Power Rangers Samurai, Episode 5 – A Fish Out of Water

Jii informs the Rangers while eating breakfast that they may have found the missing swordfish zord. But the Nighlock alarm sounds, so Jayden gives Kevin the special mission to capture the zord.

The other four Rangers head to find the Nighlock as Kevin reaches the ocean. He uses his symbol power to fashion a fishing pole to catch the swordfish, but it isn’t as easy as it seems.

The Rangers meanwhile find out the Nighlock attacks people using his stinky breath which poisons them.

Kevin faints from being out in the sun too long with no success with the swordfish and he wakes up in a fishing tent after a fisherman brings him in.

Jii calls Kevin to tell him the Rangers have been poisoned and that the swordfish’s healing powers will be the only thing that can help them. Kevin heads back to the water to try again.

The alarm sounds and Jii calls Kevin, but Jayden, though weak, gets up and heads out to fight. He tells Kevin to focus on the swordfish while he’ll take care of the Nighlock.

The fisherman encourages Kevin who starts losing hope in catching the swordfish. Jayden in his condition struggles against the Nighlock.

Kevin finally manages to reel in the swordfish and he captures its power into a power disc. He heads back to the city just as Mia, Emily, and Mike, still weak, join Jayden in the fight.

Before the Nighlock just about finishes them off, Kevin arrives with the swordfish disc and uses his bow to let the swordfish's healing powers rain down on the city.

Everyone fully healed, they get to finishing off the Nighlock and officially welcome the swordfish zord into their arsenal.

Kevin tells Jayden he learned that belief in yourself matters more than all the discipline and dedication in the world.

As the Rangers have fun at the beach, in the dark forests, Cole Evans gone rogue a mysterious figure arrives.

Episode Thoughts
A okay episode. I got really excited when we got a completely different opening scene, but I spoke too soon. Another scene-for-scene translation. But the puns, seriously, could kill just about anything.

Sentai or Power Rangers?: Sentai
Corresponding Shinkenger Episode: Act 7 – Marlin Fishing
I think I prefer the Sentai episode more. Samurai’s episode sort of oversimplified Kevin’s “journey” to believing in himself at the ocean. Shinkenger’s fisherman who helped Ryunnosuke seemed a little more wise and mystical which actually added to the episode.

Both episodes were hardly very strong, so Sentai by a hair.
