off into the sunset with his parents.

Overall, coupled with last week’s episode, it was a great finale to a great series. However, I’m anxious to see if there’ll be a Director’s Cut version of it because I feel like there were a few missing scenes that might’ve made the finale a little more complete.

But, that’s minor. Go-Busters ended on a very high note. And it’s definitely been an amazing year.

  1. In go busters vs kyoryuger Hiromu froze when Torin introduced himself it made me laugh what’s funny is that Hiromu eats chicken but he freazes at the word

  2. Just found your blog, and love your insights. Go-Busters was definitely underrated, and is currently my favorite Sentai series. In this episode, I feel I should point out that it wasn’t the Go-Busters that destroyed the Buglers, it was Enter. He was pretty driven to win, given that he mowed down his own troops like that. When Enter was destroyed, did you notice his face appear in the explosion? A creepy and awesome touch. Looking forwards to reading your review
