Recap: Kamen Rider Wizard, Episode 20 – Learning the Truth

Wizard 20

A storm rages Tokyo. Kosuke hasn’t eaten a Phantom in days and decides to stop by a ramen stall while a guy gets blown off his bike. He furiously covers his ramen with mayo and Haruto gets the chills.

Wajima gives Haruto two new rings. First one, Dress Up Please. Haruto spins into a tux and top hat complete with cane. But what would he use it for? He dreams of being dressed up in a fancy manse and playing the piano.

Wizard 20 Wizard 20

No, no, no say Wajima and Koyomi. He uses the next one. Excite Please. His body suddenly explodes out of his clothes, now all buff and muscular. Wajima and Koyomi don’t think that’s right either.

Wizard 20 Wizard 20

Meanwhile, Phoenix walks the rainy streets upset that Wiseman won’t allow him to go after Wizard and to stay out of Medusa’s way. He takes his anger out on a group of drunks who challenge him. But he ends up throwing them around the alley. Rinko hears their screams. She gets knocked over by Phoenix before she runs over to the drunks.

Wizard 20

Next day, a new Phantom scares a young woman, Shiho (who loves pink and pigs apparently.) Haruto and Shunpei arrive and Haruto henshins to take on the Ghouls the Phantom has summoned. The Phantom conducts an orchestra while Shunpei tries to pull Shiho away.

Wizard 20

Haruto and Shunpei take her to a café where she calls husband Hisa then realizes she has a lunch date with friends, ignoring Haruto trying to explain the situation to her. They decide to just go with her while Medusa and Phoenix talk with the Phantom, Beelzebub.

Wizard 20

Beelzebub tells the others he prefers a slow torture to Phoenix’s barbaric ways. Phoenix tries to punch him, but it goes right past him through a portal.

Rinko goes around asking about the man she saw last night. She ends up finding a restaurant owner who says he used to be a regular there, but started acting totally different. Maybe a different guy.

Wizard 20

Haruto and Shunpei follow Shiho to a fancy country club-like place. But the doorman doesn’t allow the boys in because of their inappropriate attire. Aha! Haurto takes out his Dress Up ring and happy dances into the club. No luck for Shunpei.

Shiho walks into a room where a group of loud woman are already enjoying themselves. They completely ignore her even though she had e-mailed them all about getting attacked by monsters. They think to themselves how she’s being a drama queen and making herself too important. Shiho says this is all because she was late. The boys can’t even comprehend.

She goes out to cry, but gets a call and she happily runs off.

Phoenix is still upset, especially now about Beelzebub. Medusa comes and says, how about showing Beelzebub that he can use his brain too and not just his brawn. She’ll let him know when she finds a Gate.

Wizard 20

Haruto and Shunpei have followed Shiho to a dance class. But after they finish the routine, the other women ignore her again. What the hell!? she asks and runs out with Shunpei going after her. Haruto scolds the women, but they suddenly just droop their heads.

Wizard 20 Wizard 20

Rinko’s still on the trail and is at a flower shop. The shopowner has a picture of the man, Fujita Yugo. Yugo isn’t a violent guy though, he was easygoing and a hard worker. He loved flowers and would work more than he got paid for. He also hoped to own his own shop one day.

The owner says he just suddenly stopped coming to work one day. When he says it was just before the eclipse, Rinko realizes what could’ve happened. Phoenix watches from above as he sees Rinko leave the shop.

Shunpei tries to comfort Shiho, saying he and Haruto are there so she isn’t alone. She calms down a bit, but something activates in Shunpei’s eyes and he pushes her to the ground.

Wizard 20

I can’t take it anymore, she screams and runs off. Haruto sees Shunpei’s droopy eyes before he snaps out of it.

Wizard 20

Rinko is by the water and heads to Yugo’s old apartment. She decides against calling Haruto and heads up. She knocks on the door for Yugo, but the door merely opens by itself. She takes her gun out of her purse and walks in, but Phoenix comes from behind.

Wizard 20

Shiho goes to see Hisa, but he knocks her down as well. He drives off without her. Beelzebub laughs at her and taunts her about being annoying, hoping to get her to fall to despair. But Haruto arrives and tells Shiho it was all the Phantom’s doing.

Wizard 20

Haruto henshins. He uses the Excite Ring to buff up and embiggen for a little bit. Kosuke arrives to get his fill of Ghoul meat.

Wizard 20

Haruto moves on to Beelzebub and goes Flame Dragon, but the Phantom uses his little portal trick to avoid the hits, instead redirecting them to Kosuke.

Episode Thoughts
Well that definitely started off in an odd fashion only-Wizard could do.

The Gate of the Week story is alright, but I’m definitely intrigued about Phoenix’s non-Phantom past. I haven’t even thought about digging into Phoenix and Medusa’s backstories, their human pasts. The preview for next episode is very intriguing.

So overall, another mix of goofy and serious for Wizard. I think I’ve gotten used to that combo now (thanks OOO).

  1. This episode didn’t leave me with much except two questions:
    1) Why don’t they use Rinko to sniff out other phantoms by researching people that dissappeared after the Sabbath?
    2) Why do they introduce two rings when they only use one more than once? I mean the muscled physique is goofy but the extra strength surely could be handy.
