For Your Emmy Consideration: Susanna Thompson

Continuing the wonderful surprise of Kings Emmy submissions is the wonderful Susanna Thompson in Lead Actress.

Susanna Thompson may have been the only actress suited for the role of Queen Rose Benjamin on Kings.

Her performance was regal, yet menacing. Exuding royalty but also inciting fear. From the beginning, there was also something suspicious going on with the Queen, yet you would brush it off as nothing until she showed what she was really capable of in the last seven episodes of the series.

“The Sabbath Queen,” episode eight of the series, and the final two episodes were Susanna Thompson’s best performances. In “The Sabbath Queen,” we saw just how ruthless and strong Queen Rose was. She knew how to concern herself with more than just place settings and ballets. In the final two episodes, she was able to show an incredible range of emotions from grief and distress to powerful and unflinching.

Seeing the evolution of Queen Rose Benjamin through the 13 hours of Kings was a fascinating and engaging ride and culminated nicely in the final episode when she steps up to the plate when she sees that her husband may not be able to.

Another Emmy worthy and sadly overlooked performance from one of the best television series in recent memory.
