For Your Emmy Consideration: Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton

It is a crime that Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton haven’t been showered with Emmys for their performance as Eric and Tami Taylor on Friday Night Lights.

More affectionately called Coach and Mrs. Coach by the series’ devoted fans, Chandler and Britton have given some phenomenal performances, week after week, since the show premiered in 2006.

Their chemistry is undeniable, their relationships with each other, their daughter and the small town of Dillion feel so real, it is like you are watching a documentary instead of a scripted drama series.

Both Chandler and Britton are naturals, making it seem like you’d be able to find them as your next door neighbors.

Kyle Chandler has been incredible as Coach. Protecting his wife and two daughters, motivating his team, being there for these young men in their personal lives that are more than just his football players; Chandler is effortless in his performance.

Connie Britton has been equally incredible as Mrs. Coach, as a wife and mother, as school counselor and then principal, standing up for what’s right by going up against some powerful people, unflinching and with confidence.

This season, Coach starts over at a new school, trying to get a new football program up and running. Kyle Chandler makes you feel his struggles, as well as the little victories that come along. You feel his care and concern for a daughter that is hurting and a wife that is going through a firestorm.

Mrs. Coach isn’t having it easy herself. While she tries to comfort her daughter, her job as principal hangs in the balance. Connie Britton, as she has done in the first three seasons, shows Mrs. Coach as a strong woman, someone who doesn’t back down from anyone as long as she knows what she believes is right.

Friday Night Lights prides itself on its realism and sincerity and being down to earth. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are all those and more. You can’t help but feel the emotions they are feeling, the highs, the lows. The power of their performances are just amazing and after an incredible fourth season of the series, it seems to be the perfect time for the Emmys to finally recognize what millions of fans have appreciated for four years.

Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton… More than Emmy worthy.

  1. I agree. Nominations for Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, and Zack Gilford for Season 4 … as well as the show (and writing, casting, directing) … are LONG overdue.

Here’s hoping this is their year! Not only for the nomination but for the deserved win.

  2. I agreeee… I haven’t seen more magic than between those two..

  4. LOL I suppose Kyle and Connie can’t believe it, either.

But I also suppose they’ll get used to it. 🙂
