Well this was certainly a better episode than last week right?

Zachariah wants to drown his sorrows of getting sacked with the drink, but his bosses contacts him to tell him they’ve all got another plan to secure Dean’s meat suit.

Meanwhile, Dean prepares himself, packs up his belongings, before surrendering his body to Michael, but Sam’s got something to say about that. With Castiel’s help, they whisk Dean back to Bobby’s where they all try to convince him not to give up.

Bobby takes out a bullet he’s set aside to off himself, just to end his misery. He tells them he looks at it everyday, thinking “This is the day,” yet he doesn’t because he promised them he would never give up.

Castiel gets a headache and flies off to a happening place where it turns out angels have looked for Adam, Sam and Dean’s half brother. Castiel flies him back to Bobby’s where he wakes up and tells them about how the angels have told him all about Sam and Dean and that he, Adam, is the chosen one. He will be Michael’s meat suit.

Castiel suggests the angels are moving on from Dean and on to Adam. Sam’s not buying it. Sounds and smells fishy.

Adam wants to get going as he was promised a reunion with his mother. But Sam tries to persuade him the angels are full of crap, he wants Adam to trust him… because they’re blood.

Poppycock, Adam says. They may be blood, but they aren’t family. His mom is his family, not them. He gives them some time and he and Sam have a talk after dark.

Sam says Papa Winchester just wanted to protect Adam from the life they were so unfortunate to have grown up in. Adam says he’d trade his father-less life for one with him anyday.

They hold Dean in the panic room downstairs so he can’t run to Michael. Sam goes to visit him and we get our usual end of episode emo moment 30 minutes earlier!

Dean is fed up. He hates having people die because of them… Momma Winchester, Papa Winchester, Jess! (Yes Jessica! Not some fling with a werewolf!), Ellen, Jo… he’s tired of it.

Sam says maybe they stick together for once. Dean says he doesn’t believe in Sam. Ouch. That hurts. Dean says he knows Sam will turn somehow and Sam is hurt that Dean would think he’s that weak. After everything they’ve gone through…

Dean wants to be the one to fight Sam when the time comes. Sam leaves.

Adam is asleep, Bobby, Castiel, and Sam circle in silence at their impossible situation.

Castiel goes down to Dean, hears a crash, but it’s really just a trick to get Castiel to be shined away so Dean can escape.

Sam leaves to go find Dean, leaving Bobby to watch Adam. The youngest Winchester has a dream that is visited by Zachariah who persuades him to come along with him.

Dean goes to the local town prophet to call the angels, but Castiel comes instead, lays the beatdown on Dean and takes him home.

Sam and Castiel are back at the house and learn Adam just disappeared. He’s in the fancy room with cheeseburgers and beers that Zachariah held Dean in a while ago. Adam is ready to engulf Michael into his body, but Zachariah tells him it was just a plan to get Dean.

Adam doesn’t appreciate being lied to, but he’s got other things to worry about as Zachariah pulls his blood out of the mouth trick.

Dean wakes up from his Castiel-induced unconsciousness handcuffed to the panic room bed. Sam unlockd the cuffs and tells Dean about going in themselves to save Adam. Bobby and Castiel don’t think that’s a good idea but Sam trusts that Dean won’t give the go-signal to be entered by Michael.

“Sam, why are you doing this?” Dean asks. Sam answers “You’re still my big brother.”

Castiel brings the bros to Van Nuys where the fancy room is. He tells them there’s five angels guarding the room.

Castiel: “I’ll clear them out. You two grab the boy. This is our only chance.”
Dean: “Wait, you’re going to take on five angels? Isn’t that suicide?”
Castiel: “Maybe it is. But then I wouldn’t have to watch you fail. Sorry Dean, I don’t have the same faith in you that Sam does. ”

Castiel pulls out a boxcutter… what’s he going to do with it?
We find out a little later he’s carved an angel banishing seal onto his chest. Clever! They all disappear.

Dean walks in first and enters the room where he finds Adam on the floor. They don’t take two steps before Zachariah appears. Sam comes from behind, but Zach knows and blows Sam into the wall and squeezes Adam’s insides a little more.

This is it… they’ve got Dean. He can’t handle seeing his two brothers suffering, so he agrees to surrender to Michael. Sam looks at him, so sad. But Dean looks at him, smirks, and winks. Hmm?

Zachy calls Michael, but Dean says he has a few conditions. First, protection for his loved ones and second, that Michael disintegrates Zachariah. Zachie thinks he’s got an in with the big stud, but Dean says he is expendable as long as Michael’s got Dean’s “sweet ass.”

Zachariah goes to shake Dean, but that gives him the opportunity to stab him right through the center of his cranium.

Michael’s still coming though. Adam says he can walk, so Dean goes over to help Sam up. The two older bros walk out and the door slams shut behind them, leaving Adam inside. Adam turns in awe, Dean can’t open the door. Adam’s gone. The room is not just an empty shack.

The regular end of episode emo moment is here. Sam and Dean are in some kind of old truck so they can drive themselves back home. Sam asks what changed Dean’s mind.

Dean: “The damndest thing, I mean the world’s ending, the walls are coming down on us. I look over to you and all I could think about is, ‘This stupid son of a bitch brought me here.’ I just didn’t want to let you down.”
Sam: You didn’t. You almost did! But you didn’t.”

Dean: “I owe you an apology. I don’t know if it’s being a big brother or what. To me, you’ve always been this snot-nosed kid that I’ve had to keep on the straight and narrow. I think we both know that that’s not you anymore. Hell, if you’re grown enough to find faith in me, the least I can do is return the favor. So screw destiny right in the face. I say we take the fight to them and do it our way.”
Sam: “Sounds good.”

Episode Thoughts
So definitely light years better than last week’s incredible filler for a filler episode.

This milestone episode served as the event that (I would love to think) solidifies Sam and Dean’s faith and trust in each other. After being weak in the past, doing things recklessly for the other, but not thinking about the other’s feelings (aww), separating, running away from each other… this night for them may just be the slap in their sweet asses that ends all those inklings, desires, temptations to give into the will of others, whether it be studly Michael or old man Lucifer.

The unbreakable bond between the Winchester bros after all they’ve been through, the lives they’ve saved and the lives they wish they did, their family now, including Bobby and Casty… it’s the drive and determination that’ll keep them fighting till the end. There’s no turning back, there’s no giving up now.

They’re set on doing it all on their own, Winchester Bro Power Unite!
On to the final battle!

Of course, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Adam, I can assure you. One thing, his eyes didn’t burn off!

And while they could just as easily fall forward into their destinies as meat suits, this week at least, their emotional brooding ensures they will arrive at the end one way or the other.

I’m betting on them getting there together, hand in hand. But you never know!

Quotables
Haven’t written down awesome Supernatural quotables in a long time, but here's to that caught my ear this week..

Dean: “You know what? Blow me, Cas!”

Dean: “Before Michael gets one piece of this sweet ass, he has to turn you into a piece of charcoal.”

Anyway…
