Leg 6 – “Why don’t you want to dance with me?!”

TARPHDM13

We’re at the midpoint of the Race and teams will learn that they’ll be flying to Luxembourg! All teams will be on the same flight from Ilulissat via Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen, arriving in the Luxembourg capital at 10:25am.

TARPHDM13

Once in Luxembourg City, teams must make their way to Fort Thüngen and search the area for their next clue.

TARPHDM13

They will find the clue box hidden in the trench around the fort.

TARPHDM13

Teams will now make their way to the town of Echternach.

TARPHDM13

Here, teams must persuade 25 people to join them in the annual dancing procession of Echternach along a mapped out path. Each team will have a different path, but the same endpoint, according to the map they have chosen. If all 25 people reach the endpoint of the route, teams will be given the next clue.

TARPHDM13

This is also the Trigger Point for this Leg. If at any point one of the 25 people leave in the middle of the procession and teams reach the endpoint with less than 25 dancers, the U-Turn or Yield will be activated on the next Leg.

Teams will head back to Luxembourg City to decide between this Leg’s Detour: Sweet or Savory.

TARPHDM13

In Sweet, teams must head to the Oberweise Patisserie and make different desserts to the satisfaction of the patissier.

TARPHDM13

In Savory, teams must prepare and make traipen, a Luxembourg black pudding and cook it.

For both Detours, teams must make enough servings for them to eat one and to persuade a local to eat the other in order to receive the next clue.

TARPHDM13

Teams must make their way to Place Guillaume II where they will find the Double U-Turn board to check if it has been activated and able to be used.

TARPHDM13

The plaza also has the next clue.

TARPHDM13

That clue tells teams to search the University of Luxembourg campus for the building that houses the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education. It is located at Walferdange Castle. And here, teams will find the Road Block: Who’s confident in getting 100%?

TARPHDM13

Most Luxembourg citizens are trilingual, speaking Luxembourgish, French and German. For this Road Block, teams must learn and memorize certain Race-related phrases and words in each language before taking a test. If they get 100% on the test, they will be rewarded with the next clue.

TARPHDM13

Teams must now find Gelle Fra at the Monument of Remembrance for the next clue.

TARPHDM13

And that clue directs teams to make their way on foot to the Pit Stop, the Gardens by the Adolphe Bridge.

The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.

TARPHDM13

The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

Like I mentioned in an earlier commentary, it was a little difficult finding a way to include all the countries I was 100% set on for this Race. Israel and Greenland were already set, Legs fully planned and ready to go. But with the lack of direct flights to Greenland out of Europe and eventually wherever the Race heads to next (;)), I wasn’t sure where to go.

Luckily, Luxembourg popped up as a nice location and I think this Leg turned out pretty well. It’s also a first-on-TAR country too. (Lots of those on TARPHDME! Hehe!)

As soon as I read about the Echternach procession, I thought of TAR China 3’s Final Leg task in Rio. And I think TARUS has done similar tasks in the past as well. So easy task to have here.

The Detour is very simple and straightforward and could definitely be replaced with much more original and exciting tasks after a real life, in person scouting trip. (Woohoo!)

It’s an okay spot for a U-Turn, if activated, since on paper, we hope the Road Block will be very difficult. We can throw in some tricky stuff as well to make it more challenging for teams.

And finally, it’s a good spot for the Finish Line with those 4K UHD drones in action to capture it all. Yes!

Also… I should’ve done this once this season “premiered,” but I suddenly got the urge to throw something together to counterprogram the Oscars this week. So here’s the full opening credits for this season! lol Only featuring the 10 International All-Stars from the pool (of which only 6 would be chosen) and not the nonexistent six Filipino teams.

If you’re a diehard TAR fan, you’ll notice the credits are TARAU3’s opening credits with just a few tweaks inserting “scenes” from TARPHDM13. I also liked the TARAU3 opening, which was also tweaked for their version.

It took me about half an hour on Sunday afternoon to put it together, but I found myself really giddy when it was done. It’s pretty sloppy, but I thought it turned out great for a rush job and non-video editor like me. Hehe. Exciting!
