Leg 14.08B – “You look like a queen… of the dead.”

TARPHDM14

This true SuperLeg continues as teams leave the Lofotr Viking Museum and drive their 2018 Kia Sportage to the Glapen Lighthouse in the fishing village of Sørvågen in the municipality of Moskenes.

TARPHDM14

Teams will find the next clue which tells them to drive onto a car ferry from Moskenes back to Bodo, departing at 8:30pm and arriving at 11:45pm.

TARPHDM14

Once in Bodo, teams must find a conveniently open travel agent to get them tickets to their next destination… Cairo, Egypt! Teams will first fly from Bodo to Oslo in the morning. From Oslo, teams will continue on one of two flights to Cairo. The first Turkish Airlines flight via Istanbul arrives at 1:45am the next day. The second Lufthansa flight via Frankfurt arrives at 2:15am.

TARPHDM14

Once in Cairo, teams must make their way to the Cairo Tower. But… HOURS OF OPERATION! Teams must sleep on the streets until the tower opens at 9am.

TARPHDM14

In the morning, teams must climb to the top of the tower and search below for their next clue. They must figure out that the next clue is a Race flag atop the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art.

TARPHDM14

Teams must make their way on foot to the Museum to find the next clue. And that clue points teams to the Pharaonic Village.

TARPHDM14

And here at the Pharaonic Village, teams will find the 2nd Detour of this SuperLeg: Fit for a Queen or Everyday Life.

TARPHDM14

In Fit for a Queen</>, teams must convince locals outside the Pharaonic Village to help transport a queen (one team member dressed as one) in a traditional litter. Once they’ve delivered the queen along a marked procession route, they will receive their next clue. Teams must have at least six people helping them at all times.

TARPHDM14

In Everyday Life, teams must perform several everyday chores of Ancient Egypt, including finishing a clay pot, feeding and herding farm animals and fetching water. Once they’ve completed the chores, they will receive their next clue.

TARPHDM14

Teams will now make their way to the iconic Giza Pyramid Complex and search the vast area for the cluebox.

TARPHDM14

Each of the three pyramids contains clue envelopes (in a cluebox, a satchel or placed under water). But only two pyramids will contain their actual next clue. There are also a limited number of real clues in each of the two pyramids. For example, four in one pyramid, two in another. Teams must descend into the pyramids to try their luck.

TARPHDM14

This is also the Trigger Point of this SuperLeg. If any team finds the clue on their first pyramid, the U-Turn or Yield will be activated on the next Leg.

TARPHDM14

That precious clue will reveal a Double Road Block: Guide and Gather. The team member who chooses to Guide must control camels and guide their partner (who will be riding on the camels, blindfolded) who will Gather several large puzzle pieces along a marked path on the Giza Plateau. That same team member will then assemble the puzzle by themselves to build a replica pyramid. Once they’ve completed the pyramid, they’ll receive the next clue.

TARPHDM14

Teams must now head back to the base of the pyramids for their next clue. Here, teams must transport two large, 600-pound stones across 100 yards using a traditional method with round logs. Once they cross the finish line, they will be given the final clue of the Leg.

TARPHDM14

And that clue tells teams to make their way on foot to the Sphinx, the Pit Stop for this SuperLeg of the Race.

The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+ which they can split with their charity.

The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

Wowowo! What an iconic, recycled Leg! Lol

So this Route so far has visited very common TAR countries so of course I wanted to visit an uncommon TAR country. Egypt was the most logistically feasible on this Route so here it is!

Rewind first to the SuperLeg midpoint. The SuperLeg here is also a logistics decision. We need to get the teams back to Bodo and then Oslo in the simplest way possible within the time that we need. So driving to Moskenes and then taking the car ferry (for a little rest for the teams) to Bodo made the most sense. Then the morning flight to Oslo so teams can catch the afternoon flights on to Cairo.

TAR5’s Egypt Legs were very good and made great use of some iconic locations. Since teams will be arriving in the middle of the night, sleeping at the Cairo Tower, like Colin & Christie did in TAR5, should be fine. Getting teams a sort of-early start will get us the time we need for the rest of the Leg.

The Cairo Tower task is typical TAR of course. And getting teams to make their way on foot is a simple task as well since the museum is nearby. We can also make it more difficult to find the clue by not using a regular TAR flag and maybe just red and yellow colors or something or something very small.

The Pharoanic Village Detour is just a way to keep teams in a controlled location. Because I have no idea how good an idea it is for teams to be running around Cairo. It might be completely safe, it might not be ideal. Who knows, I’ve never been. lol Very straightforward tasks. But the queen side of the Detour reminds me of the random TAR China 3 task of getting locals to carry teams on a bed. lol

The 2nd half of the Leg will all take place at the pyramids. And why not? Let’s maximize our time at one of the Wonders of the World. First, we get teams descending into the pyramids which should be a great experience for them. This is a modified task from TAR5, made a little trickier. Actually, I don’t even know if you can go inside all the pyramids. lol

When you have a chance to hang out with camels, take it! So of course, we got to have teams hanging out with camels in some way. Making this a Double Road Block is just a way to make a straightforward task a little more challenging.

And finally, ending the Leg (hopefully in the dark!) with the physical rock pulling tasks should be great! It would be more fun and awesome with more teams, but it’s okay.

So that episode title quote is probably said by Donita Nose to Super Telka which means we assume Tekla & Donita are still in the Race at the point in the Race. lol

Overall, I think this would make for a great TARPH Leg.
