Leg 6 – “Please let me hit your balls!”

During the last Pit Stop, teams were able to enjoy one of the Maldives’ stunning resorts before setting off on the next Leg which has teams flying to Kolkata, India.

Teams will be provided plane tickets seeing them depart Male at 8:45pm and arriving in Kolkata, via Colombo and Mumbai, at 8:35am.

Once in Kolkata, teams must search the area around the Victoria Memorial for their next clue.

That first clue points teams to the Mother House where teams will pay tribute to the Blessed Mother Theresa before being handed their next clue.

And that clue reveals the Road Block for this Leg of the Race: Who has a flowery personality?

In this Road Block, teams must travel to the Kolkata Flower Market where they will thread two long garlands of alternating red and yellow flowers in the correct pattern based on a sample. When approved by the vendor, teams will then bring their completed garlands as well as 20 already completed garlands to a waiting tuktuk to receive their next clue.

After the Road Block, teams will face the Detour, Hindu Art or Bengali Literature.

In Hindu Art, teams will make their way to Rakhal Paul and Sons statue shop where they must paint and dress a statue of the Hindu god Ganesha. Once it is complete, they will receive the next clue.

In Bengali Literature, teams must pick up 8 bundles of children’s books from Dey’s Publishing House and then ride a rickshaw school bus to Victoria Institution High School and College. There, they must search for a classroom of waiting children where they will deliver the books and receive the next clue.

Teams must now make their way to Eden Gardens where they will be playing one of the most popular sports in India; Cricket.

Each team member must hit one ball bowled by a professional cricket player past a boundary line, either along the ground or through the air. Once complete, the team captain will hand them the next clue.

The final clue of the Leg directs teams to the Indian Museum, the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.

The winner of this Leg wins P100,000 from Shell V-Power Nitro+.

And the last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.

“Director’s” Commentary

I think this is actually just an okay Leg. At the very least, it gets teams interacting with plenty of locals.

Being such a Catholic country, visiting Kolkata on TARPH would most certainly include a tribute to Mother Theresa. Why not, right?

The Road Block with the flowers is definitely a recycled and modified TAR task that’s been done all over the poor Asian cities over the years. But in scouring the internets, I saw these amazing pictures of the Kolkata flower market with those huge garlands of flowers for sale. Plus the market looked crazy as f! So I think this could be very fun for the teams. (“Fun” being the subjective word of course lol) And there will be 8 teams racing on this Leg, so things could get very crazy.

The Detour is a recycled TAR18 task, but hopefully any future TARPH visit would be able to maybe find something more interesting and fresh.

For the last Route Marker of the Leg, recycling TAR20’s cricket task is perfect here, especially with the Eden Gardens stadium located in Kolkata.

And the Pit Stop will have teams running into the Indian Museum which would look stunning in HD.
