The Amazing Race Philippines Celebrity Edition (DryedMangoez Edition 7) – Leg 10 – South Africa

Leg 10 – “Again?! You’re showing how boba I am in language, you know.”

The teams are almost home. But the final five must first fly to Cape Town, South Africa for the 10th Leg of the Race!

Teams will be flying via Johannesburg and arriving in Cape Town before 9am.

At the airport, teams will choose a brand new 2016 Kia Sorento which they will drive this Leg and also contains the next clue and a flower.

Teams must drive themselves 66 kilometers to the Drakenstein Correctional Centre. This is where Nelson Mandela spent the last part of his imprisonment before being released in 1990. Teams will leave the flower at the statue as a tribute before taking their next clue.

That clue directs teams to Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate where they will find the Detour: Rolling Wine or Stack of Crates.

In Rolling Wine, teams must carry a large wine barrel from the fields to a wining station. Using buckets, teams must fill the barrel with rose wine to the brim. Once the barrel is filled and corked, they will be given the next clue.

In Stack of Crates, teams must successfully stack a pyramid of wine crates matching a provided example. If they can place one battle of rose wine in the top crate without the pyramid or the bottle falling over, they will be given the next clue.

Teams must now drive to the Afrikaanse Language Monument (Afrikaanse Taalmonument) where they will find the Road Block: Who’s up for a little conversation? Teams must be aware of their Road Block counts as each team member is only allowed six by the end of Leg 11.

For this Road Block, teams will learn and memorize a dialogue in Afrikaans. They will then have a conversation with a young student. If the team member is able to converse with the student, the language professor will give them the next clue.

Teams will now make their way to the Valley Gun Club. And here teams will find ANOTHER Road Block! Who’s a hotshot? Either team member is allowed to do this Road Block.

For this Road Block, teams must use shotguns to shoot eight moving clay tiles. Once they have, they will get the next clue.

And that clue directs teams to the Pit Stop, the Dutch Reformed Church known as Toringkerk in Paarl.

The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+. Half of that prize will go to their charity of choice.

The last team to check-in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

So South Africa was supposed to be visited in an earlier season, but logistics were a problem. (Really, I couldn’t come up with even one good Leg, even when recycling from other TARs. lol)

And South Africa, though a great country, almost didn’t get included again here. But finally, a solid Leg is here. I hope.

A tribute to Nelson Mandela would be a nice gesture. And visiting Drakenstein fits with this being a more suburban/rural South Africa Leg. This Leg mostly takes place in Paarl.

The wine filling side of the Detour is from TARAu1. I thought it was a pretty good task. But instead of fully recycling that Detour with the target practice, I decided to just find another task at the winery. And the crate stacking should sort of resemble the TAR26 task, but different.

Having a language task at the Afrikaanse Language Monument… duh. (Hehe) It will be great to have teams interacting with local kids. But this will definitely be a tricky task for the teams.

And a 2nd Road Block? Why the hell not? lol It’s basically just the other half of the TARAu1 Detour. But I do believe there’s other things that could be done in the Paarl area. Previous Cape Town Legs had teams driving from Cape Town to Paarl and back. That’s too tedious. Why not keep things a little more compact and hopefully stage tasks that will be enough to challenge and separate teams?

Overall, I like this Leg. It’s alright.
