The Amazing Race 13 Season Wrap-Up

SEASON 13 WRAP-UP

With siblings Nick & Starr a million dollars richer, Dandrew enjoying their new shoes as consolation prizes, Ken & Tina staring over again, and mother and son Toni & Dallas safely back home in the US, the 13th season of The Amazing Race has reached the finish line.

Eight.  Eight months since that… interesting finale to season 12.  And a long eight months at that.

But this season, we’re back to normal and another Amazing Race is on the way in just a couple of weeks.

Now as for the season itself, TAR can never be anything but amazing.  Even at its “worst” and I use that term lightly, TAR still manages to excite and thrill and get you on the edge of your seat week in and week out.

The route this time around wasn’t that exciting, though it was great to go to Kazakhstan and Cambodia for the first time.  And India, as always, produced incredible legs.  CBS revealing the entire race course before the season began was an interesting idea.  It was nice to see where they were going to be headed, but it did take a little away from the guessing where they’ll go next every week.  I guess it was an effort to squash location spoilers?

Of course, knowing where they’re going is just one part of what makes the show so exciting.  The race itself with all the Road Blocks and Detours and how the teams react to everything that is thrown at them.

A highlight of the season, and the entire series really, is meeting Phil’s father in New Zealand.  How awesome was it to see father and son together welcoming teams to the Pit Stop?

The teams this season were okay, there really weren’t teams that stood out.

And in a way, TAR13 was a little bit of a letdown from TAR12, I guess in terms of teams and locations and tasks.  Not saying it was bad, just expecting a little more I guess, but then again, TAR is season to season and there are so many pieces that have to get together to either make things work or have it fall flat.

But anyway, another good season done and another (hopefully even better) is on the way.

Toni & Dallas Toni & Dallas… Well, they raced almost mistake-free until they got to Russia when they made the biggest mistake you could possible ever make on the Race.  The “unprecedented” mistake that cost them the Race and possibly a million bucks.  I really think a spot in the final 3 (at the very least) was theirs to lose.  And they did.  But I guess more importantly, they grew closer and strengthened their relationship and it looks like Dallas found a girl.  Plus, now that the season is over, he can admit “it” really was him. Ken & Tina… Despite slight annoyance with them at the beginning, Ken & Tina no doubt raced well throughout the Race.  That was also in spite of their tense relationship and hopes of getting back together and starting over, which we saw at the finish line… a nice finish for them and nice to see their story come full circle and develop over the course of the Race.  They look to have a great life ahead of them as both seem very committed to working things out.Ken & Tina
Nick & Starr Nick & Starr… Dominant, sure.  And they have a well-deserved win.  A little boring?  Maybe.  A young athletic team beating a middle-aged couple and two self-described frat boys?  Not surprising.  I guess I want to see winners really work for the million and the Spangler siblings really just coasted through the Race.  I like them, but it would’ve been nice to see them fighting for it more (fighting for million I mean, not with each other, though that might’ve been good TV, yeah?).  Terence & Sarah… They had some kind of magic helping them in the Race.  Either that or lots of luck.  When it looked like they were out of it, they magically appear out of nowhere actually passing teams as they climbed their way back up.  It is really amazing how they managed to escape elimination, but not just squeaking by, but being so far behind, but jumping all the way to the front when it counted.  And they managed to grow less and less annoying as the legs went on which is always a good thing for a team. Terence & Sarah
Marisa & Brooke Marisa & Brooke… They seemed like they were slowly getting into a groove that could’ve taken them far, but they just couldn’t keep up.  They did enjoy themselves in the Race and that is always something every time should do, while still be able to keep their eye on the finish line.   Mark & Bill… Read the clue!  A lot of the teams could’ve had that tattooed on each other’s forehead, and Mark & Bill was one of them.  They raced very well in the firs two legs, but just screwed up big time by not reading the clue thoroughly in the 3rd.  They were nice guys and definitely appreciated being on the Race. Mark & Bill
Aja & Ty Aja & Ty… Typical couple drama for a leg or two, but nothing much from them really during the Race.  They had a chance to be a sleeper team in the Race, but wasn’t able to keep up and eventually couldn’t overcome them falling behind.    Anita & Arthur… Now they could’ve been “hippies” I could get behind.  Too bad they were out first, it would’ve been nice to see them go a little further in the Race. Anita & Arthur
Kelly & Christy Kelly & Christy… They rank above Dandrew if only because they had one almost excellent leg when they showed so much potential in if they don’t make stupid mistakes, they could win legs.  But that was short-lived potential as after their one good leg in Cambodia, they went on to make even dumber mistakes and oversights that they just did themselves in.    Mark & Stephanie… The disadvantage of being one of the first out, you fail to make an impression.  From what little we saw of them, they were all right. Anthony & Stephanie
Dandrew Dandrew… What is there to say?  Likeable?  I guess.  Rootable?  Not really.  Being possibly the worst team ever in the final 3, coming in 2nd to last in almost every leg, making some of the worst, smallest mistakes, multiple times, in every leg… I don’t know.
