‘DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ SERIAL KILLINGS A HOAX?

Well, here’s shocking development:

‘DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ SERIAL KILLINGS A HOAX?

The internet is buzzing with rumors of the serial killings on “Days of our Lives” being one big hoax.  The top-rated, Emmy winning NBC Daytime drama embarked on a Serial Killer storyline in August of last year hoping to generate higher ratings and viewer interest.  The firing of several prominent cast members were also made for budget cuts required after the series signed a 5 year contract with NBC.

Online message boards are new rumors which state that most of the fired cast members will be returning to the show, thus having their characters alive and well.  Those same rumors say that details about the returns will be published in the next issue of the magazine “Soap Opera Weekly.”  “Unnamed sources” report that the cast members were asked to the set in Burbank, CA, were given roses and asked back on the show in a very tearful cast reunion.

The rumored returning cast members are James Reynolds (Abe Carver), Matt Ashford (Jack Deveraux), Suzanne Rogers (Maggie Horton), Peggy McCay (Caroline Brady), Josh Taylor (Roman Brady), Bill Hayes (Doug Williams) and Frances Reid (Alice Horton).  John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis) is also expected to return, though his character was not a victim of the serial killer.  Alexis Thorpe (Cassie Brady) has joined the cast of the WB pilot “Dark Shadows” and is not expected to return while Thaao Penghlis “burned bridges” with the show when he prematurely revealed the identity of the serial killer to an Isreali newspaper.

These new rumors prompt new speculation and doubt in the minds of fans and critics alike.  Executive producer Ken Corday, Headwriter James E. Reilly (“Passions”) and Producer Stephen Wyman have all said in interviews that the storyline would last to the end of the year and through 2005.  Corday even hinted at huge twists occuring during May sweeps, on the Wednesday before the annual Wimbledon pre-emptions, and on the Friday before the 2-week Olympic hiatus.

Many questions will for sure be lingering in the minds of fans until NBC or “Days of our Lives” releases a statement concerning the news, which should come as early as Tuesday morning.
