Leg 15.04B – “I’m Tastin’ It!”

This Super Mega Leg continues as teams must drive back to the Port of Olbia where they will catch a car ferry to the city of Genoa arriving at 8:45am.

But first! Teams must check in at the Forced Double U-Turn Vote Board, if activated.

Once in Genoa, teams must drive to the Lighthouse of Genoa to find their next clue. And that clue reveals the Detour: Perfect Pesto or Delectable Focaccia. For both Detours, teams will get to make and enjoy some delicious local delicacies.

Pesto sauce originated in Genoa. In Perfect Pesto, teams will get to make their own pesto sauce and then get 10 local people to taste test their sauce against that of a local chef. If teams can get at least six people to vote for their pesto in a blind taste test over the pro’s pesto, they will be given the next clue.

In Delectable Focaccia, teams must take orders from four people, in Italian, of focaccia featuring different toppings and varieties special to Genoa. They must ten make the focaccia and serve them to the correct customers while reciting all the ingredients in Italian to receive their next clue.

Teams must now find the home of “this Italian explorer who completed four voyages across the Atlantic ocean”. That refers to Christopher Columbus.

And at the Christopher Columbus house is the Forced Double U-Turn Reveal Board.

Teams will then walk to the nearby St. Andrew Cloister Ruins for their next clue.

Teams must now drive to Boccadasse.

Here, teams must help a fisherman find his boat amongst all these boats on the shore and then help him take it out to sea. They must then row to a marked buoy and in the area, fish for their next clue using a net before rowing back to shore.

This is also the location of the Rewind penalty for the team who arrived last at the SuperLeg midpoint. That team must complete the entire task a 2nd time.

Teams must now find Via Garibaldi. Here, teams will dress in modern fashion inspired by the elegant clothes of the Italian monarchy. They will then go door to door to the palatial homes along the street to find one who has their next clue. They will keep their outfits on for the rest of the Leg.

This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg of the Race. If 4 out of 7 teams find the correct home on their 1st or 2nd tries, the U-Turn or Yield will be activated.

Teams must now head to Piazza de Ferrari where they will find the Road Block: Who’s feeling lyrical?

Genoa was a center of Occitanie culture in Italy. For this Road Block, teams will learn and perform a traditional troubadour performance. They must have at least 20 people watch their performance the whole way through while also making sure to correctly perform the routine in order to receive the next clue.

Teams will be given a black and white pattern and they must figure out this refers to Cattedrale di San Lorenzo.

And from here, teams can make their way to the Pit Stop of the Super Mega Leg: Arco della Vittoria or Victory Arch.

The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

This would be a very good Leg on its own without the SuperLeg designation. But it’s even better as being part of a SuperLeg with all the stuff they have to do.

First, the Detour is a standard food Detour using local delicacies. The teams having to get locals’ approval is a nice extra opportunity for teams to interact with locals.

Boccadasse looks like a stunning location. I really, actually, didn’t have a lot of possible ideas for this Leg. But taking the boat out to sea and coming back should be a good, challenging task. Next up was just a filler task.

And finally, the final Road Block with the troubadour performance is a typical TAR task, for sure. Hopefully, by this time, teams will be exhausted and we can see some meltdowns! Lol

Overall, a great Leg.
