Supernatural 6.22 – The Man Who Knew Too Much

When It All Comes Crashing Down

Cue Kansas and “Carry On Wayward Son.” This is the season finale.

Sam is running from the cops and stumbles into a closed bar. The bartender asks him to leave, but Sam doesn’t remember anything including who he is. He tells her he woke up to two cops shining a light on him on a park bench and instinctively knocked them out.

She suggests he go to the hospital but he says he doesn’t have time, he has to be somewhere. “Something I got to stop.”
She tells him to relax as he notices an H.P. Lovecraft book on the shelf.

He begins to have flashes of researching Lovecraft last episode and then of a motel. He Googles it and finds it’s three towns over. She offers to drive him there.

Sam somehow knows which room to go to and they get in and find a room full of clippings and maps and clues on the walls. The bartender finds Sam’s various IDs on the table and gets creeped out.

Sam sees a newspaper clipping on the wall reporting that Dr. Vysiak has gone missing. He flashes back to him, Dean, and Bobby finding her in an alley, bleeding to death. She tells them Crowley and Castiel had tortured the info on purgatory out of her. All they need is virgin blood and the blood of a purgatory native (her) and that they’ll be opening the door tomorrow.

She dies before she can tell them where they are.
Castiel pops in and apologizes for letting this happen.

Dean: “You don’t even see it, do you? How totally off the rails you are!”
Castiel : “I don’t care what you think.”

Cas says they should just go home and let him defeat Raphael.
Knowing they won’t budge, he decides to tear down the wall in Sam’s head and promises to “save” him when this is all over.

Sam wakes up from his flashback, but still no memory. He tells the bartender about his flash, he was with two guys, a “male model type” and some old guy named Bobby. He looks at a notebook on the table and finds Bobby Singer and an address. He decides to go there.

He finds keys on the dresser and they head outside and find a pretty Impala. The bartender is unsure of letting him go alone and tells him he might not like what he’ll find.

Suddenly someone is shooting at them and Sam turns to look up at the shooter and sees… SAM!

Turns out this is all in Sam’s head. Dean sits by an unconscious Sam in the panic room.

Dean wants to do something, anything, but Bobby reminds him they have to stop the grand re-opening of purgatory.

“Just try to think of what Sam would want.”

Back in Sam’s head, he and the bartender are on the road. She pleads with him to turn back.

Dean shines a light in Sam’s eyes and in his head, night had turned into day.

It was always day, the bartender says. Sam hears something rustling in the woods and tells her to get back in the car. Instinct tells him to check the trunk and he finds the stash. He takes a shotgun and heads into the woods.

Sam2 is watching from behind a tree and follows Sam1, also with a shotgun.

“My God, am I really that gawky.”

“Howdy.”

Sam1 can’t believe it. Sam2 tells him “we’re inside your grapefruit.”

“Your BFF Cas brought the hell wall tumbling down, and you, pathetic infant that you are, shattered into pieces.”

They’re both pieces. Sam2 is the soulessSam piece and he tells Sam1 that souls are weak, they’re a liability. Sam the whole was so much better when he had no soul. soulessSam shoots at Sam1 in an effort to take over Sam the whole, but Sam1 runs.

He ends up outsmarting soulessSam and shoots him from behind.

“You think I’m bad, wait till you meet the other one.”

soulessSam’s… soul? now enters Sam1 and he heads back to the Impala where he now remembers who the bartender is. She’s from his souless year. She was an innocent girl he had killed during a hunt.

“Didn’t I tell you to turn back, that you wouldn’t like what you found.”

“I’m so sorry,” Sam says.
“Not as sorry as you’re gonna be,” the bartender replies as she dissolves away.

Back outside the mind, Bobby brings Balthazar down and hands them the address of the re-grand opening. But he’s stuck his neck out far enough, he says, and that they’re on their own now.

At the lair, Crowley hands Castiel the blood cocktail they need for the opening. Cas wants to renegotiate their deal. Castiel doesn’t want to hand over all that power to the king of hell.

“You either flee or you die,” Castiel says.
“Boy, you can’t trust anyone these days,” Crowley says and he pops off.

Back in the mind, Sam 1 arrives at Bobby’s which has everything covered in white cloth and filled with white candles.

There’s a man in the shadows. It’s the Sampiece that remembers hell.

Bobby and Dean are packing for their trip to the lair and Dean leaves a note with the address and a gun for Sam in case he wakes up.

“Get your lazy ass out of bed and come meet us. Sammy please.”

In the mind, hellSam tells Sam1 he wishes he hadn’t come. But Sam1 figured he’s been smelling Old Spice and whiskey all this time, he must be at Bobby’s and so if he wants to wake up again, he’d have to get to his body.

Sure, but you have to go through me, hellSam says.
“Humpty Dumpty has to put himself back together again, before you wake up. And I’m the last piece.”

“Which means, I have to know what you know. What happened in the cage.”
“Trust me, you don’t want to know it. You can’t imagine. Stay here. Go find that bartender, go find Jess. I know you, you’re not strong enough.”

“Why is this so important to you?”
” You know me, you know why. I’m not leaving my brother alone out there.”

“Good luck. You’re gonna need it.”

And Sam1 stabs hellSam. Sam is now seemingly complete.

At the love nest, Castiel calls Balthazar and he pops in. Cas figures there’s a traitor who’s tipped Dean off to where they are.

“First Sam and Dean, now this. I’m doing my best, in impossible circumstances,. My friends they abandoned me. Plot against me. It’s difficult to understand.”

Castiel stabs Balthazar.

Dean and Bobby arrive and see the angels guarding the building.
They suddenly hear something. A thumping, drumming. They look up in the sky and see huge black demon clouds heading straight for them and the building. They head back in the Impala which gets turned over like in a tornado.

“Never underestimate the king of hell, dahling.”

Crowley wants to re-renegotiate their terms. He tries to “palm” him, but it doesn’t work. Turns out Crowley has partnered up with Raphael who also flies in.

Crowley says Raphael has promised him protection in exchange for purgatory blood.

“If anybody is going to be the new God, it’s me,” Raphael says.

Crowley gives Castiel two options, like Cas did to him earlier. Cas tosses the bottle of blood to him and flies away.

Dean and Bobby wake up in their upside down Impala as Crowley begins the spell to open Purgatory. They make their way inside, but Crowley takes care of them.

Outside, Sam arrives but his head is exploding with memories of hell.
Inside, Crowley finishes, but nothing happens.

Maybe I said it wrong, Crowley says, but nope, you said it perfectly Castiel chimes as he pops in with the real jar of blood cocktail.

Game’s over, Crowley says and figures Castiel has already finished the ritual since his jar is empty.
Castiel white lights.

“You can’t imagine what it’s like. They’re all inside me, millions upon millions of souls.”
“Sounds sexy. Exit stage, Crowley.”

Raphael is afraid. Cas snaps his fingers and she’s gone.

“So you see, I saved you. You doubted me. Fought against me. But I was right all along.”

Thanks, Dean says, but now it’s time to get the souls back to where they belong. They’re scrambling your brain.

Oh no, I’m not finished yet, says Cas. Now he must “punish them all severely,” Raphael’s followers.

Dean says there’s a lot of bad water under the bridge, but they were once family. He would’ve died for him, he almost did several times.

If that means anything to him, Dean begs, he doesn’t want to lose him too. You don’t need this kind of juice anymore, get rid of it before it kills us all.

“You’re just saying that because I won. You’re afraid. You’re not my family, Dean. I have no family.”

Sam stabs Castiel in the back. But nothing.

Angel blade won’t work anymore, Cas says. “I’m not an angel anymore. I’m your new God. A better one. So you will bow down and profess your love unto me your lord or I shall destroy you.”

Creepy!
