Recap: The Amazing Race Canada 4, Episode 7 – "What is wrong with you? You're so stupid."

Recap: The Amazing Race Canada 4, Episode 7 – “I Could Be Prime Minister”

TARC407

Once teams arrive in Canada’s original capital city armed with $580 on their BMO Cash Back MasterCards, they must find Vader’s Maple Syrup stand in Springer Market Square for their next clue.

On the way from Toronto to Kingston, the teams figure out Steph & Kristen had the Express Passes.

Joel & Ashley miss the last train to Kingston for the day and have to wait for the 6:30am train tomorrow. But it doesn’t matter because the syrup stand opens at 9:30am.

Teams must now make their way to Clarence Street where they will find a fleet of all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruzes. Nearby are tablets which they must unlock from their cases using the four digit codes on the plates of each car. When they’ve found the matching encased tablet, they must use the myChevrolet app to unlock the car itself.

The car clue reveals the Detour: On the Field/Higher Education or Offshore/High Seas.
In On the Field/Higher Education, teams must suit up in bubbles against the Queen’s University Women’s soccer champions to complete soccer drills within 25 seconds.
In Offshore/High Seas, teams must head to Kingston Yacht Club where they will learn how to rig a sailboat before setting sail to a buoy with their next clue.

Jillian & Emmett arrive first at the soccer, but Steph & Kristen manage to pass before them on their 5th attempt. They can now make their way to the Kingston Penitentiary where they will find the Double U-Turn board.

Frankie & Amy and Rita & Yvette head to the yacht club while Joel & Ashley get lost heading to the soccer and Julie & Lowell get stuck at the car unlocking.

Jillian & Emmett pass on their 9th attempt. Julie & Lowell arrive just as they leave.

Steph & Kristen arrive at the U-Turn board. Choosing between Jillian & Emmett, and Rita & Yvette (who they are not close with), they U-Turn Jillian & Emmett.

After the U-Turn, teams must head inside the prison and search the cells for the next clue.

Jillian & Emmett arrive at the board and decide to U-Turn Joel & Ashley who have just finished the soccer. Julie & Lowell decide to switch to the yachts because Lowell is having trouble seeing the ball.

Joel & Ashley arrive at the yachts, upset by Jillian & Emmett U-Turning them.

Steph & Kristen finally find the clue and they must now head to Bellevue House where they find the Road Block: Who wants to be first?

For this Road Block, teams will pretend to be Canada’s first Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald at his home and memorize one of his speeches.

Kristen considers using the Express Pass, but instead decides to give the speech a go. She fails her first attempt, but easily gets it on her 2nd try. They head to the Pit Stop at Kingston Mills Lockstation where they officially check in as Team #1 and win a trip to Rome, Italy. Jon grabs their unused Express Pass and tosses it away.

Emmett and Amy get started with the Road Block while at the penitentiary, the cameraman blocks Julie & Lowell’s view of a clue in a cell.

Yvette and Ashley arrive at the Road Block. Ashley is very confident because she’s been an actress most of her life and had a role on the APTN/Showcase drama series Blackstone.

Yvette is the next to garner applause from the Canadian constituents after her 2nd attempt. She and Rita head to the Pit Stop as Team #2.

Amy and Ashley are next to finish. With Emmett finishing after attempt #8.

Joel & Ashley head to the Pit Stop as Team #3 since Frankie & Amy get lost. They end up as Team #3. Jillian & Emmett tell Julie & Lowell what the Road Block is and Lowell decides to do it.

Jillian & Emmett take 4th with Frankie & Amy in 5th. That means Julie & Lowell are last and eliminated.

Episode Thoughts

I think this episode was a little better than the last one. I guess it helped that I watched these episodes back-to-back. But it was a solid Leg overall.

The equalizer was a must after the train ride of course. The unlocking of Chevys seemed alright. But just how long did Julie & Lowell take there to have put them so far behind right at the start?

The Detour choices were fine. The soccer bubbles are probably the closest TAR Canada will ever come to recycling the bubble bulls task from Spain. (Since TAR Canada will probably never even make it to Spain, tbh.) The yacht side of the Detour was simple and straightforward.

I feel like they could’ve come up with a more creative task at the penitentiary. But seriously, what was that part where the cameraman basically blocked Julie & Lowell’s view of the clue? Tsk tsk.

The Road Block was a nice task that fit with the location, of course.

And overall, it was just a solid, if uneventful Leg. Not even the U-Turn really made it all that exciting.

(At the same time, it’s maybe because I already knew Julie & Lowell were eliminated before watching it. lol)

My Subjective Team Rankings

Another week where nothing really made me change my opinion of the teams. Julie & Lowell were such a joy to watch. Lots of fun. And thank you TAR Canada for not harping on Lowell’s blindness like TARUS did with Cancer Dad and the like. Julie & Lowell were interesting and enjoyable without needing to focus on one little aspect of their overall personalities.

Steph & Kristen are definitely racebotting their way to the finals. I’m not rooting for them to win because they’d be boring winners, honestly. But I definitely don’t dislike them either. All the remaining teams are just okay. No extreme feelings one way or the other. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

Episode Quotes

Ashley: “*gasp* Fart faces!”
