Amy is serving Nobu and family at the Tiger Boy restaurant where Daigo’s helping out in the kitchen today. Ian’s watching the new friends from a booth, accompanied by a fawning girl.
Souji walks in and Amy asks if he’ll have his regular cream soda. He answers with a mere “Yes.” The guys note how unfriendly he always appears, but Amy says she’s made it her mission to make Souji smile.
As he takes a seat, his father suddenly appears and ushers him out of the restaurant. But not before he pays for the cream soda Souji ordered.
His father says he doesn’t mind Souji merely slacking off at the restaurant, but lately, his sword has “strayed off its path” and has become more like a “savage beast.” Wherever could he have picked that up?
Suddenly, the Debo Monster Royaroya arrives and captures two martial artists. Daigo, Amy and Nobu arrive, already henshined, to fight off the Zorima and Souji wants to join, but his father stops him and says he’ll show him how to correctly use the sword.
As Souji’s father shows great skill, he runs off to henshin around the corner. Daigo tells Souji’s father to run for safety, no matter how great a swordsman he is as Souji takes on Royaroya himself.
Ian, also already henshined, joins the fun when Dogold arrives and takes on the Kyoryugers himself.
Dogold insults Souji’s sword, angering him as he tells Royaroya to go capture more people.
Down in the Spirit Base, Daigo tells Souji to not get too wild in battle. But Souji tells Daigo that if he wants him to listen to his advice, he must beat him in a duel first. Daigo likes the offer and says if he wins, Kyoryu Green must show himself. If Daigo loses, he’ll call Kyoryu Green “King.”
They start trading slashes of the sword until Daigo takes out his Gaburevolver and shoots at Souji. The others stop him, saying that wasn’t fair, of course you only use your sword. Daigo says why not?
But Souji de-henshins, revealing himself saying it’s true he never said they couldn’t use a gun. “I was too inflexible.”
Dogold returns to the castle to report to Chaos how Royaroya is gathering the anger of boastful fighters he’s captured.
Torin and a still in-suit Ian watch as Nobu struggles on a bike, the DeinoChaser. Torin hands Ian a Zyudenchi for the DeinoChaser and explains that there was a team of Zyudenryu that fought to protect Gabutyra and the others, known as Guardians.
Nobu makes another lame joke, making Deino and Chase leave and Torin chuckle.
Souji returns home and his family dojo where the finds Daigo and Amy asking Souji’s father why he hates him so much.
Souji’s father explains he was so strict with his son in the way of the sword that it caused his mother to leave them for which Souji resents him and the sword for.
Daigo says that’s not true. Souji still holds the sword in his heart. He feels he and Souji are similar and recounts how he too chose to follow in his father’s footsteps. It’ll just take time for Souji to decide as well.
Bull, Souji yells before running off.
He heads to a bamboo forest where he meets his Zyudenryu, Zakutor. Souji says maybe Zakutor made a mistake choosing him since he only used Zakutor to surpass his father.
That’s not true, Amy says as she walks up behind him. Zakutor would never choose such a selfish person. She hands him a DeinoChaser Zyudenchi just as they hear Royaroya attacking. They hurry over to see he’s got Souji’s father and is about to capture him in his shoulder cage. Daigo tells Souji and Amy he’ll leave this to them as he grabs on to Souji’s father, joining him in the cage.
Amy and Souji fight off a couple of Zorima before Souji inserts the Zyudenchi to summon Deino and Chase to form the DeinoChaser.
Souji hops on and speeds off after Royaroya. Daigo cheers him in on from the shoulder cage and Souji realizes he can combine both his and his father’s sword techniques.
That frees Daigo and his father who compliments him. Amy and Nobu join them and they henshin.
They face off against fresh Zorima and both Daigo and Souji hop onto DeinoChasers to finish off Royaroya.
Chaos sends Luckyuro to embiggen the Debo Monster and Daigo, Amy and Nobu hop into Kyoryujin. But Souji tells Amy to save the captured people. Dricera disconnects as Souji calls Zakutor and takes its place to form Kyoryujin Stegotchi Zakutor.
Souji joins the others in the cockpit while Dricera drills its way into where the people are being held. They finish off Royaroya with a Brave Finish.
Daigo, Amy and Nobu watch Souji and his father spar. He compliments his son again and Souji says his new friends have taught him that he needs to learn his father’s sword technique as well to become strong.
Souji’s father says he leaves the dojo in his hands and to learn more new techniques to forge his own sword that he can believe in.
The others are happy for Souji. After another “old man” joke from Nobu, Souji finally smiles and thanks them for their help. Amy is excited Souji has finally smile and she hugs him.
Down in the Spirit Base, Ian comments about the others getting along nicely, but that he’s his own man.
So first of all, pardon anything I might have missed or gotten wrong. It’s been a little hard for me to get through the (Many-Faced High Priest) Chaos that is Kyoryuger. So much stuff to absorb it kinda gets too confusing to follow.
That, and I’m not Japanese.
Lol, anyway. This episode was definitely a much calmer (for Kyoryuger) episode and maybe the most character stuff we’ve gotten so far. Of course, we learned a helluva lot about Souji, but they also established Nobu being “Nossan” with his lame/funny puns, a little more about Daigo and his father and showing how American Amy is. I mean, come on, do you regularly see Japanese or even Asian girls just jump on a guy and hug them like that with no reservations? In other words, Asian girls = appear shy, American girls = loose. (lol, just kidding… maybe.)
The gathering of the Kyoryugers has been okay so far. It definitely works several purposes; getting a couple of episodes out of introducing the Kyoryugers and the different villains and getting an opportunity to feature the toys and the apparently many different combinations the Kyoryujin can have.
With Kamen Rider OOO fresh in my mind having just recently finished it, Daigo definitely reminds me a lot of Eiji with his energy and happy-go-lucky attitude. The traveling world deal too, of course.
And what about those Koichisplosions! That DeinoChaser scene of Daigo and Souji might have been the biggest Koichisplosions/not-Kalishsplosions I’ve seen since Power Rangers. Not even Kamen Rider Fourze had those kinds of huge, unnecessary explosions (though the movie did).
Totally gratuitous and unnecessary, but still hilariously awesome to see.
I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. They can be crazy, but maybe a little toned down that’s it’s more fun than outrageously wacky.
