The Amazing Race has a chance to make Emmy history this year as they vie for their 6th straight Emmy award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. No television program has won six consecutive Emmys in the series category.

Host Phil Keoghan, however, failed to make the cut for the new Reality/Reality-Competition Program Host category. The nominees in that category were Ryan Seacrest (American Idol), Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars), Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal), Heidi Klum (Project: Runway), and Jeff Probst (Survivor). In the series category, The Amazing Race faces the same competitors as last year, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Project: Runway, and Top Chef.

The Amazing Race‘s other nominations were for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming, Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Prorgamming, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

The creative arts Emmy awards will be announced on Saturday, September 13th while the main Emmy telecast will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 21st.

The new season of The Amazing Race premieres the following Sunday, September 28th.
